  • I try to boot it from my USB and it acts like it will load and everything, but then it goes straight back to the blue screen with the error code and everything :( I've been at this for 5 hours D:

  • i tried the other ISO file and it ask me for a country code put when i hit 41 or 40 it tells me it cant read disk or their is no system disk.

  • i think i got the CD correct but when it loads it ask how i want to run it and i just hit default. when i do this it sits and does nothing but remains on. im at the point where it was supposed to ask for a country code but did not.

  • Thank you for the info! the Windows 7 disk worked!

  • thanx a lot been without laptop for a week an you saved the day

  • @68beth - Pleasure! Glad you got it sorted. The alternatives don't bear thinking about! Not easy but well done!

  • Only on Windows will you encounter a problem as ridiculous as this one. Thank goodness that Linux is there to save the day!

  • I'm trying to do this with my Ubuntu 10.04 cd so that I can avoid wasting my last cd-r. NTFS-3G is installed on Ubuntu by default. But when I try to mount the disk I get an error: "No such file or directory." Despite that error, I am able to view the disk drive and the files on it.

  • @JohnWesleyMethodism I gave up on the Ubuntu Live CD and installed this System Rescue iso on a USB stick. It worked flawlessly! Thanks so much!

  • The second method in the description works flawlessly. Just boot from disc and run through a few menus (i went to the drive selection screen just to make sure I went as far as possible without formatting), cancel the install, reboot, and it automagically fixes itself.

  • I have tried several times (using different disks and computer access for the disk), and keep getting "error message: "XY-compressed data is corrupt

--System halted" " Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks

  • Tried this a couple times, when I got to the $RmMetadata there was no $TxfLog or $Txf to be found. I put in the removal commands anyways and nothing seemed to happened when I restarted. Thanks anyways :D

  • Thank you so much for this u saved me m9ney and time. I didn't have a Vista Dvd so I installed xp. I will get windows 7 on my computer though thanks very much for this. :)))))

  • I burned the CD successfully but when trying to boot from it I get the following error message: "XY-compressed data is corrupt

--System halted" What should I do next?

  • @dandaily0001 burn it with a non-corrupt iso?

  • Great Post thank you...for those who didn't find this helpfull sometimes you might need to remove any files listed other than the $TxfLog...I had to remove $Txf as well in order for mine to work. to remove $Txf just type the same commands and change the name of the file only. Good Luck!

  • What's the country code for US?

  • Sorry it's not 1, it's 41. It's to do with the keyboard input map.

  • It says "Missing Operating System" and i made mine as a bootable USB.

  • it doesnt boot the cd can you help me?

  • @MeAndMyJays Same here. Won't boot the CD no matter what I've tried

  • aye I have a Dell 1545 inspiron and mine has the blue screen and I try to use safe mode then I choose it then goes back to the blue screen

  • you deserve everyones respect

  • Hey thanks so much for saving my computer. You are awesome, keep up the good work. Just a quick not to all. Make sure you type the spaces in correctly. The video doesn't point them all out but you can tell by reading the screen where they are. It works, just bare the typos you will self incur.

  • @USMC786 - Thanks dude. Have re-annotated to hopefully put in spaces I missed before. Thanks for the feed back....and glad your comp is saved :-)

  • ok i put in the recovery disc for vista, and i even downloaded a official recovery disc from microsoft website, tryed booting it, it says " windows loading files" and looks as if it is going to start , but then immdiatly after the bsod comes up and i have to force shut down my laptop :( any idea's people? please?

  • The cd wont boot. I know I burned it right and for sure its bootable but my computer says that there is no bootable device available.

  • Ok Great job The Windows 7 install disk was a champ. I was reading up on how to use the linux method......I have rescued a ton of data with my favorite PUPPY LINUX distro. I scrolled down and saw the windows 7 preinstall and It worked great... THANKS !! And great job

  • do i need to do the "$Txf" first or leave it alone

  • y does it keep telling me that when i do the "rm -rf\$TxfLog" that it is an invalid option

  • @dcc61684 - don't forget to do a SPACE before the backslash.

