@spazzz64 600fps has a lot better resolution and is a little easier to work with. 1200 fps is wide but very short so you miss a lot of the action. It's like looking through a mail slot. It's a good question. I use 1200 once in a while if it comes out good.

@taofledermaus You should check into using a Enthusiast level graphics card, and letting that do the conversion of the movies.

They can De-noise, De-block, De blur, Add anti Aliasing and anisotropic filtering, image smooth, almost lossess compression and well even more features then 215 characters left is going to fill.

. You can even upscale small resolution videos into 1080p so you ought to be able to do 1200fps videos and still have the video card convert it into a quality 1080/720 video.

(enthuisist level) Both have downloadable video software custom made to take advantage of the nuclear chain reaction like capabilities of those graphics cards at processing, compressing, converting and rendering.

@jergilles Casio has several high speed (slo mo) cameras. Fujifilm is also selling a couple of high speed cameras called the H10 adn H11, I believe. You should be able to find something at that price.

@TheChangeInTime Thanks! They are just .177 (BB) sized pellets. I placed the rifle as close to the camera as I could without touching it. I did a lot of experimenting with pellet rifles and airsoft in order to film bigger and faster bullets when I got to the gun range.

@dieharddirtbikerida Actually we are both wrong. I originally estimated this air rifle to shoot around 700fps if I remember right. It shoots pretty close to 600 fps, so converted to MPH that is only 409mph.  By the time I figured out how fast the rifle shoots, the video had long been posted. I used a FPS to MPH calculator by the way.

Feet per second is a good unit of measurement if you are just comparing different guns' bullet speeds, but MPH is good for comparing a speed to anything else, like a car, airplane, fast ball, etc. Non-gun viewers have a better understanding of the speed of the object I am filming.

We can give that a try. Sometimes it's real hard to get everything in focus. In other words, the camera might be focused 20 feet away on the apple, so anything closer or further than 20 feet may not focus real well.

wow good job. I just got a Sanyo FH1 that shoots at 600fps then I cut the playback speed in half so it's shooting practically at 1200 fps. I hopw to do some stuff just like this!!! Very Cool!!

600fps is still plenty fast and will capture an actual bullet in flight. I often play around with the speeds in the editor, but it seems I speed things up more than slow them down. Even when you slow down 600 fps in a good editor, it still looks pretty impressive and smooth.

No, miles per hour. Feet per second is an ok unit of measurement but only if you are comparing it to the FEW other things that use FPS to measure speed. 475mph = ~696 feet per second. (which isn't real impressive as far as pellet rifles go) I wanted to compare the speed to a car, a pitcher's fastball, a dragster, a tornado, and other things that are measured in MPH. Sorry for the confusion.

I meant 475 miles per hour. I used a MPH scale because people can relate to that measurement better than ft/sec. and appreciate the speed since they can compare it to a car, an airplane, a pitcher's fastball, etc. 475 MPH= 700 fps.

Very nice video. Get some PolyMag pellets. They really expand and are fun to shoot things andmake large exit holes and flying debris from softer targets like fruit. I have rifles that shoot 550 to 600 mph and can see a flash of the pellet at 30 meters in the morning sunlight. The side lighting somehow casts a shadow making the pellet more visible to the naked eye. i want to shoot some high speed video in the morning to see if i can see my pellets in flight.

My Xisco Bam B-21 .177 cal shoots Gamo PBA at 1080 fps breaking the sound barrier but they group poorly thus poor accuracy. A traditional lead Crosman Premier .177 7.6 grain shoots about 950-980 fps and are quite accurate. These all have been tested with my chronograph shooting strings of 10 shots to confirm the speed. The awesome thing the Xisco Bam series rifles are built like tanks last forever and most are about $120-$180 on line at several dealers. They can be tuned into nice guns.

(475 miles over 1 hour) is the speed. multiply 475 by 5280 (feet) and you get feet per hour. divide it by 60 (minutes) to get feet per minute, and then divide it by 60 (seconds) to get feet per second which equals approx. 700 feet per second.

I know it sounds incredible, but it's true. Google "feet per second to miles per hour" and use the coverter. A pellet going 700 feet per second IS going 477 mph. There are much better pellet guns that will go over 1000 feet per second! I was surprised at the speed myself.
