@series1riv We had the last year that Datsun made them with the long nose and t tops. 2.2l turbo, digi dash, 4 seater. Rare car, can't remember what year it was. It was awesome though. Poor thing died of car cancer :(
@series1riv I remember it having 6-spoke alloys, gray leather buckets and levers on the center console for the back passengers to open the rear windows. It also talked..."parking brake is on...left door is open" Cheezy but cool. Awesome car, and it was beautiful aside from the clear coat oxidizing in some places. I really miss it.
@craftyshredguitartx Actually I drive a BMW 540i. It has a 4.4L V8 so shut your mouth boy. I dont mess with rice burners. And why are you even talkin shit on here? I didnt put the car down, I think its pretty sweet actually, but its so small and light, small tires on the back, that I KNOW it will just spin tires all day long.
@elijahinky Calling the wrong person boy. Everything i drive is better than your bemer. Dont get me wrong i like bmw and i have owned 2, but they both suffered catastrophic engine failure. The 540 is a nice big car but ive never driven one. Cant imagine its too fast though. Does look like a nice car for cruising around town. Damn rappers keep putting shitty rims on them and driving around like jackasses though
@craftyshredguitartx My 540i is a luxury sports car. it does 155 mph governed. would easily do 170+ with out the limiter. it does 0-60 in under 6 seconds and will do the quarter in less then 14. yea it's not a vette, but for a 4door luxury car, It's not slow. Oh and I own a M-Sport, not the regular run of the mill 540i. And not sure what BMW's you have owned, but engine failure is kinda rare actually...change the oil next time and you might have better luck,
@elijahinky I maintain all my cars dude. And i dont see that big hunk of a sedan with a smaller v8 than a shitty mustang going over 145. And i actually DO own a corvette. I could argue car stuff all day but i dont like arguing online about random crap. Its pointless. Take it easy dude
@craftyshredguitartx Do some research on my car and then talk to me, you dont have a clue what youre even talking about...lol... Oh and your corvette weighs almost as much as my car, makes 195-225hp (less then my "hunk of a sedan", 65 hp less) and only makes 250-270 lb-ft of torque. my 540i makes over 320......and you think you can take me.....please dude. I've been into cars ever since I had matchbox, dont try and BS me.
@elijahinky Stop being confrontational man and chill for a sec. I did look up your car. I was uninformed about that model. I was thinking of the not sport version which tops out at 120ish. So yeah your car will hit 150 for sure. Without limiter i dont know exactly. Plus my corvette isn't anywhere near stock. Its making 430 at the wheels with a mildly built 454 and 4 speed. So yes, i would take you all day. Thats all ive got to say man.

I read on CNN's website about a month ago that DELOREAN is talking about bringing back the Solstice! Honestly, and it looks pretty cool, not too many drastic changes from the original. Supposed to be next year or 2012. I have the a dark grey convertible Solstice and LOVE IT! I will never get rid of it. The sweetest ride I've even experienced. Really, really sweet.
that deffinatly has a good V8 rumble... too bad they dont have that as an option from the factory... but on the other side i dont think youd be able to drive it cause everytime you took off you would probly achieve lift lol
Oh fucking HELL. I want something like this. I'm gonna probably have wet dreams about this, just from how it sounds... Imagine that thing lighting up the tires on video. THEN my fantasies are set.
i love that hard top & have tried like hell to find a company that makes one but to no avail. does anyone know how to open the trunk with that top? it doesn't look possible.
basically the solstice is on a modified corvette chasis, the main difference is the body panels and interior, but the car itself is the same, so its closer now to being a corvette with a solstice body on it!
I've got a Sky and want to do this swap on it. Is there a swap kit for the Kappa's to do this cause Mallet is bullshitting making the conversion a limited time thing.
This is what the normal Solstice should be like, but then just like the AC Cobra before it, all that's required is a little vision. Fucking brilliant machine!
a stock solstice would get better lateral skid pad. the big engines ruins the cars good balance weight. that car would not be good for roadcourse to much weight on the front end
I've got a book about this LS7 Sol and they say it's a cornering beast. The car is a little bit heavier (mostly due to the transmission, not the engine*), but they balanced the weight ratio to a near 50/50. It's not as good as the original Solstice for cornering, but its prety near.