    So rm[space] -rf [space] \$TxfLog

    Case sensitive too. Good luck

  • @GuyMagicFingers i figured out i missed a space and now it say cannot remove is a directory

  • @dcc61684 - not sure. Start from the beginning again, i think.

  • This actually worked when absolutely nothing else would. You, sir, win.

  • @SilverWolf1898 - it's a bit of a long-ass way around, but glad it worked for you. Make sure your service packs are up to date afterwards! Well done!

  • @ernndogg2000 - 61,000 hits, many very happy users putting nice comments, yours says more about you than I could even start to. Have a nice day and don't get too embroiled in your own negative quagmire.

  • i followd ur instructions bt i still getin the bsod! wat do i do :-(

  • what file from the website do i download?

  • my vista laptop was getting this bsod error code when trying to install an antivirus. I tried to reformat with the vista install cd but it would freeze when loading the cd at startup.

I popped in the windows 7 cd, then canceled and put the vista cd back in and it's installing now as i type. Thanks for the fix!

  • Help i tryed to install service pack 2 for vista nd wen it rebooted i gt this message !! 0xc0190005 !! 21847/63107 (\registry\machine\schema\wcm://microsoft...) plse help

  • @MRCARLOVER09 - sorry dude, try googling your error code.

  • @GuyMagicFingers Hey my computer boots up normally but I get a screen like that after a while I'm afraid it's gonna stop booting soon what should I do?

  • Edit: It's working!!! Thank you for the advice to use Win7 CD

    THANKS

  • @TIEclon - nice one dude. Well done & thanks for the feedback

  • There is also a message: NTFS signature is missing...

  • Hi i need your help!! When i type in: ls -l /dev/disk/by-label there are 0 results...There is just a note saying: lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root ...an sr0

What does that mean? And how can i fix it?

  • will the bsod go away if u reformatt it

  • No LoL i didnt try your Way , im not that good with comps ,

( system config , Hide all Microsoft apps , Disable all ) Worked Perfect for me ,

    then i could System Restore ! ...

Also Dust in your computer or on your fans Could Cause This ( cleaning my comped worked on my old Comp )

But TY for This Advanced Way , but i would only use this as a last resort

  • I removed the $TxfLog and i did everything else and it still won't boot.. now when i redo it it only has $Repair in green when i go back to that step, any suggestions?

  • Comment removed

  • @JSprayaEntertainment - I presume you mean 'don't DO this shit'. 99% of people have had success. Maybe your typos had something to do with it? :)

  • Hey Magic Fingers :)

Could you please help me When I boot rescue CD Caldera DR-DOS 7.03 loads and your commands in video does not work do you by any chance know whats wrong?

  • @dancerromancer - Not sure mate. Sounds like you downloaded the wrong ISO/boot disc.

  • Thank you so much! You saved the day and my pocketbook!

  • @joemoxie - my pleasure mate - glad you managed to follow it ok.

    Now update your service pack!

  • can I do the same work with Linux Ubuntu?

  • @SaliroO - not sure dude. I only work with MS.

  • 2:50 At rm -rf you have to put a space before the backslash. Other wise it wouldn't work for me

  • @SilentBladeX

Woops I didn't read the annotation sorry.

  • I believe I did everything as described perfectly...but now I get stuck on a a plain blue screen. Not the BSOD, but just a regular light blue screen with my mouse pointer. I can move the mouse and everything, but it does nothing else. I have tried loading the recovery disk and going throuh the start up and I always end up back at this blue screen. I thought maybe it could be a loading screen, but I have waited for almost 45 minutes and nothing has happened....HELP if you can please!!!

  • @brenaralus462 - have another go dude, maybe you did do something wrong.

  • i loaded up the disc and then chose 32 bit windows default setting then after a load of writing on the screen it went black and disc stopped making noise is this normal what should i do?

  • @zQSGI - try again.

  • @GuyMagicFingers

Thanks for this tip, I've used it once before and it worked, however, I have tried it on another machine which BSODed after SP1 update, and it hasnt worked. I've gone back in and the $TxfLog file has indeed been deleted.

Are there any other solutions that you now of, short of formatting the drive?

  • @betamale3 - Damn. Shame it didn't work for the 2nd machine. There IS an alternative. If you look in the info above, someone posted about using a Windows 7 installation disk, which is worth a try, however if you have removed the offending file, I don't hold out much hope.

