No mention of course, of how old Ike was duped by the military industrial complex into starting a nuclear arms race that has lead to the massive proliferation of nuclear weapons. He saved it for his farewell speech, but still no one questions the nuclear arms race, and no one wonders why the hell we let the Soviets spread nuclear technology, and everyone loves Eisenhower. Thank you Pandora for opening the nuclear box, and thank you hope for failing us all.
@theCuno100 Oh - and the whole "something comes from nothing" argument... If you pose that argument, please recall that - that is EXACTLY what you believe - that your imaginary God 'CREATED' everything from nothing... abiogeneisis (translated = how things came to be) is not the topic here... he topic is that you adhere to a doctrine prescribed by bronze-age humans who claim to write a book that is 'supposedly' written by 'God'
@Socracea Who cares about trivial issues like that in Eisenhower's life, presidency and military leadership. Ike was great for America and the West in general. Is god real or not? I hope so; however, I don't know for sure and don't pretend to. I love Ike and like, for example, Andrew Jackson, Grover Cleveland, U.S. Grant, and others was a great leader and did good for our country. That's my point. I don't want to debate biblical issues. My position is in the first 2 or 3 sentences.
@theCuno100 Actually - if you read ANY of the things I have said... I have not been 'abrasive', I simply find it comically ignorant that people in the 21st century actually subscribe to archaic beliefs.. JUST BECAUSE YOUR PARENTS TOLD YOU TO DO SO... @theCuno100 "BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE - as far as your point about my lack of a 'Youtube presence..' @Socracea I will have to say that Soc has a point. Not unlike other theists, all I see in this lovely little thread are personal attacks on people who do not subscribe to the theistic mentality. @theCuno100 REALLY? That is all you can retort with? A video I made for fun when I bought my latest technology toy? I find that blatantly hysterical. And - for the record, we do not have our 'religious differences'... You are religious, therefore you are delusional... PLEASE remember that point, as it is my point to your embracing something you were weened on as a child, based on a fictional book, and embraced by another delusional majority because they had the same thing happen to them...
@theCuno100 AND since when does Christianity believe in "Live and let live"? You really should read that ridiculous piece of shit book called The Bible. I love how religious people try to pretend their brand of brainwashing is so "Peaceful". Here are just a couple of interesting passages your 'good book' has that I find appalling:
@theCuno100 It's something Islam gets just fine, in fact, Mohammed DEMANDS it. However, bin Laden, and others, BRAINWASHED the poor uneducated people and bred them to hate. Its actually a small # of Muslims too.
@theCuno100 We don't BOW to evolution, I understand it (which is more than I can say for apologists who ignore the factual evidence that proves it)... STEP AWAY FROM THE KOOL-AID! @DeniabilityPlausible Oh, you mean like George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin Roosevelt, Eisenhower, Harry Truman, John F. Kennedy, Lindon B. Johnson, Ronald Reagan? Yeah, our country was TOTALLY held back by all those ignorant religious people.
@SpadaccinoLuciano Well - delusions aside, we have had EVERY President in my lifetime at least LIE and say they believe, because the majority of my country are brainwashed idiots... I love that Barack Obama is an atheist who must pretend to be delusional simply to appease the 'moral majority'... Such a fucking joke...
Ike was a true national hero, a generation of great men who lead this country throught the war and after, George C. Marshall, Douglas McArthur, Harry Truman, Dean Acheson, we were lucky to have them. Their heads would spin if they saw our current deficit and faux welfare state!
We could use Ike back in the White House...and he would have handled Nam better - actually if he had been in office there wouldn't have been a war in Vietnam.
@RonocDondra352 Yes! In 1954 he made the wise decision not to aid the French in Vietnam, General Matthew Ridgeway gave Ike a Oval Office breifing of the staggering cost of intervention there and he decided to pass, wish he could have run for a third term, then no LBJ, Bob McNamara and no escallation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@RockyBalboa211 Best U.S. Presidents 1. Franklin D. Roosevelt 2. James Knox Polk 3 Ronald Reagan 4. Dwight Eisenhower 5. William McKinley 6. George Washington 7. Abraham Lincoln 8. John Kennedy 9. Thomas Jefferson 10. Ulysses S. Grant
@brtshstel Why is James Polk? His presidential term was marked by large territorial acquisitions of the United States since the Louisiana Purchase: from Mexico were conquered New Mexico and California during the Mexican-American War and transferred England, America, Oregon. The United States acquired the output to the second ocean and become a major Pacific power.
ames H. Polk was one of the activities of the President of the XIX century
@brtshstel Why McKinley? But under his rule began to turn America into a world power with which to still considered the leading powers of Europe. Granted, Theodore Roosevelt, too, should be listed, but he just continued the policy of William McKinley.
@ billyguns2 we haven't had a good president since JFK. My list of great presidents are Washington, Jefferson, Jackson, Polk, Lincoln, Roosevelt, FDR, Eisenhower, JFK, and maybe Reagan
@InternetSavage Both Eisenhower and Obama are a hell of a lot better than President Hee-Haw(aka Bush 43). President Obama never served, but at least he didn't pretend to serve like Chickenhawks Bush and Cheney. How sad those two were able to steal the election.
I'll take anyone over a radical marxist like Obama. Not that I liked Bush but at least he could fire a gun and fly a plane unlike Obama who's only accomplishment is operating a staple gun and political agitation.
I'm suprised you know how to spell Marxist, seeing as you have no idea what it is. "Not that I liked Bush?" give me a break;I know you voted for him just like every other ignorant person because you were "scarred". What has he done that has been so "radical"? He was handed a mess from Bush and now he has to clean it up. You Conservatives really need to get over yourselves already.
So tell me what conservative could ever vote for a leftwinger like Gore or Kerry?
The left sounds like a broken record though, always claiming that conservatives don't know socialism. The man only surrounds himself with czars like Van Jones, Anita Dunn, Ron Bloom all of which praise Mao Zedong, his communist childhood mentor Frank Marshal Davis not to mention nationalizing industry, healthcare etc. No, I'm afraid it's you who doesn't know socialism because your are neck deep in it.
