Interesting little tidbit I got from a Hispanic friend of mine. I played this song to him one time and asked him if he enjoyed the Spanish lyrics--he told me her Spanish has a Mexican accent. :-)

Suggestion: Check out Joan Baez "El Preso Numero Nueve" from one of her earliest albums. If you liked this one, you'll probably like that one too.

When I had my first discernible measure of success in the early eighties, I bought a badass SAE 1500 watt amp and two 1961 JBL Voice of the Theater speakers with 15" drivers with big steel horn tweeters that weighed 26 pound EACH. (just the tweeters)

Then I bought a Thorens turntable with kickin cartridge. Then I played this album, at least once a day, for close to a year, and even though i was on five acres, I assure you, my neighbors knew this album as well as I did.

love this album...used to play it over and over again when I lived in Ottawa..The Royal Winnipeg Ballet..did a whole ballet to this album and I had the great fortune of seeing it performed at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa...this was my intro to the album..a classic for sure...

This may be Grace's best song overall, but the album as a whole was a disappointment. There must have been a mad rush to get it finished because one track has David Frieberg singing with no Grace at all and the last track only has her singing harmony. Those two tracks are not even her songs

Am a big JA/Grace fan. bought this on vinyl when first released, have the CD now it's on my ipod. For me, despite JA, Starship, collaborations with Kantner et al, in various forms, this will always be Grace at her very best.

There was never any movie. She WAS interested in composing for movies and, in a way, this could be seen as something of an "audition piece." It does seem to play well as the soundtrack to a movie in one's mind tho'. Very cinematic in its feel.

you're right! no doubt the movie was to be about her manhole being pounded by drug using rock star after drug using rock star,but no doubt she'd have sassed it up with all kinds of vague images of females with babies,the dying world,nashville in the summer and boiled eggs. shame,as the original idea of her being a 'manhole' would have definitely made it to the silver screen,and undoubted success. the 'koyanasquatsi' vision,needless to say,did'nt.
