@miladymell - IT first showed up on Flaco Jiminez's CD 'Partners'. Flaco played accordian on dozens of albums over the years, this was a chance for Dwight and all his other pals to come back and make a CD w/him. The rest of the CD is pretty good, but this song just slays me.
thanks for the info. I did find the Flaco Jimenez CD (Partners) and bought it from Amazon. In the book about Zevon (written by his wife) there is an entry Warren wrote where he went to a club and saw Dwight perform this song and was very impressed by it and also happy to see what Dwight did with it. That is, indeed, high praise.
@miladymell All I can say is I saw him in Helotes (San Antonio ((outskirts of town)) and just kept kinda yelling "Carmelita" ....at the time my brother was in jail for herion and it made me so sad and yet happy he heard me, and I'm quite sure he saw me sing every line to the song ....for I knew the lyrics. Even though my brother wasn't there at the concert in person he was in spirit, thanks to Dwight.......THANKS Dwight!