  • Check the size of Random Access Memory (RAM) in your computer.

Excessive use of computer or a malfunctioning cooling system can make computer/laptop overheated.

    • Registry is the most vital part of Win 7. Corrupt registry is the biggest reason for BSOD in Win 7. One way is to clean registry manually but manual tricks could wreck your system completely if you are not a top notch computer expert. More appropriate way is to buy a good registry cleaner reg ion out and PC optimizer

  • It didn't work... i have 0X0000C1F5 stop error but i guess it's different than this one... damnit

  • @jrjtuber - try again. C1F5 is a Vista Service Pack update error.

  • it would be nice if you could have a link on how to make the recovery file into a bootable file.......when i download it it comes as a iso file which my computer wont read so my computer wont read it and i cant fix it : |

  • @stifler2x69 - you need to use nero or the like to burn the ISO (disc image) onto a CDR.

  • Boot from an Windows 7 beta (or later) CD, but don't install. Just boot. After Booting from CD, boot your PC from harddrive and enjoy :)

  • This stupid blue screen came on my HP Pavillion and i was worry that i would loose all my music, pictures and porn lol. but thanks to this video tutorial i was able to fix it. it works, thanks for the tech help.

  • @darkguy0217 - well done dude. Nice work. Make sure you install all the updates to prevent this again!

  • i burnt the disc but i get DISK BOOT FAILURE, why?

  • @mikaelaesther - make sure there isn't a floppy in drive A; did you change the Bios to boot from CDRom first? Make sure you burnt the sysresc cd as a boot disk; maybe it didn't burn it properly.

Anything other than that I don't really know as other people have got it to work - try googling. Good luck.

  • dude i cant enter a backslash into my terminal. my y is z and loads of other things are messed up too :S

  • Comment removed

  • After the 0x0000C1F5 they're other numbers and letters bracketed...

    e.g. 0x0000C1F5 (0xF50000A008), (0x0000000000000000) etc. it's not exact but similar...will this still work?

  • @Kevon100 - yes, all BSODs are worked out from just that 1st line.

  • i tryied to use the reboot disk from medion and pressed F8 but when its repairing i get the blue screen with STOP 0000CF1F5, i dont care if i have to reinstall all windows, so do i need the linux disk to do it?

  • @2200outlaw - yes dude.

  • I tried to use the Windows 7 method but it says the disc is in use, and I had to restart and then attempted an upgrade. Thing is, the computer cannot start, it cannot repair, go into safe mode, nothing...it just gives the BSoD.

  • @Kevon100 - use the method in the video then :)

  • Thanks dude, you're awesome

  • D: the links not working i cant download the system revoery CD

  • @Sporeomaniac - have you got the C1F5 error? If not, google the error you have.

  • I got this Screen when i was on youtube but i can restart my pc.

  • What do I press when installing windows 7 and how do i cancel?

  • Hey! Shit...

How do I do all these if I have a laptop with broken screen?

All I want is get it logged on to get the external monitor work!

The external monitor work only when the actual window logo appear with sound!

  • You, good sir, rule the internet. Or at least, the "how do i fix my computer?"-part of it. :D

  • GuyMagicFingers, you're a sexy god of IT. With the latter half of your instructions and my dual-boot Ubuntu, I was able to fix the error. Vista started, healed itself, and now works again.

Now when my car gets broken, if only I can smash the offending part and let it heal itself...

  • @daarklord - haha, nice one dude. Sexy? dunno, God? not really. IT? well a little bit! Glad we got you up and running better than your car.

  • THANK YOU SOOO MUCH...THIS ACTUALLY FIX THE PROBLEM COMPLETELY...IT SAVED MY COMPUTER...KUDOS 4 YOU!

  • THANK YOU SOOO MUCH...THIS ACTUALLY FIX THE PROBLEM COMPLETELY...IT SAVED MY COMPUTER...KUDOS 4 YOU!

  • BIG THANKS.

You saved another computer with this video today.

  • This help me at work, thanks alot!!!

  • The startup sequence and screens/options offered when using the latest SystemRescueCD are not at all like what's in this video.. No prompt for language code, startup hangs at "Waiting for uevents to be processed" ..