Is that why some of Eisenhower's and Nixon's family voted for Obama? Yeah, I guess their Socialists then. We would have been much better off with Bush or Kerry (who served in Vietnam unlike Bush/Cheney).Oh, for the record, Bush had almost twice as many czars as Obama does and the term started under Nixon. The government doesn't own any of the companies it bailed out. Again, get over it.
What difference does it make how the losers from the Eisenhower or Nixon family voted? Means nothing.
The number of czars isn't the issue it's the kind of people appointed to these positions and it turns out that many of Obama's czars hold some pretty radical leftwing views. Regarding the bailouts you are wrong the US Treasury is now part owner of GM. Banks who did not want bailout money were forced to take it.
God I can't wait to see the day of reckoning this November.
@InternetSavage I'm saying they were Republicans that voted for Obama. My point is every President since Nixon has had a "czar" to oversee some part of the government. Your wrong;GM is paying back the government loans. The bailouts started under Bush for your information,in case you forgot. Day of reckoning? Please, your side has no vision, no ideas. no leaders. Just complaining is not going to get any votes.
We've never had czars that admire Mao Zedong until Obama.
Regardless of whether GM is making payments currently they are partially owned by the US Treasury and the unions I might add, another bullshit move by your Marxist president. I don't care who the bailouts started under, it's bullshit and it's unAmerican, Bush was just another big government socialist in this regard.
And yeah, day of reckoning. All the polling shows your shitty ass anti-American party is going down in flames.
I totally agree, but no need for such profane language. And technically, he's not a Marxist. He's a progressive, the difference being that Marxists want a revolution, versus progressives who want evolution to the same goal.
I totally agree that Bush started it all, but Obama is just making things worse. Obama was elected because Bush was so bad. Vision? Freedom for all Americans free of government intrusion. Ideas? GET THE GOVERNMENT OUT OF MY BUSINESS!
Eisenhower was certainly one of our better presidents; I also admire Washington, Jefferson, J.Q. Adams, Tyler, Garfield, Harding and Coolidge, all men of peace and prosperity. Our "historians" prefer to laud those who plunged us into unnecessary bloodbaths, wild spending sprees, and loss of civil liberties, horrors such as Woodrow Wilson, George W Bush and Lyndon Johnson. Kennedy would have been great.; Obama is just a continuation of Bush, alas, and worse.
@billyguns2 In the second half of the 20th century there have been 2 great Presidents, IKE and Reagan. Historians agree, and both of these men are in the top 10 of all time, with IKE at 9 and rising, and Reagan at 10. JFK is also in that group, unfortunately he was not around long enough for a true assessment, he is ranked for one event the Cuban Missile Crisis. Still, I think the criteria in the rankings is very objective, and the farther removed from the man the more objective.
Well he was against the military industrial complex, also he was against the robber baron monetary dynasties,Marginal rates were 90% for the very wealthy and that forced the corporations to either give the money to the government or re-invest in american business.
You Americans of today should learn from your president of days gone by. Eisenhower was one of the few great Republican presidents you had, especially if compared to both Bush Sr. and Bush Jr. He didn't just spoke the right thing but also acted more righteous. While he stood firm against the commies, US didn't openly invade countries out of their own selfish interests back then. Also US didn't support Israeli aggressions back then. And people believed in America as a not imperial nation.
You are correct. "Ike" would not fit in todays Republican party. He taxed the rich 91%. He signed the precursor to Medicare. The Interstate highway act. Atoms for Peace. The Civil Rights Acts of '57 and '60. He was whar would be called a RINO(Republican In Name Only).
Eisenhower was raised as a Jehovah's Witness. He ended up not staying with that church when he embarked upon a military career. Up until he became president he was uncomfortable going to churches of any denomination.
Compare Bush spendings to Clinton, and you`ll get another story. President Clinton reduced the national debt with 50% and left office with a record high surplus. Bush destroyed that, and left office leaving America in a rubble. Don`t come and brag about Bush. Everybody is glad that he`s gone, he was a disaster, a failure, a liar, and he didn`t win the election against Gore. He should never have been president in the first place. Fuck the whole republican party!
@slappy1234567 Bush raised the national debt $6 trillion in 8 years. Neo Conservative icon Ronnie Reagan raised it $3 trillion in 8 years and George HW Bush raised it about $1 trillion maybee a little less, maybee a little more. $10 trillion of the $13 trillion was created by the three republican presidents of the last 30 years. Obama raising it $1 trillion in 2 years isn't good either, but let's face it, Clinton was the only fiscal conservative president we've had in the last 30 years.
Obviously Pres. Eisenhower did not believe in removing God from the schools, political figures, Pledge of Allegience, or the Constitution of our United States of America...He was not ashamed to pray to his God before his constituents in public on national TV...what has our country come to now that it has become politically Godless?
can you imagine any public figure these days asking to join them in prayer? our country is so far removed and distorted from the wonderful 50's its disgusting!!! and im only 30...I LIKE IKE!!!
@galley, yup..it all started w/TV, which at first was censored like the books in school so ur kids were kept innocent from nudity, violence, cursing, etc..then the 60s came in w/drugs, rebellion, free sex communes, draft dodging, not wanting to work for a living..they got tuned in, turned on, & brain dead, lol..most wanting the gov't to support them. via welfare/food stamps while they laid around getting high, swapping God for gurus..sad, really sad..
@galley30 Yup, those wonderful 50s, when drinking fountains read "WHITES ONLY" and "COLORED," when women could aspire to being either housewife or teacher or nurse, when politicians were protected by the press, when a man could legally beat his wife, and conformity, conformity, conformity, was the order of the day.
@SlappyFrankenstein yes men could legally beat there wives.....psh your an idiot. Yes the 50's had definite terrible things associated with the times such as segregation, high racial discrimination and gender discrimination in careers of work. Though this period of history offered peace and prosperity to a century never seen before, where crime was low, divorce was low, and politicians were free to admit to there religion without the threat of being labeled an enforcer of a religion on his peopl
