Hey have you seen the Bio-Regen Unit? It instantly converts food waste to liquid bio-fertilizer and is sold back to farmers. It’s the solution to being sustainable as is a process of food to food! It may be the solution to America's food waste crisis? It is currently being used in food courts and Universities in Australia and Malaysia.
Half a pound every day!? I hope I never meet the person wasting the rest of my share of that.
@DrakeMagnum it isn't really about eating everything on your damn plate. That just makes people fat. It's about not putting so much on your damn plate in the first place.
They forgot the last part. use the money you save to help feed the poor. It's all well and good to stop wasting, but we still need to funnel the resources into the need.
Please see our project to reduce food waste and let us know if you like it ! Just clic on our name below Morphmyfood and select the COMPETITION ENTRY video.
Ugh, I HATE it when people waste food so carelessly >.< Like when I was out having lunch with a 'friend' of mine and big chunks of egg were falling out of his sandwich and when I asked 'aren't you going to eat that?' he said 'why should I?'.
i remember wfm was advised by health department to hire 2 dishwashers for multiple reasons but wfm decided against it so i used to touch clean side plates to put away right after dirty side about 1000 times a night not to mention the floor mat through the dishwasher policy the executive chef tried to stop but didn't get it done. those plates are ok until you get behind the scenes at WFM
Whole Foods is not completely honest. The only "core value" they practice is "maximizing shareholder value" everything else is hot air. when $ is tight they fire whole depts and restaff with people coming in at a lower pay scale.
This number means nothing because it is averaged. it is like total failure itself : example, last year total revenue generated $ billion dollars. there are 300 million Americans, so, each person paid Blah. W-f ,
A great reminder that our actions and decisions, conscious and unconscious, impact the world around us.
Currently, woman and girls make up the vast majority of persons effected by hunger and poverty in the US.
If we spent less on waste, we could improve the well being of girls and the possibilities for woman by spending more on the effort to reduce Threats to Girlhood.
Well, It seems to be that Toronto has a Wholefoods. That means I have to drive 12 hours to get REAL food! Why not open one right in Montreal! many grocery stores here dont offer the best food, its a shame that I have to go to one of those to do my weekly groceries. It would be lovely to have a Wholefoods down here. It saddens me deeply to know that Toronto has a Wholefoods... and what about us. Why do people forget us?
Hey everyone, please keep these facts in mind when anyone ever brings up population control...or the Big AG arguments of engineering food to be more productive...we don't have a productivity problem, we have a utilization problem
impalapez...of couse we do not have a productivity problem.people keep multiplying like rabbits.but the problem with overpopulation is the fight for survival.
Here's an idea, Whole Foods - how about ending your practice of tossing out truckloads of extraordinarily high quality food daily, into the maw of your trash compactors - simply because the food "isn't up to standards." (Meaning, it may actually look like food, and not a magazine cover).
Ever hear of charitable organizations devoted to the hungry?
The chasm between what this company says it's about, and what it does in practice, is astounding. Whole Hypocrisy.
it's kinda funny how people WASTE money by buying more food than what they can eat, and then the government will have to WASTE money on the landfills... Hmm double no - no? :O
This video is certainly misleading to say the least. By looking at the bag of groceries displayed in the presentation, we assume that the average American buys unrefined foods - and has a very nutritious diet (Fresh fish, Fresh Bread, Yellow Pepper, Beef Tomato, Pear, Celery, Courgette, and Melon). If the average American is eating all of this good food - how come 64% of the adult population in the US are either overweight or obese? Where are the doughnuts? The hot dogs? The popcorn? The Crisps?
What I am saying is that when it comes to food, the average American doesn't eat this sort of food. Show a melon to the average US citizen - and there is a good chance they won't know what to do with it! When you use words "Americans" and "Food" in the same sentence - images of fresh fruit and vegetables don't spring to mind! Which is a shame, because if Americans where to eat more unrefined foods, they would feel more full because of the high fibre content, and eat (and maybe waste) less food!
@MattyPeoples haha! you are certainly right but that is not what the video is talking about. The video is talking about food waste, not what type of food people are eating and whether or not it is nutritious. You have a good inquisitive mind, but you missed the mark here :p
Thanks for worrying about the unhealthy eating habits of Americans. Much appreciated.