  • mine saids boot failed now :(

  • mine does nothing when it starts up...it goes right to the BSOD...i even made it so it runs the dvd first

  • Can anyone give me some specifics on how the Windows 7 disk works? Mainly, how far do I let it install before canceling?

  • Can anyone give me some specifics on how the Windows 7 disk works? Mainly, how far do I let it install before canceling?

  • @ChaoticChris5150 Wooops sorry double post.

  • my computer is working fine but i have one problem i was wondering if anyone could help. my computer is a 64 bit op. but i didn't know this before i did the recovery cd, so i did the 32 bit recovery. now my cd drive doesn't work and certain things go really slow. does anyone know how i can get back to 64 bit op system?

  • I downloaded sysresccd.Burned the image file to disk. When I tried to boot from cd on my dell xps 450( os windows vista.) I got a message stating that the drive is not avaliable. What could be wrong?

  • nevermind it booted thanks a million

  • @ForYourPleasure1 - ah, patience is a virtue! (it does say it might some time to rebuild itself!) - congrats anyhow :)

  • now i have a bigger problem i deleted the log out of sda 2 and sda 1. my computer isn't blue screening anymore but it goes to system repair and sits on attempting repairs for a long time. im lost

  • i deleted the $TxfLog but my comp. is still blue screening same error. I did notice that $Txf was there when i deleted the Log would that have anything to do with it?

  • Thank you very much

  • thx very much, it help me getting my laptop running again :D

    5stars

    thank you

  • bloody legend, thanks heaps for a very informative vid. my pc is alive again thanks to you. got it to boot from vista cd, reformatted for fresh install (just to be sure) and all seems ok now, question is do i try and re-install sp1 and other vista updates??? should just buy a mac!! thanks again, if only microsoft could offer the same support!!

  • @73dkirky - yes, definitely install all the updates for Vista. Don't use the machine whilst you're doing them tho - this is often why the C1F5 error occurs (during an interruption of installing SP1) - Later SPs have a fix to prevent this horrible error happening again. Glad u got it sorted.

  • I know that the following error is a common indicator of driver (software) problem, but I wanna know: could this blue screen of death error: stop 0x00000024 indicate in any case problem with cables, power supply (long time working PC) or something similar Anyone know?

  • @everyoneSalegend - take your hard drive out, stick it in another machine and run checkdisk on it in Windows on the other machine. Remember to tick the two boxes underneath (Automatically fix file systems & Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors)

  • @angelomorgan813 - make a note of the BSOD code and try googling it for a fix. This vid is only for the 0x00000CF5 BSOD.

  • hey guy, is this procedure only for a mac running vista? i have the same error on my dell and was wondering if your procedure would fix it?

  • @73dkirky - Can Macs run Vista?! This procedure is specifically for a PC running Vista and getting the C1F5 BSOD. Good luck.

  • @GuyMagicFingers gday, yeah good question, im not up with all the computer info so thats why i asked to ensure i didnt stuff my system more than it already is. great info, hopefully i can have this fixed soon. cheers

  • thanks sickboy1977 it works

  • You wound just used linux instead of windows anyway after that!

  • I did it and it still blue screens. wtf?

Thanks for the vid though, helped me check this one off the list.

  • Now Im getting 0x0000007B

    jeeesus

  • @jesster21 - try googling it dude, There are a lot of articles about 07B, but they don't sound good!

  • Yeah I shouldn't have started bitching about the 0x7B quite yet, I didnt realize that by fixing 0xC1F5 I could actually get to my system restore now.

Thank you for this video, you just saved my 2600 dollar computer!

  • @jesster21 - great! nice one! WTG.

  • I found an alternate method that works as well. Insert a Windows 7 Installation disc, boot into the first part of the installation and cancel the install. It fixes the corrupt $TfxLog.

  • @sickboy1977 - ah! Nice one dude. of course Windows 7 wasn't out when I did this vid- will annotate it accordingly. Thanks for letting us know.

  • @sickboy1977 i love you. you are a genius.

  • Fixing startup now. Thanks!

  • I am struggling to make the CD.

I have downloaded the file from the website.

