I switch back and forth between the two of which is my favorite. Both spectacular though! I don't really see how people are saying that Myles sounds EXACTLY like Jeff Buckley. Their styles and choice of notes in composition are similar, which Myles proudly claims Jeff Buckley as a big influence, so that makes sense. However, their timbrés are not the most similar. They are similar, when you compare them to Chris's, but in the grand scheme of things not so much...
I have to say it - Temple of the dog is the best album ever for me.So Chris, even he stepped away from the Best Way, is the better composer. And has stronger voice. But Myles is better technically. So, I prefer... Ed Vedder:)
@fabiioman only problem with that is that not as many of the songs in it had the uber high notes like soundgarden and chrises solo work has in it but true shadow on the sun and probably out of exile would be good examples of awesomenes s
I don't see how people say Myles Kennedy has a bigger range... Chris Cornell is a Baritone and yet hits the same high notes as Myles (a tenor)... because of this Cornell has A LOT more power than Kennedy. Kennedy is a smooth singer, but Cornell has that almost god-like power, originality, and range to his voice... He is almost unbeatable...
At times I prefer Myles voice because it's so smooth and easy to listen to, but technically speaking, when I hear Chris' voice followed by Myle's voice in this video, it's almost like a joke. Myles has a ridiculously good voice, and he can hit really high notes, but Cornell is literally unbeatable when it comes to sheer power, especially with high notes. And also, I would like to clarify that Chris actually has a significantly larger range than Myles, and can hit equally high notes.
everyone gives myles credit for vocal range, but i'd like to point out that chris can and has hit the notes necersary to sing songs such as starlight. id say that shailanchal, whoever they are, hit the nail on the head more or less. still 2 of the best singers around.
I bet that chris cornell couldn't have sang "Starlight if he had gone with slash on tour intead of myles. Myles isn't that famous than Cornell but is better
@Kitspher hell yeeeah! :D you are right! I love them both, but Myles is better than Chris. Myles is God! but I'm Cornell's die hard fan too :D He is a legend :)
definitely myles. well his voice seem to be more powerful and a lot more varied. he goes from really low notes,( even whispering), to really high. chris seems to do the same thing in almost all his songs
I agree tht both singers are very very good, but i have to go with Cornell always loved him and sometimes the scratches help. For those tht think tht Chris lost it. Check again. Soundgarden is touring right now nad even though he isnt "as" good. He still hs the power behind him on this tour and he sounds amazing
For me is simpler; this video should prove CC has (had?) much better sing skills. The video is the isolated voice track of Jesus Christ Pose. Search for "Soundgarden - Jesus Christ Pose (Chris Cornell 'Acapella / Vocal Track')" on Youtube (and grab your balls, because they will explode)
Both singers are amazing.Myles has better tone and he doesn't screech at times like Chris. Also Myles has more musical training and has just a more rounded music education.Chris of course has more fame and is more of a household name.
chris and myles are both the most awesome singers out there. but chris is starting to lose his voice, myles' voice in the other hand is too clean, but he's just god-like live and onn album.
@CuriosityRoads come on man....led zeppelin invited him to play with them, out of all the singers slash invited to perform on his new album he picked myles to do two songs and TOUR THE ALBUM. There is simply no way you can't appreciate his sound...and if anyone has the voice to do gnr songs justice its Myles. (slash seems to think so anyways and that should be all that matters)
although myles might not be more flattering in some of the recorded tracks, he is still amazing live. and chris cornell is pretty damn good, dont get me wrong, but myles is so consistent and for me that is the determining factor when deciding which vocalist is the best. if chris cornell were to be able to sing that good live, he'd be the best, but he never could and myles can. so for me its a no brainer. myles all the way!
I suggest u listen to "Beyond the Wheel"(unbelievable performance) and "Ticket to Ride"(Troubador). here on youtube..Cornell is not the most consistent live singer, but his best live moments are EVEN BETTER than his studio performances....please listen to those 2 tracks and get back to me,...
I like soundgarden but I just love myles kennedy's voice.. I was actually driving w/my hubby the other day & I'll admit I was in a funk Alter Bridge "Isolation" came on & it made me smile... I think I might be a little biast cuz Myles is from my hometown & went to high school with my uncle too lol
well, Cornell has a naturally low voice as someone else stated, so he's actually much, much more versatile than Myles. Myle's high notes are clearer, but Cornell has more power and his high notes just have a unique sound that makes Cornell Cornell.
would like to mention that chris is VERY original...while myles singing is not original...it sounds exactly like JEFF BUCKLEY...so takes the credit from myles...my analysis
would like to mention that chris is VERY original...while myles singing is not original...it sounds exactly like JEFF BUCKLEY...so takes the credit from myles...my analysis
HOW CAN YOU EVEN THINK ABOUT COMPARING MYLES KENNEDY, WITH ALL THE RESPECT...TO...FUCKING CHRIS CORNELL! CHRIS ROCKED THE WHOLE WORLD WHILE KENNEDY WAS PLAYING IN LEGO AND I'M SURE HE WOULD SAY THE SAME THING
EVEN IF UR GONNA TALK ABOUT TALENT/SKILLS CHRIS TAKES IT SO BAD.... SO FUCKING BAD
ASK ANYONE WHO KNOW A SHIT IN MUSIC AND HE WILL TELL YOU WHAT I SAID. CHRIS CORNELL IS A LIVE LEGEND AND WITHOUT A DOUBT ONE OF THE GREAT VOCALISTS EVER IF NOT THE BEST.
@shailanchal i i agree to everything but the range at this comparison.cornell is a baritone who is,due to his technique, able to sing in the tenor range.myles is a standard tenor,so cornell has more range(full voice). having a huge range though does not make you a great singer.not the case in those two, just sayin :P
I seen Cornell live twice and he couldn't hit any high notes. And went off key quite a few times. His voice is shot. But Myles... the mans voice is god.