I will concede though, there are a lot of 2008 races in which 99's were at the top of C-stock, however, there werent any solstices (solstii?) running.
I'm not talking of modified classes. SCCA C-stock and SSB are all stock classes (to an extent, obviously). Up until the advent of the ZOK Solstices (driven namely by Don Knowles and Andrew Aquilante), the '99 Miata was king of its class. The Sol was actually lobbied against because it was dominating its class by several seconds. C-stock was just recently dominated again by Solstice drivers on the National Tour in Milwaukee (running against Miatas and MX-5s)
lol no i'm not gay. I just like cars that handle good. They are much more fun than a car with 500 hp that cant turn for shit... especially a 500 hp AUTO tranny car. lol This is simply like a cheaper version of a Elise. With harder springs and a bigger tires, it actually handles better than the Elise.
I'd rather swap in a V8 in a miata. Its lighter than the solstice, it handles much better and at last the swap doesn't throw off the weight balance as much because miatas stock engine is heavy as fuk (iron).
Well you call it a chicky car however many have gotten burned by them. They are much better than people give them credit man. I'm serious, you wont love it till you try it and once you're there, you will regret what you've said. After all the car from the factory comes with double wishbone suspension. Even many high performance cars dont have that. Ex: mustangs, older corvettes, grand prixs. etc. I mean those little things are made nice but are often insulted because of their small size
I wont argue that they can handle. I know that thats true. However the styling is too "bubbly" for me. Thats what i was referring to. To be honest i think the same thing about the Solstice. I like the Saturn Sky MUCH better for its angles and lines.
yeah the sky is designed nice :) I used to have a miata and i used to have a veilside body kit on it. I agree its way too round but the body kit took care of that. It was sharp in the front and well everything flowed with it. Search veilside miata or something to see pics.
dude i have the feeling you didnt read anything we wrote. We already established miatas are underpowered from the factory. Second we also established that Miatas are not made for drag racing, they are made for handling. Third, you are talking about stock vehicles, we are talking about modded ones. Where in the racing world do you look for stock vehicles? Please read before you make a fool of your self.
miatas with some harder springs, bigger tires and a stock 302 swap do circles around corvettes, ferarries, porches and whatever else you could think of on the tracks. Look it up. They have hard time holding traction on the drags since they are just so light but on the curves, they go.
The Miata handles better? You're kidding right? Check up on some recent SCCA events. The Solstice has been murdering Miatas since it hit the series. Even those hacks at Car and Driver put the two about dead even.
Where are you looking at? Everywhere i look the miatas are up on top with one or two solstices in between while the rest of them are on the bottom, When in the same class, they are well on top. Couple miatas are even just few seconds slower than the exotics (corvettes, 911s.. etc). Car and driver clearly showed the solstice is a tod faster on the straights but lost on everything else including the fun factor.
The first season the Sol was introduced into the SCCA, it swept its class (C-stock), leaving Miata drivers scratching their heads. I'm not talking about the MX-5s either, with their extra squishy suspension, but rather the 99 Mazdaspeeds (as I'm sure you know, the most potent of the SCCA Miatas). I dont really pay attention to autorag reviews because they're worthless for the most part. Having driven both extensively, Id pick my Solstice any day of the week. And I'm not even talking GXP's here.
dude the "mazdaspeed" is a 4 or 5 psi turboed mx-5 with a different body kit (barely 170 hp) :) not much. If you want true competition, look at the cheap basic versions that have everything replaced. Check out the Flyin' Miata Track Dog for example. :)
Earlier when you posted i looked for results for multiple 08 events and most of the time the Miatas are at the top of its class.
@newby0713 That's because Pontiac wasn't bent on making a supercar that was worth $100,000+. You can take a used Solstice POS with over 100,000 miles for $5,000, dump $80,000 in and have a little fucking rocket that pushes 900HP.
Its not laughable to compare a AC Cobra to the LS7 Solstice. Carroll Shelby started the whole take a small sports car and shove a big engine in it back in 1962. The AC came with a straight six before Shelby put a 260ci Hi-po engine and four speed. Yea performance wise the LS7 Solstice is a lot faster today, but its performance is relative of the Performance the SC Cobra 427 did in the 60's. So I see where Blargs14 is coming from.
