Glad I got mine out of a Cash for Clunkers Auction. My Explorer only had 90000 miles on it. Paid 200 for it. What sucks is if I ever need a transmission or engine I won't be able to find one. And with the manual in mine I get 19/20 in town and 22/24 highway. These are great trucks.

Seconded. I tried to find a 95-98 Chevy truck,in good condition recently. 3 years ago, there were a lot of choices. Now, nothing. Not even something older than that. Only a small handful OVER 5k, and not one under.

i have a 92 xlt 4x4 and i love it. not necessarily a ford fan but i see tons still out and about and the kbb is still $2000 on the low side.i paid $400.00 for it and have put almost 2000 miles on it in the past few months i have had it with out any problems and it still runs smooth and quiet.the shoddy ford door handles are another story check out my video on the vivitar camera it was taken in the truck

@talldude123 The more mileage an engine has, the longer it will take for it to freeze up, because there will be more room both in the bearings and also in the cylinders. A low mileage engine will seize up almost immediatly.

So they trade it in for a car that is 'green' and get a good $4500 for a down payment, but they cant make the payments and that one-time sweet-deal-of-a-car ends up in a repo yard where I work security. Sir, You did what you had to. I probably could have done what you had to. C4C was a huge waste and I saw many good vehicles in my area get dragged away. I have a 92 F150 with a 5.8 gas loving engine. With all the Grand Cherokees gone to waste its going to be hard to find original parts for my 99 :( Either I'd have to buy direct or travel distances for original parts from scrapyards. i have a 92 xlt 4x4 and i love it. not necessarily a ford fan but i see tons still out and about and the kbb is still $2000 on the low side.i paid $400.00 for it and have put almost 2000 miles on it in the past few months i have had it with out any problems and it still runs smooth and quiet.the shoddy ford door handles are another story check out my video on the vivitar camera it was taken in the truck

Probably lasted so long due to the massive wear with that many miles. Mine is rolling up on 320,000 just uses tranny fluid. Couple quarts a month.

@talldude123 The more mileage an engine has, the longer it will take for it to freeze up, because there will be more room both in the bearings and also in the cylinders. A low mileage engine will seize up almost immediatly.
The whole concept of cash for clunker is insane. But it only goes to prove that the economical center of gravity has shifted from goods to money - and that is very bad news indeed for the environment - and for people of lesser means :(

@abram7117 Agreed. A buddy of mine, constantly went through head gaskets left and right. We had an old school binder full of them, so we would always have a spare gasket. Then he went through I think 3 tranny's in a 2 year period. Until the engine finally threw a rod.
