Wow, the kid in front stepped on his foot. That happened to me once. Luckily I didn't fall.

I remember one time my freshman year the director made us march outside after it rained. This was before our practice field had blacktop. Lots of slipping and sliding. Sousaphones and bass drums falling. Someones shoe got stuck in the mud.

Ok, I play the sousaphone and it is, indeed, a crappy sounding instrument. It also IS NOT as easy as it looks like to march. Now, with this guy there either wasn't enough spacing, he couldn't see well over the bell, or he just sucks at keeping count.

People, stop getting on other's cases about it being called a Sousaphone (yes, SOUSAPHONE, for you morons who keep griping at people and misspelling it yourself). A sousaphone is a marching tuba, a contrabass is a marching tuba, a tuba is just the general name for a concert tuba. Either way, it's a TUBA, so quit getting your panties in a bunch when people simply say tuba!

So THEY ARE STILL TUBAS, but personally i prefer a contra because their sound is a lot better than a sousaphone. By the way, you spelled Sousaphone wrong

a year or two back, in my marching band, one susa fell over sdeways. his susa bounced against the ground and started flying back up with him still wearing it so he went right back to marching IN TIME TO THE DRUM LINE RIGHT BEHIND HIM.

I got taken out by the Euphonium (I was in the front of the line and had to take big, steps to get to my spot. Euphonium came right at me. He was supposed to take a turn, but he didn't turn fast enough, and slammed his instrument into my head). Straight in the side of the head. One thing you should practice at home is how to get up gracefully after you fall with your instrument. You'll be glad you did. (Just protect your instrument!) Tuba players and percussionists have very few options!

Woo! Marching band is a dangerous sport. Anyone can get into a mess. The other day some girl got smacked in the head with a contra and she has a concussion and the tuba players mouth was bloody. Also someone rolled their ankle. I've tripped marching backwards. It happens. No one is perfect. We all get blisters on our feet and sunburns. We all sometimes pass out from over heating. Marching Band is a fun but one of the most dangerous sports in the world.

one had an anxiety attack before competition

one learned that he had a heart condition during a game

one broke his arm (fell during show)

Euphonium accident here. Then I got into an accident with my fellow trumpet player and a percussion player. The trumpet player behind me stepped on my heel (sometimes freshman can be dangerous...) and caused me to fall forward right when the percussion was passing by I hit my head against the percussion players chest and slammed my stomach into the drum.
