I still don't like the fact Windows 7 isn't 100% backwards compatible, and there are a few things that tick me off about it, but it's definitely the logical upgrade from XP. Vista is too bulky. Vista is what I would call an XP is like an old Ford Mustang, fast but getting on a bit, Vista is like an Alfa Romeo, shiny and good looking but always breaking down, and Windows 7 is like a Ferrari, fast, good looking, but with the odd problem here or there.

@emirates259 To get rid of Linpus, all you do is insert the Windows (or even most distros of Linux or Hackintosh) disk and then there will be a format tool and then you can install onto a clean drive. Is yours a HDD or SSD?

@MANIUX1993 Ah, but it does. By the sounds of it, you upgraded your XP to 7. Bad idea in my opinion. You need a fully fresh install, but you also need to make sure your Acer is spec'd for use with Windows 7. I recommend HDD over SSD, 1gb of RAM, etc etc.

well there are not too many options, the emulators of N64, GBA, & PS2 can run pretty good, games can be sims 2, age of empires from the first one to the mythology titans, also AOE 3 but you have do disable almost every effect and when you are in battle it freeze, starwarsbattlefront, warcraft, like AOE3 the NFS Most Wanted, disabling almost everything but when there is too much traffic can also freeze for seconds, but in games of speed, every second count

@misael1816 tbh, the aspire one graphics card isn't really great for new games. I have played some new games on it, but generally at a lower FPS and quality. You need to consider a slightly better laptop to play really new games ;)

@bebokilla1 Well, I think Windows 7 is a little faster than XP. For certain things XP is more responsive, but Windows 7 on the whole is faster. The reason I use XP still is because I'm using a lot of older software for University, that requires maximum compatibility. Its not that I don't trust Windows 7, its just I need it to be spot on ;-) Maybe i'm being overkill, but should always be safe than sorry, especially when my degree is involved.

i have the 160gb and installed windows 7 ultimate, ran good for about an hour and then it gave me a registry error, i installed 1gb of ram and have not had a problem since. it seemed harder then it really was to upgrade the ram.now it runs very smooth

You can upgrade the aspire one to 1.5gb, and with a 120gb hard drive, possibly increase the paging file to support a slightly lower RAM performance. All in all, I think this little beast runs very well :)

Uh, I couldn't tell you exactly, 6gb I think maybe? I think it depends if you have all the features, such as the DVD Makers etc. But it runs swell on this machine, I would have probably left it on had I been confident in using a BETA. As it is, I'm not, therefore I didn't. Although I have two free versions of Windows 7 Professional (get them through University), so I may pop one of those on.

*sigh* this is not a fake. Let me explain. The lovely GUI boot screen only works at certain resolutions (Google Windows 7, netbook GUI bootloader etc). Ubuntu is good and the Netbook edition runs nicely on this little machine., but trust me, this is 7 and you will NEVER get Windows 7 to boot on a Netbook, like it does on a computer with a larger screen. Comprende? lovely.

Unfortunately the Aspire one runs at a resolution of 1024x600 (which is still pretty crisp clear for a 8.9" - 12" displays) =D

Ubuntu is a b*tch when it comes to Acer computers, had some problems with my aspire 3000, no wifi, and some graphics issues. I finally got Jaunty (9.04) to work the way I want it to.

The D250 has 2GB of RAM (or is it 1.5?), and the N130 has 1GB I believe. They're very close quality wise. Acer make some great laptops in my opinion, very underrated. Samsung too. Look at value for money as well :)

The D250 has and optional 1gb or 2gb of RAM.For me the main priority is to get smooth and stable a Rane Serato scratch live program, running internet, youtube, instant message communicators, all kind of music loop programs, sometimes Quake 3 Arena. I'm only worried about that Rane serato scratch live. I don't know if that netbook can handle that. Big Up!

The reason for that is that the funky new start up screen only works on a resolution of 1024x768 or greater. Tiny netbooks only have a native resolution of 1024x600. Hope this makes sense :-)

That is a good speed, although it does depend on what version of Mac ur using including the minor version upgrades. In my opinion, this video isn't bizarre and nor is my other which shows OS X running on the AspireOne. Its just a video to show that it can be done and to educate those who'd like to do it. Unboxings are pointless, they show nothing. This actually provides somewhat considering doing this with an insight into performance etc.

What the hell are you talking about, it clearly says Windows 7 Ultimate when it says loading desktop :S Also, no sidebar? etc the interface is also a lot different. You might be confused because of the boot screen with the rotating bar, the nice GUI boot screen can only be shown on a certain resolution which is larger than netbook screens :)

I don't understand your question. You can't download games? Of course you can, it is no different to any other desktop computer. If you are saying that you can't run them, well... let me explain, it is a functional graphics card. It isn't very giving when it comes to games (then again, its a Netbook). It will run some games, however, don't expect Crysis or a large game to run particularly smoothly on it.

I too was impressed. It is currently running a dual boot of XP and Mac and it runs Mac OS X really well. In fact, my friend who spent 1200 quid on his MacBook says he should have just done the same thing I did and bought one of these and installed osx86. I will get a video up in the next few days :)

The thing is, although they are less in Ghz, it is not just about cycles anymore. A large proportion is to do with bus (memory/address etc) timings and with hyperthreading technology, the Atom stands out above a lot of its close rivals (the VIA for example)

I am not talking about gigahertz. It's an achitechtural matter. The atom was designed to have a lower power consumption, but in terms of performance is very inferior to celeron (core 2 based) cpus. That is why is amazing that the latest OS of microsoft can be handled by such processors when vista couldn't.

The reason I chose a football game was because I was trying to use a game that was fairly recent, but not too recent as the machine may have struggled. This gave a good representation of how other games of similar quality would perform. Funnily enough, you say that, if I remember rightly (currently its loaded with XP and Mac) the webcam worked alright. But you cant go to my computer and simply click the webcam. its a fucking pain to find it, but I remember using the webcam, so it definitely worked.

Possibly, I've not tried using FAT. The reason I pointed out that I used FAT32 is the fact it would take hours installing Windows XP when it was formatted FAT32. It may be possible to use FAT.

ok, did you format the drive before you made the bootable disk. i don't just mean delete the files off it, i mean a proper format? Also, when you make the bootable disk, make sure you wait until you are prompted to remove it from the drive. Also make sure that you have unplugged other USB devices while you are installing Windows 7 ;)

When you download Windows 7 from Microsoft, it normally comes as an iso. CPL is completely the wrong format for this.
