  • Two of the better exponents of their various brands of guitar, on this planet. Damn! Pity they didn't do more - but then, I never knew they did ANYTHING together, so finding this is a plus.

  • dam, this kicks ass

  • WOWEIE that was bad ass .!!!! keep em coming

  • Although I had the great pleasure of seeing Rory on many occasions, going back to "Taste" days, I have`nt been to a Jack Bruce gig ( yet!) I`ll have to rectify that, hopefully along with Robin Trower!!!

  • damn bass is just killer

  • this is great.....!!!!

  • Yes, the groove comes from within, no doubt...the fretless seems to add an indescribable depth, especially in Jack's capable hands. I saw Cream twice and I just found the ticket stub from the Farewell concert.

  • jack bruce is the shit!

  • RORY AND JACK BRUCE. HOW COOL IS THIS??! And Rory used to play on the same bill with Jack in various bands beginning with Cream's final concert.

Does Jack get that deep groove sound from playing a fretless bass like this? Any bass players who would know? What a funky Scotsman! And Darling Rory, the rocker!

  • @4rainbowed

    the groove comes from within

  • "Key of G"!!

  • excellent

  • Just look at the joyous adoration on the faces of the audience when Jack is singing.

  • @janicewilsonify one of the most iconic voices in rock history, falls into category with jim morrison, robert plant, ian anderson of Tull, and justin hayward of Moody Blues

  • i've said it before and will say it again, thank you TONY! always excellent seeing jack and rory play together*****************************

  • Hmm yes, it makes you wonder if things had panned out a bit differently back around 1970 what may have happened. Nevertheless, the direction Rory took was unique and i'm personally very grateful that I got too see him once.

  • That's where you need Mitch IMO

  • P.S. Also, just by the way: Jack Bruce is an extremely aggressive power bass player (which is something I admire) -- few guitarists can keep up with him.

That he and Rory played so well together is extremely interesting. If Ginger Baker could have overcome his personality, what a power trio they would have been!!!

  • Plus, he does it all fretless, with perfect intonation...

  • Hey, please: if I get to the afterlife, if there is a Heaven, allow me to construct my own favorite power trio.

Guitar: Rory. Bass: Jack. Drums: Ginger.

Miscellaneous stuff: filll in the blanks yourself.

  • what`s all the crap about he`s better than him etc etc just be grateful that you had em, the likes of page, clapton, hendrix, rory, srv, moore,bb, green , young, martyn cause we ain`t replacing them nowadays are we!!!!!! they`re not football teams they are blues musicians, the best of all time!!

  • I think everyone has to wonder after hearing Bruce and Rory play together, who is Eric?

Not trying to be mean, Eric Clapton is great, but Rory freaking blows him away. I love these gigs with him and Jack. They played so excellent together. 10********

  • denisenkev,

I certainly DON'T wonder that. What I wonder, after reading your comments, is WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN SMOKING?

  • Sorry bud, haven't been smoking nothing but my usual bad habit of ciggs. Just gave my opinion that Gallagher and Bruce are better together than Clapton and Bruce. So what have you been smoking? Maybe take a look at some of Rory's works, you might change your mind. If not, hey that's fine, we all have opinions, and yours is fine with me.

    Denise

  • denisenkev,

Not only have I "taken a look at Rory's works," but I saw him twice in concert. Rory at his best was in the same league as Peter Green, Michael Bloomfield, and maybe Mick Taylor as a soloist. He was nowhere near Clapton in his prime of 1966-1972. As for Rory & Jack being better than EC & Jack, I gotta disagree there too. It's more like polite and enjoyable as opposed to live Cream where they were just BATTLING on stage. But yeah, it's ALL opinion. Have you listened to Davey Knowles?

  • Cutglove,

Yes, I think I have heard of Knowles, but refresh my memory and send me some. I tried to send a message but wouldn't go through. And no need to block me, I believe everyone should have their own opinions and yours does not bother me at all. I like Clapton, just not as much as Rory. That's why we're all here for anyway, to share music right?

I have a couple of unknowns (at least to me) that are fantastic I could send back. Send the Knowles, if it is who I think it is, he's great.

  • oh Back Door Slam, yes very good. Subscribe to their music. Knew it sounded familiar.

  • P.S. Jack Bruce is one of the most aggressive bass players in rock history. That he and Rory were able to play together, harmoniously, is a real credit to both of them. What a power trio they could have formed!

  • All the videos I've seen of Jack with Rory are supremely wonderful.

One wonders what they may have been able to do in a genuine power trio situation.

  • the comments are almost as funny as the music is sublime

  • This Other Dude!!! excuse me but as Bruce said'em self that happens to be the great Rory Gallagher.. Not aswell praised or known widely as Clapton but certainly from the same school, his style is far different to Claptons in that he doesn't do long fuckin boring meandering solo's for the sake of it. He's akin to Mark Knopfler in that he uses solo's to compliment the bass line and fill out his songs. Notice how he gladly stands back and works in cooperation to the rest of the musicians.

