It's because goalie's nowadays have a natural tendancy to go into butterfly, as it is their most natural and comfortable position. Yes, they also constantly train taking shots to the blocker and glove while standing up, but you must keep in mind: this is an amateur level, when training, they expect the shots; slap shots go extremely fast, and it is hard to tell exactly where it will go untill the very last second. Therefore, goalies automatically go into the butterfly position.
