The KHL is good, but the NHL is much much better. Look at Nikita Filatov, captain of Russia's Junior team in 2009. In 2009, CSKA 26 games 9 goals, in 2010 NHL 23 games 0 goals. Most KHL players cannot play in the NHL of course. And there are only 3.5% Russians in the NHL. 52% Canadian. Its clear.

It's true Canada and USSR had a certain romantic flair. It's also true that hockey would be better without fighting as Gretzky also said. Now, it is the product of capitalism and circumstances. I watch these highlights, and the hits were nothing big. Dupont stood up the one Russian. Somehow Barber creams kharmalov while standing still. I say Kharmoalov dove. Then Van Impe hits Kharmolov from the side and Kharmalov dives again. Overall not big hits for a hockey game. But the bottom line is the Russians were scared of the Flyers. Plain and simple.

They had a lot of fighting with each other about taking players from the Russian leagues onto the Olympic team instead of some of the NHL Russians, trying to prove how great the leagues are and they were humiliated for it. They desperately want Kovalchuk to come play in Russia to give their leagues SOME credibility but, he wants to be in a better league.

Is anyone else not oblivious to the fact that there were only two american players on the Flyers? I don't get this america vs. Ussr crap, it happened in the miracle on ice, not this game.
