Nice review. The GW-M5600BC is currently my favorite G-Shock. It's not the leader in functionality, but I find it extremely comfortable with a nice degree of stealth. Yes, it's not easy to read in dim light, but the backlight compensates. The overall dark appearance doesn't scream "digital" like other G-Shocks. The bracelet is one of the best features. I wish you could buy it separately! My only real complaint about the watch is the anemic alarm. Way too soft. :-(
Think this is a very cool watch. My problems lie with the buttons. Very hard to press, especially the button that controls the light. Useless if you are wearing gloves as well. Unless in the sun, or a very well lit room, you will have to use the light to read the watch. And the light goes out too quickly. I know it eats up batteries, but three a three second burst would be great. Otherwise, I love the shape and look of the watch.
Wish I still had my first Casio Oldie from back in 82-84 Grade school years. We all had a casio with the newest Feature "Countdown Timer" I was a nerd way back when Haha Think I purchased it from Jamesway with money from Cutting lawns. 20 or 30 bucks even then. It may have been 20 or 50meter. Simple watch that worked for years. Own Giez1100, Pathfinders- 1500-1300-PAG40, Mudmans - G9000 -GW9000a and GW1500A - Most are Atomic/Solar's. Casio - It's a Disease.
Hey Doug, always enjoy your reviews. Very good made, interesting and really about the stuff I wanna know about G-Shocks. Really really cool - go on man!
Have a nice day in NY - Greatings from Westgermany near Hannover
My only problem with Casio is the massive borders around the screen. I think thats a little dated now and we dont need it as are all pretty tech minded.
Thanks for the post, it really helped me pick out great watch that is perfect for me. I ordered the GWM5600 because I don't like the reverse display very much. Anyways, I was wondering if the only difference between the two is the display.
again, nice review, Doug.. my problem is, that after I have seen this video, I have ordered wrong model of this watch - to be concrete: model 5600BCJ.. I didn't realise, that this model is different - has no european time-receiver, only japanese and US..
well, what can I do.. so, I have nice watches, but without the best function.. my fault ;))))
I ended up with that model since I did this review. I like the larger size of it. It's quartz, so you have great accuracy, just manually set it from an online Atomic Clock :)
I love Casio's watches for the most part, but honestly, I really don't like the look of the 5600s. I know a lot of people do, but for me it looks too retro, and square. The small white lettering they have on the outside face gives it a non-symetrical feel. I also prefer a round bezel, but the fact Casio stealthed the watch the way they did is really cool. I really like the band of the this watch. I wonder.. what do people see in the styling of this watch if I may ask?
Funny thing is, a lot of collectors like the style for the same reasons you don't. It's classic, and it's the style that put G-shocks on the map and made it as popular as it is.
just replying to BlueBanger, who thinks I have a Tag, Gucci or Rolex. No I don't. I have a PAW1500, and I love it. Funny thing is, lots of people don't like the 1500. I just must be all backward, but that's what makes us unique. If everyone like the same stuff, the world would be kinda boring wouldn't?
Oh and Doug. Now I understand why people like it. There are classics I really like, such as cars. I'm just not into classic watches. I enjoy looking at the tech involed in older watches.
Hi guys, thanks for the kind words, very happy I could help. I think Casio has some great things going with these G-shocks, strong, feature packed, and a style for everyone. Enjoy your G's!!
BTW, I like Atomic for the fact that it keeps all my watches in synch with each other, and it's always accurate. to each their own.
Thank you for the good information on the watch. I was about to drop about $700 dollars on a tacticle watch until I was stopped by a co-worker and advised me not to spend that kind of money on a work watch. I like the smooth flow of information that you give on the video. I have been looking for weeks now for a work watch and your video pretty much has me sold on it. Thanks a "G"
dude! great video!! im 17 yrs old i have a casio g shock aw590 and i wore it to school football match then i got it scratched slightly :( only if the glass was made of saphire crystal, it would be impossible to scratch but seeing as casio only use hardened mineral crystal they can scratch anyway im reaal pissed off now i was gonna keep my watch in gooood condition, now im gonna sell it and get another g shock and promise myself never to wear it to football again :P
Great review! I'll be buying this watch soon (although I will buy the version with the regular display, GW-M5600-1ER) here in Europe. Thanks for posting the review.

Guess watches are pieces of shit. You're paying for durability with the G-Shock line and a feature set.