"Carroll Shelby started the whole take a small sports car and shove a big engine in it back in 1962."
Wrong, he started the whole, take a European sports car and put an American V8 in it. Sportscars with large engines were around YEARS before the AC Cobra. Hell, a V16 was the norm.
Not by much - the LS7 is a cam-in-block motor, and runs with a dry-sump oiling system, so it is capable of sitting lower in the engine bay, and the fact that the cam's in the block instead of at the heads, pushes the weight to the bottom of the engine. The LS7 is not top-heavy like the DOHC LT5.
Sorry to come off as an ass here, but quite a large number of these comments from a few people are, blatantly retarded. I was going to shoot them all down one-by-one, but youtube keeps comments to 500 characters. This is an awesome car.
Its where the engines make the power, and over what RPM band. A STOCK 7.0LS7 makes over 300 hp from 3500rpm all the way till 7000rpm and the motor doesn't loose steam as it revs. With a high lift cam, this Solstice was pushing 600hp, and the higher the lift, the more duration of a power band there is.
i hope you guys know this car will never have any torque steer. only FWD cars experience it. the front wheels pull to one side or the other during acceleration. it can't happen i you're wheels aren't pulling...they're pushing.
its true it does get old but he has a major piont it will own the solstice with that much horse power. honda is the only company wwith a full working v-tec system in there car. but the point is that we need to comment on the vid not other cars it does get old
This weighs 2880 pounds, not 3300. The LS7 can also easily top 600rwhp with h/c and supporting mods, n/a. Good luck around the nurburgring getting a civic's power-to-weight ratio to match that without getting massive torque steer.
wouldn't Beefier (thicker or hardened) axles and a more rigid engine and trans mount system take care of a vast majority of torque steer........if it were possible to match the power to weight ration reliably?
you should not speak if you dont know anything about cars. If you knew what torque was, you'd shut the hell up. i have a friend with a turbo civic and my big block 496 suburban runs the same ET at the dragstrip we both run 13.3 i run pump gas he runs 100 octane and alcohol injection.
Just do the math. There's this neat thing called power to weight ratio, a 2000ilbs Civic/Exige needs less power of a similiar 3400-3900lbs car. This Solstice with the new Ls7 still portly at +/- 3300lbs. And on a track like Nurburgring its more about a cars balance and suspension setup. The second Fastest official times @ Nurburg ran 7:12 was only 320hp/213 ft-lbs and the fastest was 6:55 and 360hp/200 ft-lbs, so much for "torque" being the deciding factor lol.
ok... tryin to show off with the Power to weight ratio... your cool! haha a solstice only ways 2500lbs... lighter than a vette... its like taking a 572ci and dropping it into a A/C cobra... a completely lightened up honda still weighs 2000lbs or more, not sure but the engine is pathetic.
Wrong, a Solstice is about 25oo pounds and the aluminum LS7 is very light, and it more than makes up for any addition in weight with power. And a 2,000 pound Civic has had weight reduction, lets do some of that on the solstice? Anywho, what does a Civic have to do with this video, why do we always bring up the vs turbo Civic argument? Who actually cares anymore? Its been chewed over too much here on youtube.
A Civc with 366hp like all 4 banger screamer torqueless motors would have to be revving really high to make all that power..and wouldn't have a long power band....And would have no TORQUE to Pound ratio...
An LS7 weighs, fully dressed, roughly 42 pounds more than an LE5 Ecotec 2.4, and roughly 22 pounds more than an LNF Ecotec 2.0. Put the battery in the trunk. Balance restored.
This car, with everything installed as-is, weighs in just under 2880 with a full tank of gas.
SERIOUSLY..... the LS7 is only 42 lbs heavier than an Ecotec?? That's like having you cake and eating it too. does that difference also take into account a fully dressed motor..(accessories)?
You really think a 366 horsepower civic could beat this? This car was displayed at my school, as well as its statistics. This solstice did the 1/4 in 10.9 on street tires, did the slalom at something like 74mph, and stopped from 60mph in 95 feet. It was also faster than almost every other car during the tests at nurburgring. A 366hp civic would have a tough time keeping up with my WS6, much less this little monster.
