  • I actually like both the 1971 and 2005 versions. The recent one is the most similar to the book though.

  • this moie sucked ass!! Johnny Depp was terrible. The original with genw wilder was the best and can not be replaced

  • there is no earth;y way of knowing, wich dirrrection we are going,or wich way the rivers flowing...thres no knowing where we're rowing is it raining? is it snowing? is a hurracain ablowing? not apseck of light showing so the danger must be growing. are the fires of hell a glowing? is the grizzly reaper mowing? YES! the danger must be growing for the rowers keep on rowing and their currently not showing, any signs that they are slowing WAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!

  • I don't know why, but this is one of my favorite scenes. Luv the music in this part!

  • beautiful movie and thrilling scene!

There is a bit similar ride at the Euro Disney Park in Paris,

    i loved it :)

  • i love mr wonka

  • Needs more headless chickens...

  • Why do people expect this movie to be exactly like the 70's one? There are things that are better on the 70's version that the 05 version doesn't have and vice versa. Were you expecting the movie to be exactly the same with the same dialog?

  • i really think they shouldnt've skipped the song

the could've used marilyn mansion's version

  • :( ... no one screamed in this one.........it's just another narnia effect ._."

  • THough this is not as hellish as the 70s version this further increases my belief that that the tunnel is a morality detector. In the 70s version only the rotten kids and their parents were revolted by the images while with the exception of him seeing slugworth charlie nor joe was never startled by them. The remake basically showed what charlie saw while the original showed what the other kids saw.

  • @Shanethefilmmaker I would agree with you except Mike Teevee was loving the original ride and he was very nasty indeed.

  • @siliconface true but he is used to that kind of violence due to his constant watching of TV. So odds are mentally he is immune. Much like how indiana jones is immune to the ark's wrath when he simply didn't look at it.

  • ppl stfu so what if the boat scene isn't exactly the same in this movie? GO WATCH THE OTHER THAN. this is my all time favorite movie <3. and NOT just because of johnny depp.

  • damn people are hating on this film alot.

I really liked this when I was like 6 years old when it first came out. now I just look back and think, "what the fuck did I just watch"? haha... I only like this movie because of Depp...

  • This is Fucking TAME in comparison to the original!

  • what the fuck!!!!!!!! There's no earthly way of knowing

    Which direction we are going

There's no knowing where we're rowing

Or which way the river's flowing

Is it raining, is it snowing

    Is a hurricane a–blowing

booooooooo, i am sooo glad i didnt see this garbage

  • Wow, its like a completely different movie. A horrible , unwatchable remix. I will be sure to usher my kids away from this garbage and show him/her the classic when they arrive.

  • there is no comparison johny wouldn't be able to pull it off

  • Ok, I like this movie just because of Johnny Depp!!

  • Not a patch on the original.

  • See, in the original Willy Wonka, Gene Wilder was a seemingly nice, friendly guy, so when he did his freak out it was terrifying because nobody expected it. This Wonka is already creepy enough, so if he'd given the same speech, it would have been like "Meh." I guess that's why they didn't even try.

  • This whole movie is absolute shit.

  • 39 people have never been a boat ride like this before.

  • thumbs up if you were looking for the original boat ride

  • I'm sorry but this scene is SOOOO much better in Willy Wonka than this version. I personally think that both movies have some good points, but I like the iriginal much better. And once again Gene Wilder owned this scene in the original

  • @thisacountworks This is the truth.

Although this version is good enough in its own right, I suppose.

  • Aaww,I wish I was there.....I wanna ride on that boat too,hehe,lol :D

  • I find it quite surprising that no one on the boat (especially the kids) were not screaming with joy or fear throughout the whole ride.

  • @AJRay6 negl, I was expecting at least one of them to scream! haha

  • Very close to the book, Wonka is weirder, darker, and classy as well. The original had some great scenes, but it's so outdated and looks low budget by todays standards.

  • Am I... The only one... Who wishes this was a ride at Disney World?

  • @SpecialKitty15

Imagine if they used real chocolate at the ride 8D

  • Don't know why ppl are saying this is closer to the book when Roald Dahl himself wrote the screenplay to the original film? Tim Burton sure disappointed imo

  • It was better with Gene Wilder at the helm.

