  • For some reason I had to use an External CD Drive to boot into Snow Leopard, But none of my drives show up in Disk Utility in Snow Leopard install. Does it have to be a SATA or IDE? Bios maybe? Can you help?

  • dude you are awesome for doing this whole series!

  • Didn't work and I did everything you asked for

  • I've downloaded lion twice now and it's saying that file size is only 12mb or something? when it is actually 3.x gb, i'm not sure whats going on.

  • I've got a bought version of Lion that I burned off my Mac Mini that I bought in 11', can I install Lion straight away or wont it work like that? Help/advice would be great! Thank you, P.S Love the videos man.

  • what version of iBoot do you use?

  • Hey @cpukid00 ,

Just finished my first build. Everything went great, but when I tried rebooting (after full install of Lion) from my HD, I keep getting Boot0 error messages. You have any experience with this? It runs fantastic from the unibeast jumpdrive, just trying to get it bootable off the HD (Seagate 1tb 7200rpm - I've tried 1 partition, and 2-800gb,200gb). Really trying to get this up and running especially since it went so smoothly up until now. Thanks!! Couldn't have done without you!

  • hi! if I change everything to AHCI, would i still be able to boot into Windows 7?

  • @Tomheidable Yes, Windows will boot just fine.

  • @cpukid00 hey i have the radeon hd 6850 but i get a kernal panic when i try to start the installation i used to be able to install it fine but couldnt update to 10.6.8 bc of my graphics card b4 but now that i got the bigger one i cant get it to install any ideas

  • @cpukid00 I currently do not have an Apple computer. But I do have access to a friend's Macbook Pro with Snow Leopard. Is there any way I can purchase Lion through their iTunes, USB it, and skip SL when I hack my desktop as you mentioned in the video??

  • Wait, at 8:59 why would i format the entire hard drive? wont i lose windows?

  • Really enjoyed all these mate. Major help.

Is there anything other than morality stopping me from jumping straight into Lion without using Snow Leopard though?

  • if i have a macbook pro can i just download lion from the app store and then just skip the snow leopard and just install lion on my newly built hackintosh (hackintosh currently has no operating system)

  • @videomasters2468 doesnt matter you answered my question in the video.

  • @cpukid00 i cant seem to find it.. Where is it located in your bios?

  • BTW whats better in lion? I kind a like leopard already :) Lion is better for MacBooks

  • @ThePioneerHead You should have an option in your BIOS called "Quick Boot". Turn that on.

  • @cpukid00 Thanks dude I'll try that.

  • @cpukid00 Could you tell me the whole path ?

I cant seem to find it.

  • @Cpukid00 I have a gygabite motherboard simillar to yours, in bios theres only 1 place to change to ACHI everything works with it, but i get this little loading screen "achi support only dvd" and etc. and it adds like 10seconds to booting, how do i fix this?

  • @gamereview2012 it will work jus it will be illegal copy. If it works for you just buy the DVD

  • NEED HELP! I got the msi 870-G54 mainboard and AMD x2 phenom 64bit. Help!

  • @RagDollRage AMD???

  • if i follow this installation, will the intergrated intel hd3000 graphics work?

  • @videomasters2468 sure, cause it works on macbook air and pro

  • I could do this exact same process on my laptop, right?

  • Every Time I load Snow Leopard in iBoot the screen just flashes and reboots the computer. Im using iBoot, should I use the iBoot Legacy? Am I doing something wrong?

  • I've hit every pitfall, lol. For anyone who didn't catch. When burning the iboot iso to a CD, if you're on a MAC already. You must mount in disk utility then burn, if you right click & burn, it won't load. Also you MUST have a Snow Leopard RETAIL DVD!! The grey one that comes with your Mac won't work.

  • nice work man love your stuff keep it up

  • i have a question would this work with a downloaded version of mac os x from piratebay if nothing was changed to it? i dont want to pay for the disc and it wont work.

  • Alright saw where i went wrong. I feel dumb know :p lol

Your videos are making me want to hackintosh again haha. Done it several times before.

  • @iCouldAppThat Yeah, it's a fun process! Thanks for watching.

  • Couldnt you just use the OSX lion thumb drive out?

  • @iCouldAppThat You still need an existing OS X installation to use that on non-Apple hardware.

  • Not trying to hate, but when you download from the MAS, right click and get the install.esd and restore that with disk utility to a usb drive or a DVD and you dont have to use SL.

  • @iCouldAppThat But if you don't have Snow Leopard how would you get the Lion image from the Mac App Store? This guide assumes the user doesn't have an installation of OS X, or a real Mac.

  • I have a question:

If i successfully installed mac osx, can i change the boot priority back the the hard drive, right now its on CDROM, so when i boot, it says "loading operating system ...................." then it boots into mac os, btw i am running snow leopard 10.6.8. Thanks

  • @minituff Yes, you can (and should) change your boot priority to your hard drive. This makes start up times much faster.

  • If my computer is ACPIx86-based pc do i still have to go in the bios and change everything to ACPI

  • @CreativeFXX The BIOS settings are AHCI, not ACPI, so yes.

