It's nice for the slow motion effect, surely. But it's not an inert atmosphere. First, simply burning alcohol in an enclosed space will not exhaust the atmosphere of oxygen. It will reduce the amount of oxygen by a large amount but not eliminate it. Recall that the concentration range of flammability for hydrogen in air is VASTLY wider than that of ethanol in air. I recommend using a jet of pure argon over water to repeat the experiment. This should helpfuly clear the smoke rapidly if done right
