Alexx, I have been importing the Sansula from Germany since 2006, and this video from 2007 was one of the first Sansula videos on YouTube - I haven't seen Musik Schmidt.
It IS a good instrument for people who don't have much musical experience, because anything you do on it sounds wonderful, and it doesn't have very many notes, and the tines are so smooth so they are easy on your thumbs. The flip side: it is difficult or impossible to make this instrument do more songs. I have written a book on this instrument (it is actually my nicest book so far) to help players get beyond the immediate but limited success this instrument provides naturally. -Mark
My friend ordered one for me for Christmas, and I just got it :) Very fun instrument. I've already learned parts of 3 songs haha. It's kinda basic, but it' also the first real instrument I've learned. Thank you guys!
I know vid is old, but I just bought this kalimba, HOKEMA B9 brand. The notes are (from left to right) a' c" c' a' a f' e' e" h' I don't know what it means. In my country, france, we use do, re, mi, etc). Someone knows if there is a song book for this instrument and some good websites too. Thank you.
i'va just bought a kalimba, the same size like this. I tried to do that tecnique what is right at the beginning (spce technique), i move my hands exatly like on the vide but i can't make that "echo" sound. Do sy have idea y?
You have the sansula mounted on a drum head? Start with the drum's frame firmly against a flat hard surface, play three or four notes at once, and the quickly raise the drum frame off of the hard surface. I find I have better control if I "hinge" the frame - I pick one spot where the frame keeps in contact with the flat surface, and raise the other side off the surface... and back down, and up, wah ... wah...
God I love that sound Mark! I wanted one of those Sansulas the first time I saw them. Need to save. Thanks for sharing and for educating the beauty of it. You just rock!
love at first sound! can't believe how soothing it is (would've bought one though it's a bit out of my price range lol)

Ive seen their video about it and you write "exotic new kalimba from Germany" so there is an evidence you have seen the video too

Ms, search the internet for: Playing the Sansula
and you will find the book. I sell it, and it is also sold by three different places in EU. Glad you are enjoying your sansula! -Mark

Is that a good instrument for a beginner? Or it doesn't matter on the type? What do you recommend what Kalimba is the best?

Salzburg Austria World Music Instruments I bought a sansula there the guy knew his stuff and said they do repairs.
If it is too far away I am sure he could advise.

Got your sansula fixed yet? If not, as you're in europe you might contact the manufacturer.

is this pentatonic a minor scale?
evka3 4 years ago
The scale has 1 3m 5 6 1 1 2 3m 5
So, it has the notes of the Ake Bono scale,
a Japanese minor pentatonic scale, but different
from the classic western pentatonic scale
(1 3m 4 5 7m 1) -Mark
