  • @exet your *

  • Yeah, I want to know too. Can anyone tell us where this is from? like which series of documentaries?

  • The bombs that were dropped saved lives, they avoided the wholesale invasion of mainland Japan which, by conservative estimates would have resulted in atleast 1.5million US casualties and upwards of 10 million Japanese, BUT is that better for humanity as a whole? We're going to be dealing with the fact any crackpot with enough funding has a good chance at getting one of these now days and into the future.

  • @9inchsradius they could have dropped the bomb just off the sea of japan to demenstrate its power, but general groves want it tested on human beings and that is what is wrong.

  • @exet That wouldn't have done anything; remember it took 2 detonations on the public to force Japan into surrender. They could have surrendered after the first bomb. If blowing up some shoreline or putting on a really impressive light show was going to do anything they wouldn't have been in the situation they were.

  • @9inchsradius It ended the war..desperate times call for desperate measures

  • yeah yeah. fuck america.

  • PROPAGANDA!!!

  • since those bombs were dropped in anger we have not had another world war... surely this can only be a good thing?

  • without the manhattan project,ww2 would have lasted must longer!

  • Thanks for the upload, good stuff.

  • Someone googled how to make a nuke

  • Doing a final paper on the Manhattan Project, you're a lifesaver!

  • The bomb was made for making peace, not war. Just my opinion.

  • @kristianheidi The sad fact is that it had to be built. And we can never get rid of them.

  • @kristianheidi

    I agree with you.

  • time i am, the great destroyer of the worlds, and i have come here to destroy all people, with the exception of you. and all soldiers on both sides will be slain

  • the unleash of pandoras box ,,the start of world war 4

  • Oppenheimer is one Jew that should have been gassed at one of the concentration camps gas chambers!!

  • @freedomseaker1

screw you, he was a brilliant physicist. someone else would have made the atomic bomb, or something that contains radioactive weaponery. wheather if he's a christian, a muslim or anything else.

  • Has anybody out there read Kurt Vonnegut's >>Cat's Cradle<<? Good stuff!

  • i hate this sfm

  • Richard Rhodes ftmfw.

  • Richard Rhodes wrote the Bible of the Manhattan Project.

  • @Tamaslammer

The audio book of Rhodes' Dark Sun is awesome!

Listed to it several times on the road...

    Excellent!

  • good series man, i just started building a offline library, sort of a time capsule in the form of a ext hdd...

  • @smokestakz make sure you don't drop that hard-drive, its not a good feeling loosing data like that.

  • @kelvinhbo Dropping your back up drive will really piss you off!

If you care about your files then three copies is the rule! An off site back-up of the back-up is the final rescue from total disaster e.g. a fire...

  • The need for a Clean Air Act can be explained by looking at those smoke stacks. Having been to smoke school I can tell you the particulates they are spewing unfiltered are still with us in the great recycle; today.

  • They let nazis into country to get the bomb

  • @f328owner Nazis? I don't get it.

  • @icecube45 German scientis that had fled germany during the war they were member of the party

  • @f328owner no no, of course they were not member of the party :) The ones the fled were the Jewish scientists or other scientists, hunted by the party.

  • thats lot money for a bomb :o

  • I absolutely love this subject. Thank you for posting this.

  • 8:18 that would be a fun game of jenga

  • I always wonder what Europe would be like if Hitler had properly predicted the implications of the Atomic Bomb; kept the most brilliant scientists, amassed an arsenal, and [predictably as per his nature] unleashed hell in the Eastern part of his globe in his quest for Aryan dominance.

  • scandalous for Rhodes to call this the greatest tragedy -- just horrible of him

  • Lucky for the U.S that they send B-29 over to bomb Tokyo. If they hadn't, Japan could've obtained A-bomb.

  • should have dropped more nukes over fucking japanese and ended their race once and for all

fucking small dicks losers thought they can mess with US, fuck that shit.

killing all those innocents people at pearl harbor.

