  • seeing as the USA refused to sign the Kyoto agreement it seems unfair to blame china for producing slightly more CO2 : especially when china produce a lot of products purely for export. if the USA manufacturing was even close to their level of consumption they would produce a lot more CO2 than china.

Dear USA you are killing the rest of the world, please stop.....

  • @FAllenAngel335 LOL - yes CO2 will kill us all ... :|

  • As I watched this video It dawned on me I never met or herd of a RACIST nerd.... So if nerds are smart , and not racist.... what does that say about RACIST????? just a thought..... BUT anyone thats against MOTHER EARTH I'm against .....

  • ooh, never mind is flashed a little later in the video...

  • Canada didn't flash red once, so either the information isn't available or we're VERY GREEN.

  • @NamelessShadow90 actualy canada flashed several times throughout the show you should look again

  • Is your head covering the Republic of Ireland everytime something happens, or am I seeing very few births, very few deaths, and very few carbon emmisions? O_o

  • Did Canada have any babies... ever?

  • nothing happen to sweden during the whole video :P that shows how boring we really are xD

  • wow... hank and john are life changing lol my ongoing campaign to buy a dodge ram ends here :[ cause all those red flashes, littttlleeee scaryyy

  • 5338/4=1334.5*60*24 = 1,921,680 Happy birthday 2,000,000 People! (Rounded up to adjust for rising population. Don't think we are going to level out anytime soon.)

  • @PtahGaming 5338/(3+29/60) ≈1532.44, 1532.44*60*24 ≈ 2,206,718

("being a nerd" ←you're doing it wrong)

  • @eyeammi What's the(3+29/60) representing? Mine is /4 for the amount of people in a minute. Then *60 for an hour. *24 to get a day. Please explain, I'm curious.

  • @PtahGaming Ah, are you adjusting for the 26 seconds he was talking? I didn't even pay attention to that, I assumed he was leaving it in the background. Checked it again and your correct, but that's not the point of my post. It's to show how many people are being born each day. It's crazy. Anyways I don't appreciate the ("being a nerd <-- doing it wrong") comment. You could have been a little more respectful, like most Nerdfighters. Thanks for your time.

  • @PtahGaming One of the best lessons I've ever learned was to not be offended when I've been corrected. (Especially when I understand my mistake better as a result & agree with the conclusion)

    Peace

  • HI!!

i literally said that at the end of the video when he answered his phone...

  • I think the Republic of Ireland has found the secret to immortality while being green...

  • I don't think i saw anything happen in Canada xD

  • Things like these make me remember why I want to study environmental sciences :).

  • @Hartfordamy there is something about Aboriginals in the top Bar thingy

  • I'm in Spain right now, and it's funny because I'm not seeing ANYTHING happen in Spain...

Although that might be because your head blocks it a lot...

  • It's like a pre-SciShow SciShow..

  • It's like you went around Czech Republic on purpose!

  • brrrr gave me a chill

  • was too distracted by the background. Gonna watch again now =)

  • There were 6 billion 800 million when he made this. 2 years later, we have about 300 million more people.

  • that shit is crazy!!! check my channel need you for videos

  • It's weird to think that there are deaths occurring constantly, and for us, it's just a little black dot on the screen. But for the person who's, I'll just say, lying in that hospital bed with, hopefully, family, it's the end. And for their family, maybe the person's children, that's their parent who they won't just 'see later'. I'm going to go all sentimental on you saying how important every day really is, even if you don't feel like you want a tomorrow. (And by the way... HANK = AWESOME)

  • YES...someone who really understands how intricate this whole problem is!! When we think about saving this planet, we mean ALL the problems being solved. Not just 'going green' or 'helping kids in Africa', these organizations should work together. And we should be thinking about ALL the sides!!!

  • Most of the world seems to neglect the whole baby-making thing.

  • "There is actually a baby popping out of a mother every time you see a little white star". And so Hank forgot that this wasn't live

  • The next LED lights, will be able to emit 300 watts, and only use 1/10 of a volt...

  • @BKradley And minimum 3000 Amps. That was the first thing I thought when i read this comment. Feeling nerdy :)

  • Ever since he pointed out that the little blue star in India never stopped that was all I saw. I didn't hear a word he said!!

  • There is like nothing happening in Canada. Can't decide if that is worrying or a good thing.

  • According to the CO2 emission number of 4.616 megatons, we have an emission of 8.1*10^10 cubic feet, or a cube that's 4,236 feet across, in 3 minutes and 27 seconds! In 1 year, the cube will grow to 660 million feet across. Maybe if we're nice to mother nature, she'll be nice enough to help us get rid of the stuff over time.

  • 2,000 born.

    102 die.

  • This is the first video I ever watched! :D I have officially watched ALL Vlogbrothers videos! :D

  • Almost nothing is happening to Canada...

  • i actually thought it said "how to be A green"

    damn...

  • I love all the weird motions he makes in this <3

  • Congrats!...Thanks for sharing this information, i think is really important as you said, UNDERSTAND!....

  • so apparently, no babies are being popped out in australia, eh? it's nice to know that the rest of the world cares about us ..

  • ah!!!!! my god!!!! australia didn't blink once!!!!! i don't live here!!!!! no one lives here!!!! we have absolutely no effect on anything!!!!!

  • @mslovinlife934 I've seen Australia flash red once. It means you at least produce carbon dioxide, "horray"...?

Don't worry about it, majority of Europe didn't do anything.

  • @tbseuss Nah, we're just that awesome!

  • Comment removed

  • We Canadians are immortal. In order to reduce world suck we have decided to stop having babies. (Ya we are taking one for the team and didn't even need to watch the awful "Torchwood: Miracle Day" to know it was what we needed to do).

  • Why is nothing happening in Canada? :S Are we that boring?!

  • @HelloRaynbo Yeah. There's actually an index (it is a bit strange), of "happiness" by country. Apparently people living in Iraq, Afghanistan etc. are happier than many westerners. Just seems a bit strange.

  • I could watch that website for about thirty seconds before I started freaking out over co2 emissions

  • @MissMeggie2804 i freaked out the other day when i read (from a scientific report) that to produce one 1kg of beef, we release the CO2 equivelant of burning 50L of petrol... thats like the tank of one medium/small size car- and the average family i guess eats that much meat at least twice a week? :O i eat little meat anyway (for environmental reasons), but know just how high the impact is (let alone the deforestation and chemical use aspect) has put me off even more

  • There is actually an easy way to act against the destruction of the rainforests and thus to minimize co2 exhaustion. Simply search with Ecosia, a non-profit search engine.

visit ecosia.org or the youtube channel ecosiaORG for further information

  • Hank, you're awesome, but you and John both need to stop saying 'vast majority'.

  • this map is so cool

  • so nothing really happens in Australia?!

  • @Hartfordamy Yes We are a green Country! Aussie is a good place to live

  • @ItsAmysCrazyLife i know- i live in Melbourne and we are awesome :D

  • @ItsAmysCrazyLife we arent that green.... we just have a small population. per capita we're one of the top polluters and wasteful people. :( melbourne is maybe heading in the green direction faster than other cities (perth is starting too) but its such a slow process here because i think it is more pushed by 'green' being 'fashionable' rather than people really understanding what and why we are moving in this direction

  • @Hartfordamy Nothing happens in South America either.

  • Stop breeding so much!!!

  • @Kochofication Ireland isn't being tracked. The countries that are lightest are not being tracked.

  • Australia blinked twice. That's 2 times more than it should have. -3 being Australian

  • Hmm, I noticed nobody was born or died in Ireland... Does that mean... we're all immortal and infertile?!

  • I was watching the America part on The Wall (because I live there) and I'm like, "OH! A baby was born! Yay! Another person!" then s econd later, "Darn, somebody died... never mind..."

  • The Wall is fascinating :)

  • Egypt is the only country that blinked in Africa.

  • I saw one of the quotes in the top of the video and it said "Sometimes when I consider what tremendous consequences come from little things...I am tempted to think...there are no little things"-Bruce Barton

Is he trying to say that since there are no little things, that there are no 'tremendous consequences'?

Or he is saying that there is no such thing as a little thing and everything is a tremendous consequence?

  • Hmmmmm, absolutely nothing happened in NZ, Australia had a baby at 2:24 (VT) but nothing for NZ in that time period... :(

  • Okay, so Hank this kinda bothered me; I read explanation on Bleja's page about CO2 and I get it's all about the total. But this is a graphical representation. Countries with larger landmasses and more people will blink a lot more rapidly than smaller countries, that combined would blink much faster. Take for example western Europe, here the avg. emission per capita is about twice as large as that of China. If these countries were depicted as EU, it would blink twice as fast (assuming equal pop.)

  • @armanixD You are my favorite thing about Nerdfighters! You had an issue with something in the video, so you made a well thought out, eloquently expressed comment to make your point, instead of turning on the caps lock and wailing on the keyboard. So thanks!

[I also happen to agree with your point.]

  • Wait a minute... I was born in Australia.....Why is no one else?

  • @TheCharnstar Me too. Nothing happens there on this map though.

  • 2:17 the quote by Albert Einstein at the top. Rock on :)

  • Nothing happerns in England...oh the trurth hurts!!!

  • A baby POP out of a Mother. As an adult woman it would br nice if it was that easy. POP- there you are.

  • Hank, you make me actually care about the world and the impact in which I have on it.

  • 'You can not stop a guy from burning down a forest if it is going to help him feed his children'

    ...are his children beavers Hank?

  • its funny because nothing is happening in australia

  • i had to rewatch the video, because I was too distracted by the graphic to actually listen to hank the first time through

  • Wow that's amazing that screen thing... O.o

  • mo1 in canada died :D

  • Where do they get all that information?

  • david made the green screen?

  • Why is there no-one being born/dying in some places? Is it because they don't have the statistics for that country?

  • Aww man, I thought the title was "How to be Hank Green without being a prick".

Needless to say I was incredibly excited...

  • @GothicPotato2 someone doesn't recycle....

  • While that was very interesting, you never actually told how to be green

  • @queenfrostine97 He did. Inform yourself and help other people inform themselves.

  • Not a lot happens in Australia apparently...

At least not while Hank is making a video.

  • i realy hate that you indirectly say that USA donät need to emmit less carbondioxide caus china is wors...

  • I just watched the screen for most of the video while barely listening to what he's trying to tell us.

  • So why is the solution still not changing yourself? Where else to start?

  • New Zealand. Contributing fuck all as usual.

  • I wonder if those 141 people are the same 141 lactose intolerant people from the Ice Cream Changes video...

  • So many people died in Russia. =[

  • So no one is born or die in Australia..lol...

  • "You as a citizen of the developed world have far more wealth and happiness and power than the vast majority of people in the world"

    One can't emphasize this enough!

  • do people not die in Canada very often?

  • No, behind you there is a green screen :)

  • This was my first Vlogbrothers video D:

  • HOW COME NO BABIES EVERY GET BORN IN CANADA?!?!?!? no one dies either...

jeez, and this is the country i choose to live in.

  • Your correct, Americans eat too much. But the English drink too much tea. Damn my tea loving self.

  • This video was so damn confusing high.

  • Hank for president.

  • why is this related to tokin daily???? you are a prick BTW!

  • did anyone else notice that the "Great Salt Lake" appears out of nowhere and not in the right place on the map,(its supposed to be in utah and its somewhere in the mid west-ish area) and then it just disappears?

  • Anyone else notice Australia barely blinked at all? Bar like, red... once...

  • @EmskimoChild they ration internet, sad to say but the internet is a big issue

  • his mouse is over usa

  • 3:28 son

  • Haiku's are easy

But sometimes they don't make sense

    Refrigerator

  • Canada turned red 3 times (to clear things up). 1:23, 2:16, 3:14 (apprx) & there was the odd birth/death occuring.

  • I have to give a presentation on population growth for my environmental ethics class tomorrow and this has been very helpful. Thanks Hank.

  • wait australia had a babyy once

  • Australia is pretty green apparantly no one dies or is born or flashes red.

  • I showed this to my Sustainable Organizations professor and just got some major brownie points. :)

  • For all the praise Canada is getting on the video, I'm going to humble us Canadians a little. First of all, if there aren't any babies being born in Canada it means that our population is aging. That causes numerous and serious problems, especially with health care, pensions and pretty much everything because the young are going to have a very hard time paying taxes for the oldies. Secondly, If you notice at 1:24 Canada is darker. We just emitted over 1000 tonnes of CO2. Just sayin' folks.

  • i love how he says we can't all eat like americans eat as I'm eating a doughnut....thanks for making me feel fat Hank. ;)

  • 0:10 GOPHER HANK!

  • Canada is just the best, one day I will see the world and it makes me so happy to know that when ive seen it all, I will return to such a beautiful country. British columbia all the way!!!!

  • Im Canadian and im going to say that Canada is rather passive; if you know what I mean. It's like the shy kid in the corner that no one notices. The only time Canada is getting recognized is when people are making fun of it ;)

    gotta love Canada (:

Also gotta love that instead of having babies the citizens of Canada focus on ensuring no one dies.

  • is it just me or is no one being born, dying or admitting carbon in australia?

  • To bastardize a Dead Kennedys song; we can't change society in a day until we change ourselves first from the inside out.

  • Canada isn't broken, we're just immortal.

  • @Joci445 lol well said my friend!

  • i love living in Sweden. We are one of the few countries along with for example Norway and Uzbekistan to have cut our carbon dioxide spending the last four years :D

  • lalalalala

  • am i the only one freaking out about how much more white stars popping up than black stars?

  • LOL nothing happens in Australia XD

  • Do you practice what you preach? I notice people who preach this stuff has as big carbon foot print as the ones who just lie their lives. Ted Turner has a huge fancy house and tell everyone else to live green and he wants to reduce the population by 80%.

  • latin brides so sexy **busizz4me.info**

  • Nice guitar:)

  • Hank you should talk about how the tigers are going to be extinct by like 2020. I told my friends and they laughed at me, becuase i cared. So I think you should make a video about it and in which tell my friends ( my name is Emma) to take it more seriously. Please and thanks!

  • holy crap: I don't hate all enviormentalists anymore....just the in your face ones, which are most....

Thank you for not being a prick.

  • i believe the way we should fix ourselves by becoming africa, wait, ummmm.....

  • I thought the title was "How to be A Green without being a prick"

    ......

  • @swwimmbabe Same here!! lol

  • @swwimmbabe yea this video is giving us the information that we need to know to understand on how to be green

  • No one died in Sweden during this video: Win!

  • Nothing happened in Australia..

  • i think canada is broken

  • how can you 'dislike' this?

    idiots.

  • india baby factory

  • Yup. ahhh immortallity has its perks :)

  • canada only flashed like ONCE that I saw... my mom is canadian but im not. totes getting a dual citizenship (cuz she asked me if i wanted one). also, I'm totes going to a college there :D... maybe idk

  • @cimbles Yay Canada!!!

  • @cimbles im canadian, canada is a great country, but consider the WAY smaller population of canada in comparison to the us, or china or india. per person, canada is FAR worse for the planet than the us.

also DO come to college here! im at university of toronto - GREAT school!

  • @lzcwby queen's! :)

  • One thing that wasn't mentioned which I feel is important. Along with pumping mass quanities of CO2 into the air at the same time we are chopping down mass quanities of tree's.Nature's filter for CO2.This combination will eventually kill us all. But only after disease and much heartache. We must be more responsible for our own actions. We must ALL do our best to change what is happening. One thing you can also do is only have a max. of 2 children. If everyone had only 2 kids, pop.would stop rising

  • Canadians must be immortal.

  • This just helped me with my english project XD Thanks Hank Green!!! :DD

  • u move a lot...just an observation

  • I found your mouse cursor

  • @SerenaRoberson coz it has a small population in comparison to most other developed countries

  • my country blinked red four times altogether and there were two babies born. That's both good and bad.

  • GB only flashed like once or twice

  • huh i guess canada is a dead zone wtf

  • i love how noone dies or is born in canada this whole video

  • @raspberryprincess8 actually two people were born in canada

  • @raspberryprincess8 someone actually dies at 1:57 yeah I just re-watched it and stared only at canada XD I felt like I needed to defend my country

  • @veroniquesparkle actually, it's a blue star! So someone is born in Canada at 1:57

Hey look, our population CAN increase. :P

  • Comment removed

  • @raspberryprincess8 3:28 someone was born here in Canada!