Because there isn't a cold war to open the opportunity for unconstitutional melding of church and state these days. You do realize that religious government prosthelytization is unconstitutional, right?
Well I think it's a little presumptuous for any representative to assume that citizens would believe in one god, or another god, or any god at all. I am certainly glad that nowadays president's don't pretend to address god, but actually address the people. Particularly when god is clearly a complete fiction.
@galley30 In the 50's there was segregation based on color of skin, and women are deemed "less worth" than men to some work, and were forbidden in the military. So not everything was good in the 50's.
@lotwyo In case you don't realize it, Ike was the first president to enforce desegregation based on ruling of the Supreme Court. And in case you don't know, Ike was the President who nominated Earl Warren as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, which crafted those rulings. Before you start condemning eras in history, you should learn some history.
@galley30 its called political correctness....a sad and horrible thing that many people believe in. notice how every great pres. weve had doesnt believe in that
@galley30 can you imagine any politician, especially Republican, promising that we will not use the strength of the United States to impose our views regarding governance on others and warning against too bloated military industry? I like Ike, and I'm 23 ;)
@DaniOcean I like Ike as well. An American hero, Supreme Allied Commander leading Allies to victory over Nazis in Europe. Then becoming the first Republican President in 20 years with his convincing 1952 win (his re-election in '56 - also against Adlai Stevenson - was by an even larger margin). When comparing Ike with our current President, one sees dramatic evidence of America's declining quality of leaders. If not for FDR-hating GOP in '40s/'50s, Ike would have been elected 3 times.
@galley30 as i share your sympathy I do not believe that America is a nation of Christians but a nation of Americans. Separation of church and state means just that, and if you'd like to do prayer you are most welcome. But then I am saddened when that means Muslims cant do it. And I'm not even Muslim. Because I know that an attack on one is an attack on all. I will remember 2010.
I know this last comment was written one year ago, but wanted to point out that his "prayer" if you listened to was, asked God to allow democrates to work with him... lol
I really dont care about the thumbs up or down thing..im not that silly and immature..im just a middle aged dumpy woman from arkansas as u say that has excellent taste & great vision "awfulvision" u chose the perfect nick for u btw...grow up! personal comments dont bother people my age, only children name call.
You know, listening to the part of the speech, about the free world & cherishing products from another land;, do you think he could have ever imagined the other lands taking over the value of American blood sweat & tears? Are we ever going to get it back?
Future presidents should be required to watch footage of Eisenhower to learn what it's like to be a strong, level-headed leader of independent thought and sense. He didn't have to read every speech from a teleprompter and wrote a good many of his own speeches as well some for Pershing and Marshall. He was a brilliant writer and orator. I doubt we'll see another like him for the next generation or two, or three, maybe 10.
Ike's judgement in others was his best strength. He had excellent judical appts. I know he regretted Earl Warren as Chief Justice. Too bad his health woes weakened him in his second term zapping his strenght like FDRs.
EISENHOWER SOLDIER AND PRESIDENT by Stephen Ambrose. They were originally two seprate books but now they're combined into one. Great account of Ike's life.
secret service came to my house because I left a recording at the white house that said "a lot of people are going to die". it was a prediction, so how come they took it seriously? I'll tell U why, 1st.
any 1 who really wants 2 harm the president ISN'T GOING TO LEAVE A
dumb recording that could be interpreted
2 do it ahead of doing it,so the secret
service is full of NUT CASES & they will get the president killed just like Kennedy
Wow! Only went to number 9! I thought it might have went up to 10 or something! I was wrong! Eisenhower only mentioned 9 things! Anyway, Eisenhower was great!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Figures, I get thumbs down. I have no interest to read about a life of a president who slaughtered 1.7 Million POW after the surrender and the war was over. He is an embarrassment to America and the military
No wonder our nation went to pot. He prayed! ... openly! That'll kill ya more than anything else. I was forced in 3rd grade in 1958 to go to Bible school once a week for an hour. The federal government should give me millions for twisting my mind and perverting me! I'm damaged forever!
How did YOU find this video? It takes a while to find something this obscure between rounds of bowling on your Wii. Do you work the evening shift or days at Burger King? I can hear you now - "Will that be fries or rings"
Obviously you found the video too! You are insulting yourself. Did you not think about that? Like I said, you're an idiot. I found this video by typing "President Eisenhower " in the search engine. Duh! I also don't owe you this but I have a Masters Degree and a professional job. You're right about being damaged forever but I don't think it's prayer that did it-maybe lack of.
How did you survive to be 58 years old and be as stupid as you are? Honestly. Get off the subject about BK. You sound obsessed. This is about you whining and crying when someone says a prayer. Who cares if he prayed. He was the president. It was his right. BTW, it may not have been Obama but a Christian minister prayed openly at the most recent inauguration. Suck on that retard.
Speaking of stupid: you are totally ignorant. You are the only one who failed to see the sarcasm in my original post. Maybe you need a little less degree and a little more common sense. You've turned a mole hill into a mountain because you are the one obsessed - with getting angry at someone/something. My original post, plain to see from anyone with a thought pattern, was to poke fun at this country of ours and how we've blasted God out of everything. We now pay the price. Chill out.
It's easy to forgive. But being trampled on by being called stupid or an "idiot" w/o investigation leaves you appearing like you might need some kind of therapy. Think before you speak (and type). Peace.