Another thing; using words like "pwn" makes you look like a child. Grow up.
cd cook..you're not very informed..the sky and solstice are the SAME car rebadged and with a diff face,,,both rear drive on the same platform..they ARE the same thing
I am going to put a hahn 16psi turbo kit on my little 4 banger, which will increase compression and hopefully kill my ecotec just in time for mounting brackets for a crate LS7 to become available... Hehe! I'm dying to do this swap!
The LS7 doesn't weigh too much more than the ecotec in the solstice due to the aluminum head. I don't know the exact difference, but I think a cf hood and moving the battery to the rear would offset the difference pretty well. Also, let's not forget that this platform was designed for the LS7, but got the 2.4 ecotec to keep the price point at around $20k.
Im sure that engine weighs more than the stock engine which would change the handling. Your adding more weight to the front of that car! Your an idiot if you don't think thats going to change the handling of that ride.
im sure the brilliant engineersa at GM have thought about that and changed front and rear spring rates and struts and shocks and im sure theres plenty of aftermarket ways to go as well but yur poiint is valid
You, cdcook22, are an idiot. The Sky and Solstice are the same car, RWD and all. The Sky just has a bit more weight on its chassis due to a few more luxury components. The Solstice is the stripped-down performer of the pair.
Kind of true, just by the looks of the car I could imagine a more polished exhaust note just because the car doesn't look mean, but the engine itself fucking rocks.
about 99% of you have no clue what you're talking about. Yes, that's the 505HP LS7. It gets 26mpg in the vette, btw. Yes that car will trounce a lot of what's out there. As for the GXP comment... I'd rather have 505hp in a car that weighs 2900lbs than 303hp in a car that weighs 3700lbs.
i hope people arent comparing the 350hp to this engine thats rated at 505hp and comes in the vette c6 z06 which has handed pretty much every car its ass in the year of its release and still gets 20mpg.
the saturn sky is better looking tho and Mallett Performance does this swap but not w/ an ls7 they use ls2's and it costs about as much as the car to do the swap!! but this is a hell of a car and the factory suspension on the sky and solstice are perfect for this eng. the car just sticks!!! i werk fo r saturn and ive tried to make this thing get the ass out but it wont
LOL! I was about to post that as well. Mallett performance can squeeze in an LS7 engine in the Solstice/Sky engine bay. It's a tight fit but a 505hp in a <3,000lb. roadster? Hoo-rah!

Triple88a 3 years ago
I'd rather swap in a V8 in a miata. Its lighter than the solstice, it handles much better and at last the swap doesn't throw off the weight balance as much because miatas stock engine is heavy as fuk (iron).
Triple88a 3 years ago
ACK Miata? Foul little chicky car
FieroGTP 3 years ago 2
Well you call it a chicky car however many have gotten burned by them. They are much better than people give them credit man. I'm serious, you wont love it till you try it and once you're there, you will regret what you've said. After all the car from the factory comes with double wishbone suspension. Even many high performance cars dont have that. Ex: mustangs, older corvettes, grand prixs. etc. I mean those little things are made nice but are often insulted because of their small size
Triple88a 3 years ago
I wont argue that they can handle. I know that thats true. However the styling is too "bubbly" for me. Thats what i was referring to. To be honest i think the same thing about the Solstice. I like the Saturn Sky MUCH better for its angles and lines.
FieroGTP 3 years ago
yeah the sky is designed nice :) I used to have a miata and i used to have a veilside body kit on it. I agree its way too round but the body kit took care of that. It was sharp in the front and well everything flowed with it. Search veilside miata or something to see pics.

Mini Cooper S is much better than the miata and the solstice! Its a whole sec. faster then both of them going 0 to 60!
miata:7.9 sec
solstice:7.7 sec
Cooper s:7.0 sec
weeees5 3 years ago
dude i have the feeling you didnt read anything we wrote. We already established miatas are underpowered from the factory. Second we also established that Miatas are not made for drag racing, they are made for handling. Third, you are talking about stock vehicles, we are talking about modded ones. Where in the racing world do you look for stock vehicles? Please read before you make a fool of your self.
