  • I never tried this on my phone. Pretty Awesome!

  • ooooh shit i never seen shit like dis before i need to upgrade from my 6230i =p jokes cool :)

  • Ide probly walk of my balcony exploring

  • @Casman011 LOL!

  • i have tattoo and I am absolutely amazed by it... and the best part is that I've paid only 80 € for it :D

  • @FredWeasley88

    Why only 80 € ????

  • @FredWeasley88 where did you buy it from?

  • they should let you take pictures from google maps on compass then you can tell everyone you went to china for the weekend a great thing to get out of going to work =~D

  • Wow...this phone is smaller than I thought...how big is the screen again?

  • @ferrariguy25 3.2? I'm not sure but... a quick google search will probably give you a bit more certain answer...

  • .2-inch 320 x 480 HVGA resolution, 262K-color TFT LCD touch-sensitive screen with LED backlight

  • @ferrariguy25

    3.2 inch

  • Wow... a TEN MINUTE VIDEO and it took you FIVE MINUTES to get to the subject matter.

Please consider finding a different hobby.

  • So does it rotate the map when you're navigating or not? I know it does in Street View, but in normal map mode?

  • Does it actually sense which direction you are facing? Like if your phone is pointing north will it look northwards on Google Maps?

  • @PiPerson95 Only on third party applications, like RMaps (which has some maps better than G. of L.). Actually, almost all use of the compass comes from 3d party. Probably the best are GPS status and Rmaps. Both require some effort. If you're too lazy, don't bother. Otherwise, you won't be disappointid. Some more specific tools like ATM finders are great as well (depends on your region).

  • So there is a 3rd-party app that can act like the iPhone's compass and map?

  • I don't know what the iPhone or it's applications can do. For the HTC Hero, I know that most (in fact almost all) of what the compass can do, is from 3rd party apps. For you to decide if that's good for HTC itself or not. As for me, I'm just being practical.

  • HTC has confirmed that Android OS 2.0 (Eclair) is coming to HTC HERO. Probably before 2010 =)

  • will the update be free?

  • @PiPerson95 OFCOURSE IT WILL BE FREE! It's open source!

  • Just making sure Sprint won't charge for it.... but thx anyway

  • ordered one today XD

  • @StrongOneX got mine ordered yestarday, looks like a great smart phone :)

  • I've had mine for 4 days now and im very impressed.. BUT i've been disapointed too =(

You can't transfer files with bluetooth.

Google map isn't as cool as the Iphone GPS.

Sometimes the phone crash and you have to restart it, wich takes ages =(

The upload rate is 2mb, Download rate is 7mb.

YOU HAVE TO DOWNLOAD THE TASKILL APP... MAKES THE PHONE 300% FASTER BECAUSE IT "KILLS" APPS THAT ARE NOT IN USE.

  • @StrongOneX i agree with bluetooth i found that a few days ago when i tryed to send my old photos to this one.

i had to download the app killer aswell but its never gone slow for me after i updated it and changed the layout abit.

The google maps however , well im just waiting on the 2.0 update se i can run the new google nav when it comes out. but i did find the nearest pizza hut,pc world :)

games however dont seem to have any good 3d ones yet, otherwise its the best phone i ever had.

  • You can't do bluetooth file transfer yet... but i think android 2.0 might be able to do that

  • i called HTC costumer service and they said that android is never going to be able to bluetooth file transfer ..

  • @StrongOneX

Your wrong Android 2.1 will support Bluetooth File Transfer, trust me

HTC Desire will get Android 2.1 out the box :)

  • Guys, someone can tell me why the googlemaps app does not have the same function as the iphone the one that uses the compass to rotate the map in the direction u r facing at? i had to download an extra app from the market for that, but it is not as good as google map.

  • its made for Android OS, not apple..

  • Getting it at Cellular South too

  • Didn't realise it has a compass!

    Great vids,

    Success to all

    John Chablo

  • Is it using the g-sensors or does it have a real magnetic compass?