  • this has to be a ride at disney world. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

  • I like this part:

Willy: For your information, little girl, whipped cream isn't whipped cream at all unless it's been whipped with whips. Everybody knows that.

I also like the look Willy gives Veruca -- very intriguing and inspiring as well! :)

  • For your information it is not whipped cream unless the cream is whipped itself...

  • shouldn't they of been covered in chocolate after that huge fall? I mean, in the original they got covered in whipped cream and were cleaned a moment later. Haha maybe I'm just being nitpicky... great film though.

  • At 0:19 Doesn't that part make your stomach drop?

  • this should TOTALLY replace the jurassic park ride at Universal Studios!

  • Just add about a spoonfull of LSD and this is just fine

  • No pipe huge

  • It is a tunnel!!

  • this tunnel went down and it had doors wierd

  • the original was a trip thru hell, this isn't even new jersey

  • thats a big ass factory

  • now see this seems more a like a really cool water ride at a theme park

the old one freaked the crap outta you but you loved it anyway this isnt even a little scary or exciting

  • fuckin sucks

  • thumbs up if you think this should tottaly be a RIDE!

  • um so yea the old one is waaay better and heres why it was filmed directed and written by people who had wonderful acid highs and the best pot around 2 inspire their ventures this is just shit take me back to cycedelic

  • lol "Why do you have hair cream?" [smirk] To lock in moisture in my hair :D" [frowns]

  • That poor cow...

  • lol i luv the oompa loompas

  • As much as I love the old and original version, this one has a dark, and more twisted sense of the story... I really depends how you look at it.

  • this seemed like a a ripoff of the original, the old boat ride was so much better. I liked how all the riders would panic on the other one and showing random images and no idea where they are going

  • What is the difference between this and the original? In this one, you can see where they go, and there's no images of chickens getting their heads cut off.

  • you simply can't beat the original Charlie and the Chocolate factory boat ride...no sir

  • To lock in moisture! xD I love that part.

  • I love how the laws of inertia don't apply here.

  • oh god, the new willy wonka is like..... eccentric.

  • Best part is 0:22

  • they should make the boat ride into an amusement park ride. that would be AWESOME. XD

  • @missystar013 someone said they should do the same thing with the old one,so i thought of this, they should recreat the ride from this one,and through in the images and wonka's song from the first movie in it

  • I like this version, and I definitely think it's one of Johnny Depp's best collaborations with Tim Burton. But I can't help but feel like if I favoured this version then I would be betraying the original I grew up with in some way. I certainly think the boat scene was better in the original. Much creepier, haunted me for life.

  • if somehow i got a golden ticket and went to that factory. i would of said AGIAN AGIAN!

  • more elaborate, but no better than the original!

  • poor cow at 1:07 but whip cream lol

  • WHIP CREAM LOL

  • This version I think is better, I am a Burton fan but also, this is the closest to the book!

  • Seen Both and I'm a Tim Butron fan but i preferd the Old one :)

  • the new one -that looks like fun :D

the old one- HOLY SHIT! WTF WONKA~!!

    OLD ONE WINS!!

  • Wow. I'd forgotten just how bad this movie was.

  • Well atleast this is WAY BETTER than the original tunnel scene, this is actually like one of those dark tunnel rides!! 8D

Plus the river looks like REAL chocolate!

  • Man, who would have thought there would ever be a time where the Tim Burton version of something would make MORE sense than the other. All you haters are just judging by nostalgia. This captured the same feelings of suspense/dread as the original WITHOUT being a big-lipped-alligator-moment to accomplish it.

  • @Terastas You are a nostalgia critic fan?

  • I know this is based off the book, but its still far inferior to Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory \.

  • Comment removed

  • I know people make much of the original, but I'd actually much prefer to be on this boat ride. It looks more fun, and there are no chicken heads in sight =)

  • n astalgia anyone? really people, stop comparing this to the original. this is not a remake. its tim burtons OWN take on the story. i actually like this version better than the original. although, the original did have some funny scenes in it.

  • I'm not even gonna front, i loved this movie, but it doesn't touch the original! Gene Wilder can't be topped as Willy Wonka, Johnny Depp is a brilliant actor, but hes no Gene Wilder, and without the "Danger's growing" speech, this scene is nothing. The remake was maybe an 8.5 out of 10, but the original is an 11, possibly a 12.