Triple88a 3 years ago
true...super light blown 5.0 miata...wasting foxbodies like nothing...just gotta tub out the rear end to fit like....295s..hopefully
grounder1320 3 years ago
miatas with some harder springs, bigger tires and a stock 302 swap do circles around corvettes, ferarries, porches and whatever else you could think of on the tracks. Look it up. They have hard time holding traction on the drags since they are just so light but on the curves, they go.
Triple88a 3 years ago
The Miata handles better? You're kidding right? Check up on some recent SCCA events. The Solstice has been murdering Miatas since it hit the series. Even those hacks at Car and Driver put the two about dead even.
xplosiveplushtoy 3 years ago
Where are you looking at? Everywhere i look the miatas are up on top with one or two solstices in between while the rest of them are on the bottom, When in the same class, they are well on top. Couple miatas are even just few seconds slower than the exotics (corvettes, 911s.. etc). Car and driver clearly showed the solstice is a tod faster on the straights but lost on everything else including the fun factor.
Triple88a 3 years ago
The first season the Sol was introduced into the SCCA, it swept its class (C-stock), leaving Miata drivers scratching their heads. I'm not talking about the MX-5s either, with their extra squishy suspension, but rather the 99 Mazdaspeeds (as I'm sure you know, the most potent of the SCCA Miatas). I dont really pay attention to autorag reviews because they're worthless for the most part. Having driven both extensively, Id pick my Solstice any day of the week. And I'm not even talking GXP's here.
xplosiveplushtoy 3 years ago
SSB*, not C-Stock.
xplosiveplushtoy 3 years ago
dude the "mazdaspeed" is a 4 or 5 psi turboed mx-5 with a different body kit (barely 170 hp) :) not much.

@usageee it could because the engines fit almost perfectly in the car but gm would never sell a car thats faster then the vette for cheaper ;)

RoosterVonDutch 3 years ago 3
"Carroll Shelby started the whole take a small sports car and shove a big engine in it back in 1962."
Wrong, he started the whole, take a European sports car and put an American V8 in it. Sportscars with large engines were around YEARS before the AC Cobra. Hell, a V16 was the norm.

Not by much - the LS7 is a cam-in-block motor, and runs with a dry-sump oiling system, so it is capable of sitting lower in the engine bay, and the fact that the cam's in the block instead of at the heads, pushes the weight to the bottom of the engine. The LS7 is not top-heavy like the DOHC LT5.
lupusshearhart 4 years ago
Sorry to come off as an ass here, but quite a large number of these comments from a few people are, blatantly retarded. I was going to shoot them all down one-by-one, but youtube keeps comments to 500 characters. This is an awesome car.
lupusshearhart 4 years ago
Its not all power to wieght ratio you moron.
Its where the engines make the power, and over what RPM band. A STOCK 7.0LS7 makes over 300 hp from 3500rpm all the way till 7000rpm and the motor doesn't loose steam as it revs. With a high lift cam, this Solstice was pushing 600hp, and the higher the lift, the more duration of a power band there is.
rm125 4 years ago
i hope you guys know this car will never have any torque steer. only FWD cars experience it. the front wheels pull to one side or the other during acceleration. it can't happen i you're wheels aren't pulling...they're pushing.

why does some idiot always have to bring up a the "turbo civic can do better" horsecrap? its getting a little old.
somekidzenvy 4 years ago
its true it does get old but he has a major piont it will own the solstice with that much horse power. honda is the only company wwith a full working v-tec system in there car. but the point is that we need to comment on the vid not other cars it does get old
groundhabit 4 years ago
you need to check out toyota's 2zz buddy...lift is vtec...and yeah this thing is badass
gtrotter07 4 years ago
Dropping a lsd in won't solve the torque steer, it will still have unequal length d-shafts.
NorotorFC 4 years ago
Just drop a lsd in problem solved.
bookoflove512 4 years ago
This weighs 2880 pounds, not 3300. The LS7 can also easily top 600rwhp with h/c and supporting mods, n/a. Good luck around the nurburgring getting a civic's power-to-weight ratio to match that without getting massive torque steer.