  • @Aiko518518 hahahah, ur such a hater... "small dicks losers" hahaha, live and let live i say.

  • In the past I might have flamed you for comments like this. . . but after living in Japan for over 5 years I can understand why USA dropped the A-bomb on them - it was necessary.

Even to this day underneath their guise of politeness, Japanese are quite racist and consider non-Japanese to be lesser people. This is not true of all Japanese (there are some exceptions) but for the most part that is how it is. There is a reason why Chinese and Koreans have an issue with them.

  • @Aiko518518

Yeah, it was necessary, but you're pretty fucking stupid. They attacked a military base and killed predominately soldiers, Their enemy. We attacked a civilian area. Kid of a dick move on our part, but hey, Don't Fuck with America.

  • The Bible prophecies and the signs of apocalypse are all coming true. The end of times is near. Repent for your sins and swear obediance and loyalty to God before It's too late. If you do that, you'll be saved. If you don't, you'll be cast in the fires of hell and you'll be stuck there for all eternity. I am one of God's Watchmen and you have been warned...

  • stop hating falquest

  • FUCK!!!! Anyone on youtube patriotic anymore??? We ended the war. Period. As a former History Major, I studied WW2 to the point where my friend and I outsmarted the Prof. Conspiracy Theorists do some real research for once, and Thank God (if you believe in anything other than your obsession in hating America) that you don't speak Russian, German OR Japanese... Don't FUCK w/ the EAGLE!

  • Now that the cold war is over do we really need them?. Anyone who thinks using a nuke is no big deal should go to Hiroshima.

  • @kellystone84 "Cold war is over"

    HA, your kidding right?

  • crack pots?.....not very smart guy

  • Thanks for posting, I always thought this was one of the better documentaries on the Manhattan project. It's funny seeing General Grove, he was played by Paul Newman in a movie that explored the tension between the General and the scientists at Los Alamos. While Newman is much better looking, he had the General's personality down pat according to people who had been there.

  • At 6:50 it said more than 2,000 "soldiers" were killed but they were seamen not soldiers.

  • @electonicsforless He should have said over 2000 sailors and soldiers. Or technically added airmen and civlians as well. But that would be nitpicking, which if you watch the Discovery and History channels a lot (which obviously we do! ) is a full time occupation.

  • @electonicsforless The casualties at Pear Harbor weren't just Navy personnel. Japanese planes strafed and bombed a variety of targets, including civilian cars in a few instances. Hey, it was war.

  • Great Video, but would have been so much more helpful if it had captions or subtitles for Deaf and Hard of Hearing viewers. YouTube offers uploaders the ability to add captions as of the past couple years, perhaps this could be added?

  • ohh man, thank you for this, now i have a reason to youtube in skool, and can complete my paper

  • 4:38 bit of pen action there, bit of pen action

  • pretty sure dude u saved my ass on my term paper thanks for puttin all this up

  • jornada del muerto means journey of the dead man.

  • it's hard to beleive but that little factory on one of the testing facilities is just foundation concrete on this big hill. i was there today in oak ridge check my airsoft video.

  • Do you have any evidence to back any of this up? if not, then don't waste any body's time speaking nonsense.

  • The Germans never even came close to succeeded in harnessing a nuclear chain reaction.

  • Jeez, I don't know...probably pretty similar to how it looked when America got the bomb, being we did use it "for sure."

And, manking would have been on the moon by 1949 rather than 1969

  • this is from the histroy channel.

  • I like the music in the first 2 minutes. Anyone know where I could get it? ... or mabie where I should start looking?

  • @Aslapacrosstheface look on the internet. jk, check on the history channel site.

  • Great information for my project

  • I think there are two possibilities.

Everyone would've been overcome with terror and surrendered (incredibly unlikely).

OR vast amounts of resources would've been dumped into the Manhattan project, America would've developed as many bombs as possible and saturation bomb Germany with Nukes.

Then Nuclear Winter and the apocalypse.