However I don't know which parts I need to transfer to disc?

    Please help!

  • Worked like a charm. Thanks

  • wow just great.. when i restarted the comp, it tries to do an update. about 10-20 seconds in, it just turns black and then restarts

no idea what to do.. can't get into safe mode either..

  • help!

when i rebooted, it keeps getting stuck on the black screen with white text.

    "!! 0xc0000034 !! 142/48696 000000000000000.cdf-ms

  • @jkau94 - not sure I'm afraid. Others using this method have succeeded. Try googling the code 0xc0000034

  • i did, apparently had to go into command prompt and do some stuff

after like 5 hours of frustration it finally go to the login screen :)

right now its really slow booting up though.. i hope i havent damaged anything..

  • Hey that actually worked out pretty fine! Thank you very much, and for the people on the blog where you found it too.

jkau94, have you changed back in your boot options to HDD as your first boot option? Otherwise it will be slow because it is trying to boot from the CD first. Well if this is the case, just press F2 at the startup and change it back.

    Cheers!

  • Thanks for your help! I wouldn't manage to fix this problem by myself without loosing all the data/ Thanks a lot really! :)

  • @p4vl0o - great! Good news :)

  • Couldn't have been easier. Thanks for a great post!

  • @KittyCatWalk - glad you got it sorted. My pleasure :)

  • I can't get the recovery disc to start. PC is asking for a command [DR-DOS] A:\> Help!!

  • @gary028201 - A:\ is your floppy drive. You need to go into the BIOS (F2 on startup, normally) and change the BOOT priority to CD drive (usually D:\) first.

  • One may need to type "su" first if booting from other liveCDs to get full rights.

  • Fixed my problem. Thanks.

That System Rescue CD is awesome.

  • Hello all, I was doing so well up until the 1m 26s mark. I typed in the code as it was written and up pops :

    total 0

    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 9 2010-01-26 22.18 sysrcd-1.3.5 -> ../../sr0

It looks like it's found the rescue disk. Could the code for windows be the sr0?

    Any ideas would be appreciated!

  • @meatballuk2008 - no, it must come back with a code....sda1 or sda2 - go thru again, typing exactly what is written on the vid.

  • Guy, I have removed the offending $TxfLog file - however I can't boot w/ Startup Repair - I still have the offending boot loop. Any ideas?

  • @scraptooth - did you check (ls) that it had gone?

Are you trying to boot from the Vista DVDrom?

Do you have a recovery partition?

Most other people it has worked for, so I'm afraid I don't have any other ideas, sorry.

  • ey, i just happen to have a linux in my pocket, why dont i use it to fix my computer.

  • @fatgoaly - obviously you'll need to find a friend with a pc to burn the rescue cd.

  • well it's tough luck for me becuz the bsod shows after my start my computer

so i need help fixing it like that

ps. same goes with safe mode

and i mean every safe mode i try

    plz reply the solution

  • @aznnick30 - is it the BSOD code mentioned here?

If so, you'll obviously need to burn the rescue cd on a friend's pc and boot up with it.

  • @GuyMagicFingers what does the burning do and yes the bsod code is mentioned there

  • @aznnick30 - You need to burn the rescue cd (See website at the side) as a bootable cd. just follow the video and description at the side.

  • well problems fixed now thx btw

  • I take off my red hat 2 u...a star!!xx

  • @daybeforevenus - and a lovely hat it is too.

  • Subsequent recurrence of boot problems fixed too with the RescueCD...It fixed badly knackered NTFS.SYS and sorted laptop after I used it to delete all metadata on Vista and WinRE partitions. Thx so much for pointing me in direction of RescueCD..will never be without it!

  • Hey guys...

I followed the steps above carefully and i successfully deleted the $TxfLog but still I'm stucked in the BSOD...

    ...any help guys??...

  • @sasu28ke - eek, dunno m8, Everyone else seems to have success. Tried over again?

  • Thank you so much. I thought I was going to have to wipe my hard drive.

  • sorted, i was being stupid, its working now, thank you for this, your a diamond!

  • every time i type the ls -/dev/disk/by-label it says kermal image not recognised, any ideas?? its driving me insane!

  • lol