NorotorFC 4 years ago
wouldn't Beefier (thicker or hardened) axles and a more rigid engine and trans mount system take care of a vast majority of torque steer........if it were possible to match the power to weight ration reliably?
go LS7
stevef474 4 years ago
you should not speak if you dont know anything about cars. If you knew what torque was, you'd shut the hell up. i have a friend with a turbo civic and my big block 496 suburban runs the same ET at the dragstrip we both run 13.3 i run pump gas he runs 100 octane and alcohol injection.
jrkoff 4 years ago
Just do the math. There's this neat thing called power to weight ratio, a 2000ilbs Civic/Exige needs less power of a similiar 3400-3900lbs car. This Solstice with the new Ls7 still portly at +/- 3300lbs. And on a track like Nurburgring its more about a cars balance and suspension setup. The second Fastest official times @ Nurburg ran 7:12 was only 320hp/213 ft-lbs and the fastest was 6:55 and 360hp/200 ft-lbs, so much for "torque" being the deciding factor lol.
bookoflove512 4 years ago
ok... tryin to show off with the Power to weight ratio... your cool! haha a solstice only ways 2500lbs... lighter than a vette... its like taking a 572ci and dropping it into a A/C cobra... a completely lightened up honda still weighs 2000lbs or more, not sure but the engine is pathetic.
nathanblakeslee 4 years ago
Wrong, a Solstice is about 25oo pounds and the aluminum LS7 is very light, and it more than makes up for any addition in weight with power. And a 2,000 pound Civic has had weight reduction, lets do some of that on the solstice? Anywho, what does a Civic have to do with this video, why do we always bring up the vs turbo Civic argument? Who actually cares anymore? Its been chewed over too much here on youtube.
Tigerasso22 4 years ago
A Civc with 366hp like all 4 banger screamer torqueless motors would have to be revving really high to make all that power..and wouldn't have a long power band....And would have no TORQUE to Pound ratio...
rm125 4 years ago
An LS7 weighs, fully dressed, roughly 42 pounds more than an LE5 Ecotec 2.4, and roughly 22 pounds more than an LNF Ecotec 2.0. Put the battery in the trunk. Balance restored.
This car, with everything installed as-is, weighs in just under 2880 with a full tank of gas.
lupusshearhart 4 years ago
SERIOUSLY..... the LS7 is only 42 lbs heavier than an Ecotec?? That's like having you cake and eating it too. does that difference also take into account a fully dressed motor..(accessories)?
stevef474 4 years ago 3
You really think a 366 horsepower civic could beat this? This car was displayed at my school, as well as its statistics. This solstice did the 1/4 in 10.9 on street tires, did the slalom at something like 74mph, and stopped from 60mph in 95 feet. It was also faster than almost every other car during the tests at nurburgring. A 366hp civic would have a tough time keeping up with my WS6, much less this little monster.
Another thing; using words like "pwn" makes you look like a child. Grow up.

I am going to put a hahn 16psi turbo kit on my little 4 banger, which will increase compression and hopefully kill my ecotec just in time for mounting brackets for a crate LS7 to become available... Hehe! I'm dying to do this swap!
thrillzNOLA 4 years ago
The LS7 doesn't weigh too much more than the ecotec in the solstice due to the aluminum head. I don't know the exact difference, but I think a cf hood and moving the battery to the rear would offset the difference pretty well. Also, let's not forget that this platform was designed for the LS7, but got the 2.4 ecotec to keep the price point at around $20k.
thrillzNOLA 4 years ago
Im sure that engine weighs more than the stock engine which would change the handling. Your adding more weight to the front of that car! Your an idiot if you don't think thats going to change the handling of that ride.
cdcook22 4 years ago
im sure the brilliant engineersa at GM have thought about that and changed front and rear spring rates and struts and shocks and im sure theres plenty of aftermarket ways to go as well but yur poiint is valid

You, cdcook22, are an idiot. The Sky and Solstice are the same car, RWD and all. The Sky just has a bit more weight on its chassis due to a few more luxury components. The Solstice is the stripped-down performer of the pair.

about 99% of you have no clue what you're talking about.
