Whole Foods is not completely honest. The only "core value" they practice is "maximizing shareholder value" everything else is hot air. when $ is tight they fire whole depts and restaff with people coming in at a lower pay scale.

i worked for them for years at various stores.

Well, It seems to be that Toronto has a Wholefoods. That means I have to drive 12 hours to get REAL food! Why not open one right in Montreal! many grocery stores here dont offer the best food, its a shame that I have to go to one of those to do my weekly groceries. Here's an idea, Whole Foods - how about ending your practice of tossing out truckloads of extraordinarily high quality food daily, into the maw of your trash compactors - simply because the food "isn't up to standards." (Meaning, it may actually look like food, and not a magazine cover).

This video is certainly misleading to say the least. By looking at the bag of groceries displayed in the presentation, we assume that the average American buys unrefined foods - and has a very nutritious diet (Fresh fish, Fresh Bread, Yellow Pepper, Beef Tomato, Pear, Celery, Courgette, and Melon). If the average American is eating all of this good food - how come 64% of the adult population in the US are either overweight or obese? Where are the doughnuts? The hot dogs? The popcorn? The Crisps?

What I am saying is that when it comes to food, the average American doesn't eat this sort of food. Show a melon to the average US citizen - and there is a good chance they won't know what to do with it! When you use words "Americans" and "Food" in the same sentence - images of fresh fruit and vegetables don't spring to mind! Which is a shame, because if Americans where to eat more unrefined foods, they would feel more full because of the high fibre content, and eat (and maybe waste) less food!

Another way that you could look at this video, is the concern over the waste of resources. Why are we producing that we are not going to eat? The same could be said for the billions of dollars US taxpayers (If Obama gets his way) will have to waste on healthcare, treating the millions of obese US citizens in the future. The waste of taxpayers money could be potentially averted, if the US ate better food.

That is the most selfish thing I have ever heard, that you are not willing to be taxed to ensure that everybody in the United States, the "greatest" country in the world, has basic healthcare. You're willing to generalize anybody who gets sick without healthcare as having their own problem not being able to afford it. Of course! Sorry for misinterpreting your post though- When I saw the "waste" of taxpayer dollars on healthcare, I assumed you were against "his" way. That aside, prevention is always something to strive for, but, realistically, we can't rid the country of obesity quite yet, and, in the meantime, they will need healthcare. I understand that obesity is extremely costly in the medical field, and should definitely be prevented, but the obese still need healthcare, so obama's way isn't a waste.

Maybe they are implying that what is food in the video is actually "food" and all that other crap isn't. If they showed all of the processed food in the video, then it would be a video focused on not eating processed food, which was not their message. Also, if they put processed food in the video without addressing how unhealthy they were, thereby focusing on their main message of reducing food waste, they would be implying that processed food is "okay" and accepted.

when it comes to saving food, I blame lack of education in cooking recipes t o create efficient meals with little waste is to blame. Even i'm guilty of wasting ingredients or lacking leftovers. Box meals create lots of waste. Food efficiency is a major problem that needs to be overcome, especially if we are to survive a trip to mars or support a space station. Cmon, our ancestors during the dark ages knew how make food last.

The whole 5% thing works under the assumption that the tyrannical regimes these countries are under would redistribute the food and not keep it for the government and the government's friends.

One way to avoid this is by... Avoiding government agencies when donating food, so 'private endeavors' can deal with the redistribution where possible.