  • After you finishing downloading drives from multibeast and restart the system. The interent and sound should work perfectly.

  • I dont know what is wrong with it, but u do...

I edited the image to fit it on a 4.7gb DVD... Got the image off of isohunt.com

Neither iBoot or iBoot legacy works, it just hangs on the startup screen for hours on end, and it will never load the installer... any help?

  • I have my Hackintoch up and running its great, I even used my time machine backup from old mac and moved over my files and applications. This is the best thanks for the help :)

Question what Bluetooth adapter are you using for you apple keyboard?

  • @brandonrobinson5150 I'm glad it worked out well for you! Regarding the bluetooth adapter, I'm using the Targus ACB-10US. It can be found on Amazon for about $10.

  • @brandonrobinson5150 Thanks i found one that working well.

Can adding a second video card help in going to three screens.

  • can you update lion/apps normaly like you would on a mac once everything is complete?

  • @dokkeyProductions Yup! I recommend backing up all data before doing Mac OS updates, though.

  • @cpukid00

Anyways, do you know if there is any version of OSX with multi-processor support?

  • @wiigamer136 OS X supports it, it all depends on your hardware configuration. Mac Pro's have had multi-processor configurations for years. You just need the right hardware to make it work.

  • Hey do you need 2 HDDs to dual boot OS X Lion an Windows 7 or can you just dual boot on the same HDD

  • @aczajka74 You can do it on one hard drive, but as you'll see in part 6, I actually recommend doing it on two separate drives.

  • @cpukid00 ok son what would you recommend installing Windows 7 and Mac OS X on the same hard drive or just running OS X because my motherboard can only support 2 sata devices one for my hdd and one for my cd/dvd rom drive

  • @cpukid00 *so* not son :P

  • im not that daring to install snow leopard on my computer, i did a dual boot with linux and it messed up windows 20 times before i could fix it. eventually it was because grub was not updated.

  • And sorry cpukid for answering there questions just want. To help

  • @DrMohanadHouse If anything, I'm glad that you're helping! It's hard keeping up with all the comments! I appreciate the help!

  • And to dual boot you can do it with 2 hdd and I recommend that because of the partitions type. And you can do it with 1 hdd with 2 partitions

  • You need bridge helper If you want to update to 10.6.8 With 10.6.6. Bridge helper is not needed

  • sorry is this has been asked before, but to dual boot windows and mac, do you need another hard drive, or can it be a partition made in windows?

  • I enjoyed your videos ! Just a question aside... Where can I get the wallpaper ?

  • i dont want lion lion takes Rosetta out. without powerpc compatibility, a mac is useless

  • @ImTheSeekr I completely disagree. Apple has cut off old technology in the past, such as the floppy drive, and they've been right every time. If we live in the past forever, how will we get more advanced?

  • @cpukid00 because each new intel processor that apple ships on its computers makes apple look more idiotic every time. I do not support bill gates, but he once quoted (paraphrased) "Jobs set out to build an incompatible computer and he did just that, I could not have made a better incompatible computer myself" referring to the NeXT project. without powerpc, macs can do nothing, they are hopeless, besides, i cannot live without a floppy drive. it saves money when the files are 1 meg :|

  • @ImTheSeekr living in the past is what gives us inspiration for the future, wed cannot live, or advance without looking to the past

  • @ImTheSeekr How does living in the past make us think of the future? That's not true at all. Macs do just as much, if not more than, any Windows PC on the Intel chips. The speed of these chips dominate the PPC chips. There's no comparison at all. I don't know anybody who has files less than 1 or 2 MB that keeps them on floppy drives. If anything, floppy drives are incompatible in today's standards.

  • @cpukid00 i have 1mb files, i had an old 180c, faster than any of these new machines, and it could do just as much. think about it, without the Motorola chips, there would have been no inspiration to upgrade to PPC. Macs are amazing for many things, gaming, not so much... if you look back, PPC macs had TONS AND TONS of games, after the switch to intel, PC's dominated the gaming industry, while macs took on graphics and hardware intensive duties, such as video editing, btw a work dos is a kb's;)

  • @ImTheSeekr word doc

  • is it needed to install chimera bootloader before you install lion/snow leopard ?

and do you also need to do this for a dual boot or must i wait for the your upcoming video with another methode for a dualboot install?

    keep up the good work

  • @rednas1401 No, you install Chimera after OS X has been installed. This is so you can boot into OS X without the need for an external bootloader, such as a flash drive. Dual booting is covered in the next part of my series. Stay tuned!

  • I have the xfx rad hd 6850 and it worked straight out of the box on snow leopard with no kexts ect

  • if i install mac os on a second hard drive so my pc is dual boot, will the bios changes affect windows 7?

  • @cpukid00

However, microsoft does not require you to buy an overpriced piece of hardware. Apple can afford to give their OS for cheap since they already make so many profits on their macs. They expect us to install it on a computer branded by them.

    Anyways, screw apple!

    HACKINTOSH FTW!!!!

