The closer he was to passing he would hum it cause he could not remember the words. I learned the words and sang it to him (no disrespect to those that are truly Marines, I was just helping my father out. I do not claim to be in the Marines and I know I did no earn that right. But it made him happy to hear it).

Ial, first off war today is nothing like that. Most battles are small skirmishes in which our troops get ambushed and have to shoot their way out. Armor and air is usually not an immediate option. And even if what you said was true, would you like our troops to get suffer unessicary fatalities?
soldiers today are pitiful compared to the ones of WW2. everything is done with armor and aircraft when ever its going to be an actual fight. then once everything is softened up to the point of having next to no real resistance they send in the boots. even then they just blow everything up so there is no more intense close quarters combat with a ton of people in the mix. even with war being so much less bloody now people still lose their nerve and their mind its pathetic. soldiers today are weak
@ialokin122 you have no concept of combat...... yes things are not like they were fuckin 70 years ago, but combat is still the same. The casualty rate is not as much as it use to be due to our technology which I'm sure every American (excluding you) is happy about. Combat is combat, it never changes and never will so how dare you call men and women laying down their lives for you everyday weak. How about we bring back the draft so you can get a taste of how "weak" combat is.

i went to Marine Military Academy in Harlingen Texas. Every day we'd march to this song. I have an undying respect for the marines. I have this and many other songs memorized. I am shortly to enlist in the US Air Force and I know and can admit that even though I know I wouldn't be able to be a Marine, I have great respect for the Corps. These guys are at the fight before we even know there is going to be one. And that takes guts. Much respect Marines.
Daddy, Charles N. Sims, Jr., (Major, USMC Retired) served as a pilot for 22 years - WWII, Korea, Vietnam. He flew every thing from Props, Jets, & Helicopters. He was a true Marine, courageous, proud and the most loving generous man you could ever have been be blessed to know. We lost Daddy in February of 2009.
I have now been inspired to visit his grave site at the Ft. Hood Nat. Cemetery and sing the "Marines' Hymn" to him as I so often did while growing up.

I am shortly to enlist in the US Air Force and I know and can admit that even though I know I wouldn't be able to be a Marine, I have great respect for the Corps. These guys are at the fight before we even know there is going to be one. And that takes guts. Much respect Marines.

Daddy, Charles N. Sims, Jr., (Major, USMC Retired) served as a pilot for 22 years - WWII, Korea, Vietnam. He flew every thing from Props, Jets, & Helicopters. He was a true Marine, courageous, proud and the most loving generous man you could ever have been be blessed to know. We lost Daddy in February of 2009.
I have now been inspired to visit his grave site at the Ft. Hood Nat. Cemetery and sing the "Marines' Hymn" to him as I so often did while growing up.

I cannot express my gratitude to the United States Marine Corps. I am Australian but I feel pride that USMC has been acknowledged as such an amazing army. It is because of the sacrifice and honour that has been bestowed on them that I wish to join the army or navy when I reach adulthood. I want to protect my country's borders. I know every line of the USMC anthem by heart, and I am 14 years old.

@airgunnyboy Because the marines were brutal (not a compliment) they were ex cons and such, plus most of them had nowhere to go, which made them expendable. (it wasn't a big deal if they died)

@hex4393 Even if your ROTC is like Air force and you want to be marines you can switch over your credits to Marines. Or whatever like that. My parents told me that so that's what i well have to do.