  • I've heard of Rory Gallagher, but I haven't heard much of his music. I said he wants to be Clapton (in this performance) in that he plays some note-for-note classic EC licks in this performance. But, I think that was the point.. I think they wanted to a Cream-style cover of this classic blues track in this performance.

As for Clapton doing long boring solos for their own sake - I dunno - I think a lot of people enjoy Clapton's soloing style.

  • Awesome!

  • Bruce is no doubt one of the best, fretless is nice.

Jack says Cream was 10 times the band Led Zeppelin is. He says Page is no Clapton. Jack says Led Zeppelin had it easy after Cream and Hendrix built up their audience. Huh?

I'm beginning to take Bakers side, if he had to listen to that kind of trash talk all the time. I hope Jack doesn't consider his voice to challenge Plant's. In fact JPJ is an awesome bass player. Then there's Bonham. Page over Clapton any day.

  • "Jack says Cream was 10 times the band Led Zeppelin is. He says Page is no Clapton. Jack says Led Zeppelin had it easy after Cream and Hendrix built up their audience. Huh?"

What do you mean "huh'"? Bruce is spot on!! He couldn't make it any more clear than that. Cream and the Jeff Beck Group paved the way for Led Zep, creating their audience for them. If Cream had not disbanded, there would have been no room for Zep.

  • you and Bruce are delusional. Led Zeppelin was a Lamborghini going by Cream and Beck like they were a Volkswagon bus in the slow lane.

to say if it weren't for Cream, Zeppelin wouldn't be... just blows me away. it's enough to get you taken to the funny farm.

i, with millions wuz Zeppelin's audience and we couldn't give two flips about Cream.

i have heard it all now.

  • There would have been no Zeppelin but for Cream. Even John Paul Jones has said that. You probably think Page is somehow in a class with Clapton. Page is one of the sloppiest guitarists on the planet. Yes, Cream is much better. It had better musicians and sounded better. Delusional?? You had been read your R&R history before making insane comments like that. Listen to Bruce in this video, he could smoke JPJ, that's why Page asked Jack Bruce to join Zep. in the spring of 1969.

  • ok, well you're serious, the paddy wagon should be there soon, they'll take good care of you.

JPJ saying something nice doesn't constitute he thinks Bruce is better, I've listened to both, i'll take John Paul thank you. Page asked Bruce to join? so what?. Plant wasn't a first choice either, it MEANS nothing. Zeppelin has an archive of unforgettable music, Cream has a couple of jams. Their songs were average, Bruce has been a pain in the ass his whole career. Page smokes Clapton.

  • Wow!!! You know Nothing!! Wrong on every count.

  • To "proferic": Page is one the best guitarists of his era. His "sloppiness" often sounds cool and raw. He's not technically amazing, but that doesn't always matter.

Cream is one of my favorite bands, but after reading you post, I think you need to get your shit together. Good luck dude.

  • My shit is as together as yours. It's a shame you don't get it, especially since your analysis of Bruce's playing is so accurate.

  • JPJ is an amazing multi instrumentalist.. something that fitted perfectly with Zeppelin. Jimmy Page is in the same class as Clapton. Page is an amazing song writer and produced some of the greatest riffs ever. Technically Clapton is superior to Page but who gives a shit. Page is one of the greatest song writers of all time, and I gotta go with Zeppelin being the superior band. And for the people who don't know who Rory Gallagher is.. go kill yourselves.

  • I agree that Jimmy Page is a much better writer. That's his strong suit. Listening to both bands live, I'd have to say that Cream is better.

  • i only realised recently that Taste (the band Rory 'led' in the 60's ) opened for Cream ( Jack's band in the 60's ...duh!!) at the Albert Hall at Cream's very LAST concert !! both brilliant Celtic Blues men .....

  • rory at his best, as usual. no one can top him.

    rip.

  • i don't understand your comment?

  • Bruce recently slammed Zeppelin and Page. Google it.

  • Oh yes I read about that, apparently it was a joke.

  • Who wouldn't, they suck.

  • Well, don't be surprised if Page bitch-slaps Bruce the next time they see each other.

  • Why on earth would he do that? He's a grown up.

  • Bruce was talkin' smack.

  • I think what he was referring to was that Zep ripped off Cream, which was their own fault for breaking up. Cream and Hendrix created the market which Zep capitalized on. He had the opportunity to join Zep., he should have grabbed it when he had the chance.

  • one of THE MOST UNDER RATED / FORGOTTEN guitar 'smiths ' of my lifetime .Just poundin' out tunes on that ratty 'ol 'strat.

Incredible talent - even EVH won't play a slide ...

  • I f**king love Jack Bruce and Rory. 2 of my biggest heroes and 2 of the greatest frontmen ever.

  • No school can teach Jack Bruce's way of playin'

  • No shit!!!!

  • he's one of a kind

  • sorry for the misunderstanding