  • It does have a Digital Compass, although that's probably using the G-sensor - as compasses can't 'do' up and down

  • Well it could use a magnetic compass to take out the bearing and use the g-sensors for the rest.

I read somewhere that the HTC Dream (a.k.a. T-Mobile G1) has a magnetic compass and I'm trying to verify if that's correct and weather other Android devices has that as well.

  • G-sensor..

  • I actually own an HTC Hero now and I do think it has a magnetic compass. If I download a compass software it's capable of pointing out north with pretty good accuracy (provided you're not near an "artificial" magnetic field). A G-sensor alone isn't capable of that and the GPS can only give you your heading while moving.

  • @anarkistraeven Of course it has. Wanna know more? Visit Eclipsim's site (d o t c o m), and download his appplication (probably by far the best compass on the Hero). Also, look on YouTube for "Best Compass Calibration Method", cos the built-in compass has its flaws.

  • You always have great videos thanks!!!!!!!!

  • daamn nice :D cant wait to get mine :P just orderd it :D

  • where'd you order it?

  • From clip's 5:45 mark, excellent Google Maps Compass mode demo

Synchronizing Public Transit Authority BUS STOP data WILL enable hyper modern function:

    1) Smartphone point/orientation sensitive 'simple text' bus stop schedule:

Texting "51860" (bus stop number) to "33333" gets reply:

    51860 [135] 03:49p 03:59p 04:09p [145] 03:57p 04:12p [144] 04:10p [...]

    2) Time+Data+Scheduler --> alarm prompt

This HTC Hero should compete with taxis and Mom's "Skipper! Your Bus will pass soon!".

  • awesomee.. still waiting till october 11 which i hear it is coming to the u.s. carrier sprint!!! finally a fone i like from sprint. I was feeling a little left out from all my friends that had kool new fones from att!! haha! cant wait and thanks for the video ;)

  • That is simply awesome! I liked this phone before - I LOVE it now!

  • Wow the street view demo part is truly amazing! (and your kitchen looks very good too XD)

  • its like the Denzel Washington movie "Deja Vue"

  • yeaaaa.... thats exactly what this is like. Except it isn't as indepth

  • Nice one, thanks for that. BUT....

Is there a stand-alone compass application, which gives some sort of graphical representation of a compass face that can be used to determine magnetic heading? If not in the default applications then from the Android store?

    Cheers.

  • Yeah, there seem to be plenty of compass apps in the Android store.

  • I would assume so.

  • Default apps, almost zero (should make HTC think) In the latter there are several. IMHO the best (by far!) is GPS status, which you should give a little effort to learn how valuable it is. Please visit the author's site to learn more about GPS and digital compasses. Takes some effort, but you won't be disappointed. RMaps is also great: has some very good maps, that can turn to the compass when the option is turned on.

  • Wonderful demonstration! Thank you very much! Btw. Very nice looking kitchen ;-)

  • Wow, I didn't know such things where even possible!

  • Thanks for that vid!

  • oops sorry meant answering not asking

  • YAY! lol i asked this question lol thanks for asking

  • i was thinking of getting a Nokia N97 next month as I'm due an

for an upgrade. reckon I'll be getting the Hero after seeing these videos :o)

  • Could you take this to a street that's been photographed and demonstrate there?

  • Mate Ive lost my password to your site.. AND my username, which means i cant log in or get a new password sent to my email?? Can you help?

  • Great vids!

  • Wow, thats a great feature. I really like this phone

  • hello!!!!!

can you pleaseeeee tell us if the Hero can support the Apple headphones with the remote controlls?

    ehehehe....

  • why should it? you can connect thousands of better stereo BT headphone than apple ones... :)

  • Cool!! Thanks a lot for showing this feature :-D

Can't wait to get this phone in my hands

  • Awesome demonstration. I'm surprised at how smooth google street view works.

    keep up the great work!

  • Apparently there's an app called BlueX which lets you send files, but you have to be rooted to receive via BT. Nice surprise video! Very cool compass function!