  • I like the music in this scene.

Hey, wait a minute. Wasn't the music in this scene a little louder? WHO LOWERED THE VOLUME ON THIS SCENE!?

  • I saw the original willy wonka movie when I was 10 (Im 20 now) and after the thrilling boat ride in that movie, I was hoping for another thrilling boat scene when i saw this new willy wonka movie five years ago. needless to say, I was very disappointed with it!!! Gene Wilder > Johnny Depp!!!

  • IT DOESNT MAKE SENSE HOW IT DONT TIP OVER OR NO-ONE FALLS OUT!!!!!!! mind fuck >oO

  • I think the one thing that helps with this scene is that it actually explains what the tunnel is used for. Oh, and BTW, this is NOT a remake of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Tim Burton was doing his OWN take on the BOOK.

  • who can make wonka's character homo and the storyline wack?

the burton man can, the burton man can

  • if this was a ride just water but the same boat

  • Yeah, who needs the awesome music of Danny Elfman and the crazy visuals of Tim Burton?

Where the hell is my pointlessly horrifying wide awake nightmare?

  • @Apollomasque The cow is living in a pointlessly horrifying wide awake nightmare.

  • You know, I did get a little chuckle out of the Hair Cream and Whipped Cream jokes.

  • hey, any disney ppl out there, MAKE THIS A FREAKING RIDE!

  • i like this movie and all, but compared to the original, its a bit of a dissapointment. i like this movie, but not as much as the original though...the only tim burton movie that i would rate three stars

  • Comment removed

  • This new & Improved willy wonka was perfect..just perfect, old one will always be oriqinal..but fn DRY !!!

  • Jesus were is the insanity that willy had? this is a joke in comparison.

  • @kodfisk Cuz it's probably more accurate to the book.

  • This is kind of like a joke compared to the 1971 boat ride. I just watched it again as an adult and the boat ride is still terrifying.

  • All the elves look the same and that what makes this movie suck so much.

  • "whipped cream isn't whipped cream unless it's been whipped with whips. everybody knows that!"

    awesome

  • This is preaty weaksause copared to the Scary/Wierd imiges and a sacary ass fucking poem followed by the most EPIC and funny cream in the original.

  • The way I see it, this Burton film was more accurate to the book, while the original was less accurate. However, I also believe that the changes of the original film made it BETTER than the book, and thus, this Burton film.

  • Johnny/Willy Wonka looks like the only one that's enjoying this boat ride. I would, too!!

  • I like this boat ride better, less fucked up.

  • for heavens sake, this is the most accurate to the book between the two!

  • This one isn't as good as the original

  • This scene kind of demonstrates why the original film was better: the old one had a sense of menace and danger too, but it was more subtle and not as in-your-face as this movie. The old Willy Wonka toed the line between scary and lovable, and that's what made him so interesting.

  • Could everybody stop complaining about the difference between this wonderful dynamic weird scene and your saint original Charlie and the Chocolate Factory?

  • @ChrizL7 It's because nobody ever likes a remake after viewing the original first.

  • @ChrizL7 Amen !

  • what if there was a alternate ending to the original where they were on the boat and the tunnle "SPOILED" the ending and the old ones got replaced with the new ones then willy wonka freaks out

  • Other than the opening and everything this was the first point in the movie when i heard the music and saw the effects i knew it was tim burton's work.

  • Special effects be damned this scene was nothing compared to the original

  • Original's scene was so much more iconic.

"There's no telling where we're going.... or which way the river's flowing...."

  • is wanka supposed to sound like michael jackson in this movie??

  • They really need to stop remaking movies. The original is so much better.

  • It's quite boring in comparison really isnt it?

  • The original is so much better, granted this movie does have some neat parts in it. It just proves that graphics and money will never overcome pure acting and writing talent.

  • I like this scene. It's very well-done. :) I especially like the line Mr. Wonka says to Veruca Salt: "For your information, little girl, whipped cream isn't whipped cream unless it's been whipped with whips. Everyone knows that."

    That's pretty neat! :)

  • the original movie was better in everyway

  • I didn't even know that this was supposed to be the scary tunnel part in this version. The original was better.

  • whiped cow?

  • The original was awful compared to the new one. It was just a creepy, poorly made, annoying, unfinished film. This film is better in every imaginable way.

