Electro Voice RE50 N/D-B - Omni-Directional Handheld Dynamic Microphone

I bought this mic a few weeks ago from B&H too, I'm not so sure about it either, it's been about a year since you got yours did you ever "love" it or is it gathering dust, I kind of preferred your old mic and your sm57 here to the RE50 d/b

@musicforindies Honestly I have not used it too much. I just got it for when the situation comes up. It seems a bit thin sounding to me, but out in the field, that's great for cutting wind. I'm not putting too much thought into it. I'll just use it when I need it. I don't want to go through selling it and looking for another. This is an industry standard mic, so it should be just fine.

@musicforindies yeah you're right, I'll hang on to mine too I haven't given it much of a chance but I guess it's an industry standard for a reason.

I think I'll get your Audio Technica AT4053b next.

@musicforindies I use that AT4053b for absolutely everything I do inside! It's a great mic.

i use the re50/b almost daily ( with a g3 bplug) great mic, almost no handling noise.

this is the go to mic for ENG.

I think a Sennheiser MD42 or 46 would be best among all these.

Thanks for the review. I'm wondering how an RE50 or SM57 would sound plugged into a Zoom H1 using an xlr to 1/8 adapter. Would it sound just as good as if they were plugged into the H4n with a normal xlr connection? Any help would be appreciated.

@Stvlen I doubt either the H1 or the H4N would do a dynamic mic (which the RE50 is) justice. These mics need more gain because they are not condenser mics, and the Zoom stuff has noisy pres to begin with. So to get good results you would need to use a preamp. Something that adds gain like the JuicedLink stuff.

@Myleso YOu know, I actually have not even used it once! Just haven't had the occasion. It's a good mic though.