"Not that I liked Bush?" give me a break;I know you voted for him just like every other ignorant person because you were "scarred". What has he done that has been so "radical"? He was handed a mess from Bush and now he has to clean it up. You Conservatives really need to get over yourselves already.
Suprkit 1 year ago
So tell me what conservative could ever vote for a leftwinger like Gore or Kerry?
The left sounds like a broken record though, always claiming that conservatives don't know socialism. The man only surrounds himself with czars like Van Jones, Anita Dunn, Ron Bloom all of which praise Mao Zedong, his communist childhood mentor Frank Marshal Davis not to mention nationalizing industry, healthcare etc. No, I'm afraid it's you who doesn't know socialism because your are neck deep in it.
InternetSavage 1 year ago
Is that why some of Eisenhower's and Nixon's family voted for Obama? Yeah, I guess their Socialists then. We would have been much better off with Bush or Kerry (who served in Vietnam unlike Bush/Cheney).Oh, for the record, Bush had almost twice as many czars as Obama does and the term started under Nixon. The government doesn't own any of the companies it bailed out. Again, get over it.
Suprkit 1 year ago
What difference does it make how the losers from the Eisenhower or Nixon family voted? Means nothing.
The number of czars isn't the issue it's the kind of people appointed to these positions and it turns out that many of Obama's czars hold some pretty radical leftwing views. Regarding the bailouts you are wrong the US Treasury is now part owner of GM. Banks who did not want bailout money were forced to take it.
God I can't wait to see the day of reckoning this November.
InternetSavage 1 year ago
@InternetSavage I'm saying they were Republicans that voted for Obama. My point is every President since Nixon has had a "czar" to oversee some part of the government. Your wrong;GM is paying back the government loans. The bailouts started under Bush for your information,in case you forgot. Day of reckoning? Please, your side has no vision, no ideas. no leaders. Just complaining is not going to get any votes.
Suprkit 1 year ago
We've never had czars that admire Mao Zedong until Obama.
Regardless of whether GM is making payments currently they are partially owned by the US Treasury and the unions I might add, another bullshit move by your Marxist president. I don't care who the bailouts started under, it's bullshit and it's unAmerican, Bush was just another big government socialist in this regard.
And yeah, day of reckoning. All the polling shows your shitty ass anti-American party is going down in flames.
InternetSavage 1 year ago
@InternetSavage
I totally agree, but no need for such profane language. And technically, he's not a Marxist. He's a progressive, the difference being that Marxists want a revolution, versus progressives who want evolution to the same goal.
@Suprkit
I totally agree that Bush started it all, but Obama is just making things worse. Obama was elected because Bush was so bad. Vision? Freedom for all Americans free of government intrusion. Ideas? GET THE GOVERNMENT OUT OF MY BUSINESS!

Actually techically Obama is a cultural marxist, a product of the Frankfurt School.

Im from Britain. Ive read about American politics. I think the best US president was Eisenhower. I like Ike!
mahmooa1 2 years ago 2
Eisenhower was certainly one of our better presidents; I also admire Washington, Jefferson, J.Q. Adams, Tyler, Garfield, Harding and Coolidge, all men of peace and prosperity. Our "historians" prefer to laud those who plunged us into unnecessary bloodbaths, wild spending sprees, and loss of civil liberties, horrors such as Woodrow Wilson, George W Bush and Lyndon Johnson. Kennedy would have been great.; Obama is just a continuation of Bush, alas, and worse.
billyguns2 2 years ago
@billyguns2 In the second half of the 20th century there have been 2 great Presidents, IKE and Reagan. Historians agree, and both of these men are in the top 10 of all time, with IKE at 9 and rising, and Reagan at 10. JFK is also in that group, unfortunately he was not around long enough for a true assessment, he is ranked for one event the Cuban Missile Crisis. Still, I think the criteria in the rankings is very objective, and the farther removed from the man the more objective.

Obama has already plunged America into poverty.

Obama spent one trillion in 8 months.
Projected debt under Obama will be 10 trillion in four years!
slappy1234567 2 years ago 2
Compare Bush spendings to Clinton, and you`ll get another story. President Clinton reduced the national debt with 50% and left office with a record high surplus. Bush destroyed that, and left office leaving America in a rubble. Don`t come and brag about Bush. Everybody is glad that he`s gone, he was a disaster, a failure, a liar, and he didn`t win the election against Gore. He should never have been president in the first place. Fuck the whole republican party!
Enslaved10 2 years ago
@slappy1234567 Bush raised the national debt $6 trillion in 8 years. Neo Conservative icon Ronnie Reagan raised it $3 trillion in 8 years and George HW Bush raised it about $1 trillion maybee a little less, maybee a little more. $10 trillion of the $13 trillion was created by the three republican presidents of the last 30 years. Obama raising it $1 trillion in 2 years isn't good either, but let's face it, Clinton was the only fiscal conservative president we've had in the last 30 years.

Obviously Pres.
SlappyFrankenstein 1 year ago
@SlappyFrankenstein yes men could legally beat there wives.....psh your an idiot. Yes the 50's had definite terrible things associated with the times such as segregation, high racial discrimination and gender discrimination in careers of work. Though this period of history offered peace and prosperity to a century never seen before, where crime was low, divorce was low, and politicians were free to admit to there religion without the threat of being labeled an enforcer of a religion on his peopl

DaniOcean 1 year ago

Duh! I also don't owe you this but I have a Masters Degree and a professional job. You're right about being damaged forever but I don't think it's prayer that did it-maybe lack of.

dave0mary 3 years ago