Another way that you could look at this video, is the concern over the waste of resources. Why are we producing that we are not going to eat? The same could be said for the billions of dollars US taxpayers (If Obama gets his way) will have to waste on healthcare, treating the millions of obese US citizens in the future. The waste of taxpayers money could be potentially averted, if the US ate better food.
You're right, I'm ranting a bit! I look forward to Goods presentation of Obesity in the US.
That is the most selfish thing I have ever heard, that you are not willing to be taxed to ensure that everybody in the United States, the "greatest" country in the world, has basic healthcare. You're willing to generalize anybody who gets sick without healthcare as having their own problem not being able to afford it. I can't believe you'd rather try to change the way the majority of Americans eat just so you won't have to spend a penny on somebody else so they won't die in the meantime.
I didn't say that I wasn't willing to be taxed to ensure basic healthcare. What I did say, was that less of these resources would need to be used, if US citizens had a better lifestyle. I haven't said whether I am for or against universal healthcare at all in my posts - you are reading something that isn't there! Do you think it's right for Americans to poison their bodies everyday with the garbage they eat? What about the right to smoke? Do you agree that prevention is better than cure?
Of course! Sorry for misinterpreting your post though- When I saw the "waste" of taxpayer dollars on healthcare, I assumed you were against "his" way. That aside, prevention is always something to strive for, but, realistically, we can't rid the country of obesity quite yet, and, in the meantime, they will need healthcare. I understand that obesity is extremely costly in the medical field, and should definitely be prevented, but the obese still need healthcare, so obama's way isn't a waste.
blah blah this video is certainly misleading to say the least. By looking at the room displayed in the presentation, we assume that the average American live in blue graph paper houses.
Maybe they are implying that what is food in the video is actually "food" and all that other crap isn't. If they showed all of the processed food in the video, then it would be a video focused on not eating processed food, which was not their message. Also, if they put processed food in the video without addressing how unhealthy they were, thereby focusing on their main message of reducing food waste, they would be implying that processed food is "okay" and accepted.
when it comes to saving food, I blame lack of education in cooking recipes t o create efficient meals with little waste is to blame. Even i'm guilty of wasting ingredients or lacking leftovers. Box meals create lots of waste. Food efficiency is a major problem that needs to be overcome, especially if we are to survive a trip to mars or support a space station. Cmon, our ancestors during the dark ages knew how make food last.
The whole 5% thing works under the assumption that the tyrannical regimes these countries are under would redistribute the food and not keep it for the government and the government's friends.
One way to avoid this is by... Avoiding government agencies when donating food, so 'private endeavors' can deal with the redistribution where possible.
0:49 Tyrannical regimes??? The video is talking about US Americans such as yourself, that are suffering hunger, yes, because USA is the land of the excess.
Agreed, this issue has nothing to do with tyrannical regimes or the redistribution of food, it's to do with Americans buying and wasting food that could be used to feed the 9.6 million Hungry Americans.
The majority of humans who can afford it live off of MUCH more food than they need. We should all cut down and eat only when we need to, not when we want to. If everyone did this then we could feed the entire world.
i like this channel. its actually trying to make a difference in the world instead of entertaining us with crap comedy videos. what a change for the internet...

good point. we should have communism so that YouTube itself itself would be government run, preventing you from posting anything critical in the first place. but at least everyone would have exactly the same amount of wealth. that'd just be great.
Haha you're so ignorant samrusoff it's ridiculous. Because anytime someone admits the flaws of capitalism they MUST be an evil communist who hates America! Thanks for being such a great patriot! Funny how you support concentrated wealth and income in 1% of the population so that they can live in great abundance while millions have barely any, starve and can't afford basic medical services. Oh but I forgot those were the weak ones who don't contribute to society right? so undeserving
Don't see why people are complaining about this video... Even if it doesn't exactly give a way to "solve" hunger it definitely gives you a way to save money and use decaying food for a useful purpose such as growing your own food
The saying "There are people starving somewhere in the world..." is saying that you should be thankful for what you have while you're fortunate and they're less fortunate.
Of course donating canned goods and non-perishable foods to the hungry is good too.
But still, you should be thankful for what you have and not waste any food at all.
