There is a huge difference between what I have on my PC and what serves my content. The video implies that millions of people use Linux, that's not exactly true is it? I get content from Windows Servers as well, it does not mean I trust Windows. Face it, millions is overdoing it.

No but trust is accurate. The only websites you'd really care about are money related websites (banks, credit cards, etc), and for security reasons they probably all run on Linux. That'd be trust.

But that's the whole point! The ad says *millions* of people, if it's not true it shouldn't be used in the ad. My bank uses Windows Servers for their online services, I don't trust them but it works. Their real systems are all solid UNIX servers.

I don't fear anything. I'm not a big Linux fan, but I do love my UNIX flavors (OS X and Solaris). Windows is just for games. However I think this video is lying when it claims millions of people use Linux (on their home PCs). You are not there yet.

Ubuntu had over 8million users when they relesaed ubuntu 8.10 wich is almost a year from now and they have probably continued growing after that

Shuttleworth claimed 8-12m in 2007 as well. And how many of those installations are actually in use? Or get wiped? I have installed Ubuntu on several machines, real and virtual, and removed it again. Even the copies I do have are only opened now and again. Real users or not?

well according to novell its over 30million that uses linux everyday.. and that maybe true.. and linux is quite big in Europe (among those advanced pc users that all europeans are:) But if you think about your question you can also say that numbers of windows that being used is wrong because every computer that you buy comes with windows (almost) and then if you format your computer and install linux on it MS still count it as a windows computer

Novell has no way of knowing that, and that claim is probably not true. Linux is big in *parts* of Europe, especially Eastern Europe. Jeg er norsk, borje.

Did you know that netbooks with Linux actually get returned a whole lot more than those with Windows? So while Dell & Co might sell them, they're not always doing well.

You realize that PCs with Linux or no OS also quite frequently end using pirated copies of Windows? It goes both ways.

anyway linux has over 1million desktopusers but no one knows for sure how many there are

Actually, the Ubuntu users are being counted by a special program, that sends data about updates user had made. So, I am in serious doubt that most of these 8-12 millions are just 'one-day users'.

I know Ubuntu keeps track of it's user base, however that does not mean the numbers are correct. Would you count me as an Ubuntu user when I have it installed in VMWare? I never use it except for the rare test, I use other UNIX OS' for my work. Question the numbers.