  • @kibblesays

I guess you are a little kid with no appreciation for the difference between 1970 technology (probably before your birth, and mine) and 2008.

  • @Vazcular Oh believe me I've taken that into account. But I'm also talking about how the candy was beach balls, how Slugworth knew where to be at what time in the world IN ORDER and knew which kid would get which bar. The awful awful awful AWFUL acting of the original. The shitty songs (besides The Candy Man song of course) and the fact that they fly into space and thats the end.

The new movie takes everything the old one was, and makes it even better.

  • @kibblesays

At least there was ZERO CGI in the original. All props which took very hard work to make 70's acting was bad overall, and still is for kids movies today, maybe worse. Gene Wilder is a far better Wonka than Depp (even though how good of an actor Depp is). The movie studios can't seem to get any new ideas. Remake of all these old movies is pathetic.

  • @Vazcular So they couldn't just make a paper mache ball? I've made that in art in elementary school.

Gene Wilder made no sense at all as Willy Wonka. His character was a joke. He did so many unnecessary things (for example: break out into a different language for no reason at all).

The golden goose was dumb as all hell as well.

The boat ride made NO SENSE AT ALL! You see a fucking chickens head get cut off! What the fuck is that all about?!

  • @kibblesays

How old are you? Are you having a hissy fit over your wanna be boyfriend Johnny Depp, geez, grow up.

  • @Vazcular I'm 18. And yeah, calling me gay cause you can't think of anything to say back. Original. That hurts man, real deep.

    Enjoy your shitty movie.

  • @kibblesays The point of Gene Wilder's Willy Wonka was a man playing god in his own factory, masking himself as a tour guide and then punishing the visitors for their greed. Unlike Johnny Depp, who was a goth pedophile with daddy issues. I know being 12 hinders you from understanding creative diversity and deeper messages, but please, don't take it out on other youtubers.

I mean for Christ's sake, every LINE in the original was more well thought out than this "willy wonka" fan fiction.

  • @HardforJesus First of all, Depp's Willy Wonka hated kids. Kinda hard to be a pedophile when you hate kids.

Second, you're telling me the first movie is like based off religious stuff? Wow, then that makes it even more uncreative in my opinion, and that makes me like the second even more. Thanks for pointing that out man.

  • @kibblesays No I didn't say there was a religious message behind it, but you would be stupid enough to think I said that. Gene Wilder's Willy always had the upper hand. If someone asked a stupid question, he'd act like an aggressive smartass. If someone yelled at him, he'd respond with total apathy. His dialogue was that of someone who was thinking 9 steps ahead of the rest of them. But since you can't understand films with any deeper message than "I like the Cure!" I'll leave you be.

  • The original was SO much better!!!

  • I have to admit, the old skool movie had a more thrilling boat ride. But remember, this is a chocolate factory, NOT a creepy amusement park. The old skool boat ride is creepy, but it loses its chocolate factory looks. On the Tim burton version, this may be not creepy, but we can tell this is a chocolate factory. Conclusion? Both have their own power and weakness

  • WILDER IS WONKA!!!!

  • I can't believe there was a comment saying that this film stole things from the original. It was a book!

  • the original is 500 times better

Gene Wilder is the real wonka

  • Wow! Really? What a piece of shit! I cant believe I lost 2 minutes of my life to this crap. Wtf happened to Tim Burton?!

  • I kind of get why some of u thinks the movie from 70's is better, but u gotta agree, when u read the book this is more like how u would picture it. I like this one the best cause its my favorite director and stuff.

  • in the words of Yu Gi Oh: The Abridged Series fans = Willy Wonka got 4Kidz'd

  • @Thief8Bit lmao so true

  • I actually liked this version better...the other one was kinda wierd. Chicken heads getting lobbed off etc. When I first read Roald Dahl's book, this is more how I imagined it.

  • the old one is scarier

  • I appreciate this version for what it was. Same with the original. Am I the only one that finds both of the movies equally entertaining for their own unique reasons?

  • wait a second, this was it?

    WHERES THE SCARY PART??

  • Up your ass, Tim Burton.

  • the original was better cuz it was scary

  • i was on the edge of my seat in this scene, as a kid it was heaps intence 8D

  • Johnny Depp is so good when he's playing some mad insane guy :D. Aaaah he always makes a movie so good.