I vote for Chris. At his peak he was unbeatable (check SG Louder than live tour ). Yes it is true, his voice was shot, but now he is back 90%. And i like his bands more (TOTD and SG are the best), his music just sounds more raw, and rock should be like that. No disrespect to Myles though.
Both fantastic singers, Chris' voice is more forced it seems, Myles' range is staggering. Tough to say, matter of preference but the latest alter bridge album is phenomenal, leaning towards Myles atm.
In Chris' defense, He just has something about his voice, the aggression, that makes me love it. Listen to Slaves & Bulldozers, the ENTIRE song, and you'll see what I mean. And if you don't think he can "sing" in high notes, and that he only "screams" in high notesthen you're wrong. Listen to Like Suicide and you'll learn not only can he hit those extremely high notes, but he can also hit VERY low ones, like in Beyond the Wheel. And yes, he can still song. Look at his cover of Whole Lotta Love.
Everytime I play this video I skip on the Cornell part hehe.. call it biased but when I played the video the first time I just don't appreciate that much the Cornell part.. Sorry ^_^
i love both though i think Myles is many times better then Chris. Just happened that Chris Cornell is a lot famous than Myles "at the moment." But Myles has long way to go in the Rock scene. Alter Bridge's finally getting the attention that they deserve.
Chris Cornell has a more original sound both in tone and pursuit. When you hear his voice you know that's Chris Cornell. Myles has crazy range and soulful control but sounds like any other singer with that 'calibur' of talent.
Both singers are amazing. Yes. Is one better than the other, no. Personal opinion says yes. Which everyone is entitled too. But to compare these two like what is happening here is just silly.
Although I think it's amazing how Myles can make GNR, VR & Slash's Snakepit songs work to his liking live. Which is something not a lot of singers can do and still sound amazing heh.
Chris Cornell is the fucking man! Myles Kennedy can nail some crazy notes but Chris is a much better songwriter and front man. Chris Cornell all the way!
Range wise, those high notes are more natural to Myles's range. Chris is more versatile as far as styles go. If I had to choose one... I would be somewhat unfaithful to both always worshiping the other. They are both two equal God's on top of my musical shrine.
What you have to realize, is that Chris Cornell was a major writing force behind Soundgarden. I don't care if like Soundgarden or not, you can't deny that they were revolutionary. I'm gonna have to go with Cornell.
The only thing they have in common is range, Cornell has the power, the tone, the versatility (listen to slaves and bulldozers then ave maria), and unlike Kennedy he doesn't always sound like he is singing through his teeth.
Okay, obviously all Alter Bridge fans have commented here. All 500 of them! You must be deaf to think Myles Kennedy has a better vocie than Chris Cornell!!!
It seems like Miles Kennedy has more control over his voice but Chris Cornell has a better voice. I also think Cornell's voice is naturally much deeper than Miles'.
@lilORANG but he screams soooo well. they're my favorite two singers ever so it doesn't matter....and by the way, cornell doesn't suck now. type in "Soundgarden Beyond the Wheel" and find the video from 2010
@thebatman93 Aight, maybe "sucks" is a little too harsh. He's still better than most, but his voice just doesn't sound the same anymore. I don't know what it is....
jeff buckley no contest. chris and myles are great obviously, and probably even better rock singers than jeff... but jeff was so versatile... rock, folk, blues, jazz, opera, pakistani music, punk and probably way more than i even know. more than that he was an artist. chris and myles are great, powerful singers, but they don't even come close in terms of the whole package and what it truly means to be a vocalist. sorry to turn this into a triangle lol.
@superstomp2 maybe its just a matter of taste, but chris cornell's last two albums were weak imo. don't get me wrong, i LOVE temple of the dog, soundgarden, audioslave and his album euphoria morning, they display his obvious strengths as a rock vocalist. the power, the screams, the intensity, attitude, control and even songwriting. but jeff had something that neither chris or myles can touch.. and i bet they would both agree themselves. it was his artistic integrity, spontaneity and true beauty.
If you compare just by straight singing ability, Myles has a clearer tone and I guess its easier on the ear BUT!, they're both rock singers and if you want to go by who you think has the better pipes for what they do *HANDS DOWN Cornell* His voice forged a new age of rock, and has millions and millions of followers, that speaks for itself. THUMBS UP FOR CORNELL
@xxvanillagxx thats what ive been saying i like myles kennedy and listen to both alter bridge and the mayfield four but when it comes to rock vocals he just isnt chris cornell
I'm just discovering Myles, and he is not disappointing me in the slightest. He's incredible...kind of like...if you took Chris Cornell and Jeff Buckley and stuck them together (I can't think of a much better combination than that)
@XFry333X go listen to "in loving memory live in amsterdam" "broken wings live in amsterdam" and "watch over you live in amsterdam" ..watch those fully, then HONESTLY tell me your opinion...
Cornell's one of Kennedy's biggest influences... Hadn't Cornell existed, there'd be no Myles Kennedy... Both are f*kin amazin and the comparison is childish...
Both are absolutely great lead singers, but Myles is way better in my opinion. He sings the high notes much more unforced. He sounds absolutely great at his head voice.
Thanks for the great video. Comparing these voices was pure ear candy, but why do I have to choose? Both are incredible! They are way better than anything playing on the radio these days. I do think Cornell has the sexiest armpits though!!!! Hahahaha!
Two of my favourite, if not favourite, vocalists. I couldn't pick between them. Both absolutely incredible vocalists and musicians. To have the opportunity to have a face to face orgasm with either of them would be a dream come true. Legends.
@9TheManiac If you seriously had not heard of Cornell before, you are in for a treat. Go listen to Temple of the Dog and Soundgarden *now*. I somehow envy you.
honestly i think there is no comparing there both amazing lol its like comparing the rev and mike portnoy on drums both amazing, both of these singers are absolutly amazing

