We'll be adding a 'compare' page to the site to address this very issue. Briefly, though, vatsim is an excellent hobby site (that's where we first got exposed to online flying). I even used it with some success to help with my r/w pilot training. It has serious limitations, though, and cannot be relied upon to produce a quality-training environment, day after day, night after night.

@TAGaming2 - like VATSIM but with all controller stations staffed with paid people (hence the fee), and busier because everyone's flying in California instead of scattered around the globe, and more realistic because everyone's using microphones, no keyboard. I like VATSIM but I'll be giving this a go!
is there voice on uncontrolled frequencies?

@whiskeyportal absolutely! Range limited by altitude of the aircraft involved in the communications.

So basically this is VATSIM with a subscription fee??? vatsim.net folks get the same thing for free