  • One word: Weird.

  • so this doesnt come close to the original

is any one else with me that johnny depp might as well have spit in gene wilder's face and tim burton might as well have spit in the face of roald dahl? thanks tim for another weird, gothic, terrible movie :) thanks alot :)

  • @Johnny69Jackass It was okay during some parts, but it never truly can live up to the original. Even though it didn't follow the book, it still is (to me, at least) what Roald Dahl would want. I'm only 12, but I still love the original as if I grew up with it. This movie is good still.

  • little girl, whipped cream isn"t whipped unless it's been whipped with whips!

    XD

  • I get much more of a 'I will steal your children' vibe from this Wonka and much less of a 'I will steal your eternal soul and banish you to eternal damnation as my Oompa Loompa chocolate slave' that I got from the original Wonka.

  • Tim Burton should be banned from making shitty remakes.

  • this movie is fabulous b'cuz of johnny deep.. he is sexy!>

  • I really don't like the new version of the boat ride. They didn't even try to make it remotely scary. Not a single person on the boat looks scared. I think the original was way more effective to show how truly crazy Wonka is. It was really when the guests realized that they were probably in over their heads. Haha

  • @izzyrocks101 I think the reason they didn't make it scary because today, when people watch the old film, they get pissed because there is animal violence depicted in it and apparently it scared children. I think they wanted to make it less scary so children would like it more. But I did like the old version.

  • This Boat Ride, compared to the original, feels only like some cheesy amusement park ride, nothing surreal, powerful, or fun about it, especially for as long as it lasts.

  • This boat scene is better than the original, because they are actually MOVING down the tunnel, in the other one they are sort of just in one place with stupid random images on the walls, with feeble attempts to make the boat seem like it was moving. The only good thing about it is Gene Wilder's unnerving speech

  • @EggplantPopolopolis I think you missed the point. They were not moving more than a short distance once they got in the tunnel. It was an illusion designed to mess with them. It showed that Wonka was in control of everything that was happening from the day he put out the tickets, which we would find out at the end of the movie.

  • I prefer the original one... it's more psychedelic!! and Gene Wilder is a genius!!

  • I LOVE THIS PART!!!!

  • its much less exciting than the other film but still good

  • no creepy song? no creepy images on the walls? a 30 second boat ride and then a bunch of weird questions? and they just put dramatic and weird music in the background. i think the original was better... and willy wonka was not so.... scary freaky?

  • @thenextganon There's no earthly way of knowing Which direction we are going There's no knowing where we're rowing Or which way the river's flowing, Is it raining? Is it snowing? Is a hurricane a-blowing? Not a speck of light is showing So the danger must be growing Are the fires of hell a-glowing? Is the grisly reaper mowing? Yes! The danger must be growing. For the rowers keep on rowing And they're certainly not showing Any signs that they are slowing!

    AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

  • @SuperGareth007 Pendulum - Through The Loop

LOVE IT! (I know it's from Gene Wilder!)

  • @thenextganon yes, but if you campare this one with the older one, and than look at the book; the newer one is so much truer to the book!

  • @thenextganon I like this movie because its so much like the book, but there are somethings it just cant match, like the boat ride. I really hate that wonka put lights in the "scary" tunnel.

  • @thenextganon the original willy wonka was scary freaky

  • @thenextganon this 30 second boat ride is my favorite part of the movie. and the creepy images on the walls in the original movie where just that... creepy. also, your calling THIS willy wonka scary and freaky. the willy wonka in the original version started saying this weird-ass chant thing that freaked me the fuck out. but if you like the original version better, then fine.

  • @thenextganon They are performing BDSM on a fucking cow! A fucking... cow! Listen, I don't know what the fuck kind of drugs they had in the 1970's that permitted beloved psychedelia in the original, but if that generation hadn't outlawed it for the rest of us, we'd come up with something more than pseudo-sexual smut performances on farm animals and call it art. We're a generation raised by repressive administrations, and Michael Jackson, what did you expect?! :S

  • The music is epic; however, they built up the scene like it was going to be epic as well with the dialogue. Then it's just...nothing. Kind of dumb.

  • I personally like this scene better than the older one. Mostly because it's very overwhelming and not nearly as scary. As a matter of fact I like this whole movie better than the old one. But that's just my opinion so no nasty replies please!