Definately Myles Kennedy. I mean... Just listen to him performing Summergirl as a Mayfield Four member or Save Me in Alter Bridge. Chris can't do that.
@Fonsveritas chris cornell is naturally a baritone singer and myles kennedy is naturally a high tenor, they are both equal in their own range in my opinion
@dukeljk oh' no doubt Chris has got one of the most impressive vocal ranges in all of rock history and in my opinion he beats myles overall, but myles can sustain notes like E5 or higher for more than 20 seconds whereas chris cornells longest vocal streak was also over 20 seconds on the demo version of flutter girl he was hitting relatively low notes (notes that myles can't hit)
Cornell is obviously way better, ppl just defend myles now cause he sung with slash, he clearly isn't as good at singing. Well obviously I mean when cornell was in his prime, I just saw myles Kennedy and hes waaay better now adays, but back in the days of soundgarden cornell fucking kills it. Pretty sure he had one of the widest ranges in rock.
Chris is the best. I don't know Myles Kennedy, but every time I listen to him on this video I see Jeff Buckley.

Chris Cornell is the fucking man! Myles Kennedy can nail some crazy notes but Chris is a much better songwriter and front man. Chris Cornell all the way!
wilshirejkk 1 year ago 7
Range wise, those high notes are more natural to Myles's range. Chris is more versatile as far as styles go. If I had to choose one... I would be somewhat unfaithful to both always worshiping the other. They are both two equal God's on top of my musical shrine.
stirvana 1 year ago
Those guys are both good. But when it comes to strong voice(and very beautiful if he wants to), I'll go with Brent Smith :)

Kennedy is muchh better :D Alter bridge forever :D
023Thunder97 1 year ago
What you have to realize, is that Chris Cornell was a major writing force behind Soundgarden. I don't care if like Soundgarden or not, you can't deny that they were revolutionary. I'm gonna have to go with Cornell.
DethByMyIbanezAxe 1 year ago
Cornell >>>>>>>> Kennedy
The only thing they have in common is range, Cornell has the power, the tone, the versatility (listen to slaves and bulldozers then ave maria), and unlike Kennedy he doesn't always sound like he is singing through his teeth.
LieKiller 1 year ago
Okay, obviously all Alter Bridge fans have commented here. All 500 of them! You must be deaf to think Myles Kennedy has a better vocie than Chris Cornell!!!
Audioslave3 1 year ago
@Audioslave3 We're also fans of The Mayfield Four & Slash's solo band. Not just Alter Bridge D: lol.

Myles Kennedy>Chris Cornell
Kiing214 1 year ago
It seems like Miles Kennedy has more control over his voice but Chris Cornell has a better voice. I also think Cornell's voice is naturally much deeper than Miles'.
Katharsis2006 1 year ago
Theyre both fantastic singers but COME ON! Soundgarden kicks the shit out of alter bridge to hell and back.
PGROSYE02 1 year ago
Soundgarden was a heavy band any band that miles has been is pop.

@dukeljk you sure? i believe that alter bridge isn't pop retard

MYLES IS THE BEST!!!!!
SpadadiRuna 1 year ago 27
i dont mind chris cornells singing but "smokestack lightning" ( 5:43 ) sounds like a 9 year old girl throwing a tantrum..
Myles has a much better vocal range and can hit the high notes effortlesly while chris has to screech to hit them.
JohnMstudios 1 year ago
Cornell was great in his prime. He sucks now. Plus, he just screams the whole time. Myles actually SINGS, and his voice is still amazing.
lilORANG 1 year ago
@lilORANG but he screams soooo well. they're my favorite two singers ever so it doesn't matter....and by the way, cornell doesn't suck now. type in "Soundgarden Beyond the Wheel" and find the video from 2010
thebatman93 1 year ago 2
@thebatman93 Aight, maybe "sucks" is a little too harsh. He's still better than most, but his voice just doesn't sound the same anymore. I don't know what it is....
lilORANG 1 year ago
jeff buckley no contest. chris and myles are great obviously, and probably even better rock singers than jeff... but jeff was so versatile... rock, folk, blues, jazz, opera, pakistani music, punk and probably way more than i even know. more than that he was an artist. chris and myles are great, powerful singers, but they don't even come close in terms of the whole package and what it truly means to be a vocalist. sorry to turn this into a triangle lol.
coreyvdh 1 year ago
@coreyvdh but if you listened to chris's new stuff you would hear that he can do soul and bluesy stuff just as well as jeff.
superstomp2 1 year ago
@superstomp2 maybe its just a matter of taste, but chris cornell's last two albums were weak imo. don't get me wrong, i LOVE temple of the dog, soundgarden, audioslave and his album euphoria morning, they display his obvious strengths as a rock vocalist. the power, the screams, the intensity, attitude, control and even songwriting. but jeff had something that neither chris or myles can touch.. and i bet they would both agree themselves. it was his artistic integrity, spontaneity and true beauty.
coreyvdh 1 year ago
My personal preference, myles. However I grew up on chris,so lets all be thankful god hasn't decided to have either of them join rev.
Mariannalice 1 year ago
If you compare just by straight singing ability, Myles has a clearer tone and I guess its easier on the ear BUT!, they're both rock singers and if you want to go by who you think has the better pipes for what they do *HANDS DOWN Cornell* His voice forged a new age of rock, and has millions and millions of followers, that speaks for itself. THUMBS UP FOR CORNELL
xxvanillagxx 1 year ago 31
@xxvanillagxx thats what ive been saying i like myles kennedy and listen to both alter bridge and the mayfield four but when it comes to rock vocals he just isnt chris cornell

cornell 's voice is shot...Done! and myles will go on forever! (better technique) and he can play with his voice alot more than chris can!

I'm just discovering Myles, and he is not disappointing me in the slightest. He's incredible...kind of like...if you took Chris Cornell and Jeff Buckley and stuck them together (I can't think of a much better combination than that)

Cornell's one of Kennedy's biggest influences... Hadn't Cornell existed, there'd be no Myles Kennedy... Both are f*kin amazin and the comparison is childish...

Has to be myles kennedy of course, heard cornells new shit? man should be castrated
k13mgu 1 year ago
Both are absolutely great lead singers, but Myles is way better in my opinion. He sings the high notes much more unforced. He sounds absolutely great at his head voice.

Thanks for the great video. Comparing these voices was pure ear candy, but why do I have to choose? Both are incredible! They are way better than anything playing on the radio these days. I do think Cornell has the sexiest armpits though!!!! Hahahaha!
CSWRB 1 year ago
Two of my favourite, if not favourite, vocalists. I couldn't pick between them. Both absolutely incredible vocalists and musicians. To have the opportunity to have a face to face orgasm with either of them would be a dream come true. Legends.

Chris Cornell..More feeling..Not much more though.
MrHannan1992 1 year ago
Definately Myles Kennedy. I mean... Just listen to him performing Summergirl as a Mayfield Four member or Save Me in Alter Bridge. Chris can't do that.
Fonsveritas 1 year ago
@Fonsveritas chris cornell is naturally a baritone singer and myles kennedy is naturally a high tenor, they are both equal in their own range in my opinion
BadmotorfingerBand 1 year ago
@BadmotorfingerBand cornell can sing much higher than miles.
dukeljk 1 year ago
