Rational Youth's City of Night is my all time 80's hit. This track is well made compare to other tracks, but I am surprised that its an underground hit, not public mainstream!!!
Amalgam of Kraftwerk and OMD. I went nuts for this stuff when I was 14!. Yeah, I got hell for it because it defied the suburban boy Heavy Metal diet. Well, tough. I still love it today!
I loved Rational Youth. They got lots of airplay at CFNY. Still have the self-titled EP with Holiday In Bangkok. Saw them at The Ascot Inn across from Woodbine racetrack circa 1982/83. Can't remember the name of the bar. Saw Platinum Blonde there when they were still a Police tribute band.
one of the first new wave 12in. i bought in 82 along with B-Movie's Nowhere Girl, The Mood- Don't Stop, and the Berlin album. always a classic cold synth tune.
@MaliBootyz well, you're obviously a DM fanboy that has been clouded by their massive crappola advertising, DM can be "good" (comercially speaking) but they are far from original my friend.
I had this album on cassette tape (not a copy but the cassette version of the album) . This is when Sony Walkmans ran tapes.
This was a great band. Amazing music to dance to.
I remember that they got alot of play on the various University radio stations that I would tune into - but not much play on the big commercial stations. They were very under-appreciated.
I've been looking for this song for 27 years! I've heard it in 1982 in Detroit (Canadian radio from Windsor "On the edge with Charlie O'Brien" and couldn't find it ever since! Thanx!!!
certo sentito cosi a 45 giri NON CI SIAMO ma rallentato sapientemente a 33 giri e tutta un altra cosa un gran pezzo di musica elettronica....provate per credere
I actually like Rational Youth's first version of this track (Cité Phosphore) better, but the Standing Waltz version is far too bubble gum aggro poppy. Did you hear the Standing Waltz version first?
Is it sad that I hadn't heard of this song till Darkseed 2?

I thought I had heard the 80's before. But this song is better than what comes on the radio. Even Depeche Mode cannot outdo this song!

@cairsahr Depeche Mode has outdone & will always outdo anything out there... Good song but will never compare to DM, not even close.
This sounds like OMD and so many more other 80s bands... it's not original, DM is.
MaliBootyz 1 year ago
@MaliBootyz I can agree to a certain degree, but DM at the time (1981-82) were not very original!
And for me in 1984 - men without hats, flock of seagulls, images in vogue, thompson twins, tears for fears were at least as good.