  • @wiigamer136 Apple is a hardware company. Of course most of Apple's profits are going to come from hardware. They still could have charged $129 for Lion and people would have bought it. In my opinion, Macs aren't overpriced at all. Sure spec for spec, they're more. However, what you get is a flawless experience with both hardware and software. When you re-install your OS, you never have to worry about a thing, unlike Windows. You pay for luxury, and it's worth it.

  • @cpukid00

I built my i3 hackintosh back in late 2009 when apple offered a core-2 duo on their cheapest imac. However, mine costed $600 (Including monitor, and OSX) which is half of what they charged for a computer with less specs.

  • @wiigamer136 An iMac is a totally different experience. You can't compare an all-in-one system with a custom built machine. You pay for that experience, not for specs.

  • @cpukid00

True. Also, I wished that I had the bootup sound that macs have. I always hear it every day when my dad turns on his macbook pro right before he starts his work. It sorta takes some experience away. However, I can still code in Objective C on both an imac or my Hackintosh and use iWork, Ilife and other applications on both.. In terms of functionality, my hackintosh is fine.

  • @cpukid00

I also hackintoshed a HP xw4400 workstation PC thrown away in the trash with a 2.13 ghz core 2 duo, 1 gb of ddr2 667 mhz RAM, 80 gb sata hdd, Nvidia quadro fx560 GPU.

It is pretty stable too and almost everything works except ethernet. You gotta consider that I got it for free.

Nobody throws away a mac. They are just too damn expensive. Plus, if they do throw it away, it would probably be a old PowerPc G3 333 mhz computer that can barely run OSX 10.3 Panther!

  • @spacemobile If you look at the previous vids you would find the specs

If I remember correctly it is

    Core i7 930

    12GB DDR3 Ram Corsair XMS 3

    Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 6850

    64GB OCZ Agility 3 SSD

Can't remember case or Proc cooler.

  • @wiigamer136 Lion is pretty much a digital download, you either have to get it from the app store or in a form of a USB flash drive that you buy, therefore you need snow leopard/

  • Could you show your finished computer? specs and total cost?

Would like to see the effort/ cost ratio compared to just buying from apple.

    Subbed =]

  • I wouldn't also recommend laptop installations, because you probably will not find a DSDT file for it,and would have to hunt around for kexts, luckily for me I like challenges with computer hardware and software and thrive on it. I did get Lion working on a Acer Aspire 8930G laptop with has the following

    2.0Ghz C2D 1066 FSB

    4GB DDR3

    512mb Nvidia 9600M.

I had to change the wireless adapter to a Broadcom one because my intel one wasn't supported, and I cannot get my ethernet to work.

  • @henrymgray The thing I notice that winds up being the limiting factor is certain series of GMA video cards, such as GMA 5700, etc. My Stepson has this video card and it's not support, so no native resolution and no QE.

  • @cpukid00 another awesome vid, looking forward to the next.

  • Oh and cpukid be sure to point out that if you're using a Sandy Bridge based processor you'll need to install UpdateHelper -BEFORE- running the Combo Update.

  • @SC2Phan That's good advice.I actually didn't know that, as I've never worked with Sandy Bridge.

  • One thing that I think that is important to say, and you may of already said it, but for first time installers, do NOT attempt to just go in to this with a single PC. You're going to want to have another available system to google any possible hangups or kernel panics.

  • Great video great attitude and all the best of luck...

    Cheers,

    Beshar

  • Great tutorial cpukid, keep the good work !

  • Awesome Video as ever :)

  • i guess someones gotta ask a n00b question, why is better to have this than say windows 9

  • @ROH4LIFE91

I don't think Windows 9 exists yet, Microsoft is now working on Windows 8.

  • @Remi1115 :/ sorry i meant windows 7

  • Thanks alot man! I kinda got the multibeast part, the other parts I've got it

  • I don't mean any disrespect but I have put Lion on a bare hard drive using my thumb drive with Lion on it that I made on my Legit IMac running Lion.

  • @techgeekchad This video is assuming not only that you're not on a legit Mac, but also that you don't have a Lion USB created yet. That process is done in this video. New hackintosh users won't have a Lion USB on hand.

  • @cpukid00 I thought you was saying that Lion could not be loaded first my fault . Great tutorial by the way.

  • @techgeekchad Thanks for the kind words. I say that you can skip to the UniBeast part at around 6:54 in the video, as well as at the end of the video. However, I've added an annotation to the beginning to clear that up.

  • just wanted to confirm.. If I have a mac already, can I just install lion onto a usb with unibeast and just do a install from there? Or do I have to install snow leopard first?

  • @halamonsta Yes, you can prepare the UniBeast USB on the Mac and skip installing Snow Leopard.

  • @cpukid00

Why-the-hell did Crapple make you buy Snow Leopard to get Lion! Such greedy fags even though their products are pretty cool.

  • @wiigamer136 Considering both versions of the OS are still half as cheap as a single copy of Windows says something. Microsoft is more greedy in my opinion.

  • You are like legit so awesome man! Keep up the amazing work Thank You!

  • this video was super informative! thx! (:
