  • yeah in the legend The Lady of the Lake gives arthur the sword

  • ya kno.

    SPOILERRR! DONT READ SPOILERRR

i warned u. okay so if uve seen this amazing episode.. at the end when merlin throws the sword into the lake i was kinda dissapointed cause i thought it would like fly into a rock and get stuck ya kno? so then arthur can pull it out? but it didnt. so i just wanted to share my dissapointment :)

but OMG i love BBC Merlin. Its AWESOMMEEEEE!

  • There's a difference from The Sword in the Stone and The Sword of the Lake.

Sword in the stone is named Caliburn, which King Arthur lost in battle. Sword in the lake is named Excalibur.

  • there are alot of different ways the story has been told. The sword in the stone was called Excalibur, the lady of the lake it that. but thanks for ur input?

  • No, Caliburn was a much older name for Excalibur; they are the same sword. Excalibur is a romance rendering of 'Caliburn'. Or Caledfwch, the Welsh name for Arthur's sword.

Excalibur was given to Arthur by the Lady of the Lake in the romance stories of the 12th century, and was not the same sword as the sword in the stone. A never ending confusion, this one.

  • This was my favourite episode of the series so far!

  • can someone tell me the name of the guy who plays arthur? ... i just really need to know the real name of the guy I'm drooling over...

  • Arthur is played by Bradley James. :D

  • Let me say one thing. I've just watched it.This episode is PURE awesomeness!

  • so arthurs a mage?

  • no arthurs a prince.

  • Arhhhhhhhhhhh! this was awesome!

  • Heyyyy is lancelot the guy from heroes? The future telling painter?

  • Yes

  • now that you mention it...sweet

  • yeh it is.

  • Kool thanks for the info!

  • nice dragon althogh next time could u mke a new account called merlin and have every single episode there

  • All the Merlin episodes are on the BBC iPlayer. And its free.

  • Its true that it's on the BBC iplayer but people outside England can't access it!

  • love this show! bit annoyed at the warping of the original (yes lol i know there are many) storyline. but i suppose they had to in order to make it child friendly hehe! :) Arthurs hot in this one tho! mmmmm

  • They SO stole that entrance from Doctor Who! You know, the smashing through the window.

  • Yeeah. D:

  • Haha I so agree! I thought the same!

  • its really weird that different arguments happen in the comments like this! ^_^

  • I'm so excited to see Michelle Ryan again, after the debacle that was the Bionic Woman!!

  • Dang, I'm so obsessed with this show! I live in the United States and I'm already cought up with the latest episode, even though NBC doesn't start presenting it till january of next year.

  • Great show, can't wait for this one!

  • oo also wasnt Excalibur arthurs dads sword ?

  • yeh, so obviously, merlin gives it to arthur to fight mr dead knight person :p

  • No, it wasn't. Excalibur was wielded by Arthur and Arthur alone. It was given to him by the Lady of the Lake and no one else. It is a corruption of the story to put Excalibur into Uther's hand.

  • with the sword by right it is arthurs he jus dusnt no it yet . . if ya get wot i mean i mean there is so many things portrade in the myths n storys its hard 2 beileve . . i always thought arthur pulled the sword frm the stone . thas wot i was led 2 beileve n e wayz . . serise is wicked n luvin it. . the dragon is soooo cool i want 1 :D

  • i luv merlin and i can never wait evry saturday for it!!! does any1 agree????? xx

  • how can the lady fo the lake give her the sword, the lady of the lakes name is Nimue (or how ever you spell it) and if my memory is right, the evil sorceress who poisned merlin is called Nimue. so i wouldn;t mind the idea of the sword coming from the dragon,

  • maybe excalibur is part of the dragon? seeing as dragon hide is practicly invincible.

anyway, i bet in next years series, mordred makes his return to fight arthur, but it comes to a draw and in the third (please let there be a 3rd) they have the fight of Caminnal or whatever the fight was called. that would be great :)

  • Next year? I thought Merlin was only a 13 part series. O_o

  • yes, 13 parts for A series. they do 13 parts all teh ttime, with doctor who, robin hood ect. i hope there will be on next year anyway :)

  • No it's not a 13 part series! the first season has 13 episodes! Here in the United States is the same way! But if it becomes really successful they order more episodes (up to 22 to 24) for the second season! NBC its going to start showing Merlin in January of 2009 here in the U.S.

  • So that means I'm not gonna see the whole conclusion of the story for years as long as it's successful? -_-

  • This looks kind of similar to the episode where Arthur fights the guy with the snakes on his shield, but I'm sure it'll still be entertaining.

  • To me it looks like Merlin just got the sword and the dragon is just enchanting it. Making it magical or something! He could probably just throw it in the lake, since in the opening them at the beginging we see the sword in the lake.

  • I think what it makes the sword magical is that it's forged by a dragon's breath so maybe that way they'll kill the knight. I know it's not the same as getting it from the Lady of the Lake or putting it out of the stone, but it's interesting too

  • Makes sense... if Merlin just waltzes up and gives Arthur a magically enchanted sword, he'll be for the chop. He needs some other means of getting the sword to Arthur.

  • It's kind of bad that Merlin gets exalibur from the dragon. I mean in the older stories he gets it from the lady of the lake.

But still I can't wait till next saturday ^^

  • True but the Lady of the Lake aka Nimue is evil in this one.

  • wasn't she evil anyway? there was another film called Merlin's Apprentice (bit crap!) and the Lady of the Lake was evil in that one too! sooo confusing!?!

  • Why can't it be saturday now!

  • Haha. Doctor who copy.

    But this show is incredible.

  • Just wondering, Is this the end of that series or is there another episode next week?

  • There are 4 more episodes after next weeks :D

13 episodes in the series, we are on episode 9 (:

I was panicking then. . . thought we only had one episode left..!

  • this looks cool!!

  • why the hell does the dragon scream at the end?

tht kind of scared me lol hehe

  • why the hell does the dragon scream at the end?

    because he got rickrolled

  • arhh lol

  • this show is amazing-EVERY epidsode

    bradley james is the best!!!!!

    cant wait!

  • Am I the only one who thinks that 0:07 is really, really similar to a moment from the Doctor Who episode: The Girl In The Fireplace?

I mean it's practically the same! Right down to the camera angle!!

    =P

  • LOL! i thought tht exactly!

  • yeh me too it looks like the exact thing just like edited doesnt it

  • This show is my new obsession, and Bradley James as Arthur is not the only reason! :D

  • LOL.

  • expect a villian to look like mccain and palin

  • Yeh I saw a black girl in this series.

    It's ludicrous.

  • its myth. none of it is real and it doesn't claim to be history. Now if it was doctor who going to the middle ages I would think differently because they want historical authenticity as far as possible. Merlin doesn't.

  • I see...

  • Can't wait -D

Is it me or was it just so obvious that the sword the great dragon gives merlin excalibur before you even find out the name of the ep lol

  • That episode looks great

  • Wait...wasn't Excalibur pulled from a stone. Not made by a dragon and given to Merlin. Also wasn't Mordren (little kid from the last episode) Authers and Morgan le fays kid?

  • Yes but they've twisted this legend a bit. Merlin is also supposedly meant to be about Gaisus' age, or look that age at any rate.

  • Well, not everything in the show itself is directly from the legend, such as Arthur and Gwen's friendship. Who knows? It may have just been a small snippet of the episode. The sword might be from the stone itself. We'll just have to wait and see.

  • Well Excalibur is a different sword than the one from the stone. But it still is wrong, The Lady of the Lake gives it to Arthur.

  • If you watch the episode, it twists into that being the story :)

  • can someone tell me when this is on? is it on every day on sat?

  • yep every week on saturday, varying times, but usually somewhere around 6-7pm

  • Yeah, it's on every Saturday.

  • :D lsel
