  • 4:40 till 5:02: orgasm.

but to hear this beatiful little peace of music it is required to listen to the whole song, of course, damn it, listen to me good!

  • Fuck I miss this song.

  • Butterflies are free to fly... fly away

  • Someone shaved my wife tonight[I didn't noticed who,but don't like slade pussies]E.J.L.Y.

  • lmao

  • Bernie Taupin is a master. What a genius

  • "It's four o' clock in the morning, Damn it!"

  • you know early on I thought "sugarbear"now I know "sould of been'.

  • the best album cover of all time. got it when i was 16 in 1975 im 50 now and still have it. got it on my wall in my man cave. dont laugh

  • @dan12162 i call bullshit. no 50 year old knows and uses the term 'man cave'

  • sugarbear...i love it. lol

  • PINGAS

  • Saw Elton John at Wembley Stadium in I think summer 1975 , Just Fantastic to coin a phrase

also on the bill were Beach Boys and the Eagles real music.

  • My true Heart, at 8 years old. I will forever Love you Lori........

  • Its 4:00 in the morning (EST) DAMMIT!! Listen to me good, I'm sleeping with myself tonight.

  • @HBsongwriter: it was Long John Baldry who reportedly saved Elton. LJB was openly gay back in the 60's when he was having hits (and it was still illegal in England) & Elton was his pianist...he is credited with helping Elton work out his sexuality

  • what an inspirational man elton john is, he is undoubtably one of the greatest musicians that england has ever produced, and bernie taupin is one of the greatest lyricists of all time, the songs seem to relate to people and somehow become stories in our own lives, thanks for the memories elton and bernie

  • Love this song every time, I found this song was written after he tried to commit suicide feeling super depressed with this woman he didn't want to marry after all.

Though the video I saw at his show in Vegas shows him trying to kill himself with his head in the stove. He was super depressed, and would've died if it weren't for Bernie or whoever it was who found him. You could see it in his eyes on album release vids for Captain Fantastic that he was just a depressed wreck.

  • The drum sound on this song is fantastic. It even sounded good on my dads AM radio in the 70s

  • which end of the river is the deep end?? tell me so i can jump in...

  • I will never forget this work. I was a plebe at West Point. I would surreptitously slip to the baggage room in the basement and listen to this on a little cassette player and find some peace. What was I doing here?!! There was some other guy I had displaced who belonged here. He was frustrated. I was going out of my mind here because I had no business here. Trying to get my Father's approval. What a waste of time that was!!! Song is really personal. If you don't like the rant then f**k you.

  • One of THE best Elton John ballads! In fact, one of the best pop ballads ever written period!!!!

  • it's 4:00 in the morning ... DAMMIT

  • Melodia vellutata, canzone d'amore?

  • aw 1970 babe!!! My parents are in thier 80's and when we play the oldies they can remember is song so well.. as a teen I plays this album until the sun warps it!!! aw memories

  • Going to see Elton this summer. And although you can't dispute the man is a genius, I really hope we are treated to his early music of the 70s and early 80s. This was when he aws at his brilliant best. CF&TBDC probably his greatest album Def in my top ten of all time

  • OOOOH MY GOD.

  • Youtube, can we have the music without the comments please?

  • So much vitriolic criticism towards Elton John, whatever his sexuality, his music speaks for its self. I wish I was a penny behind him!!

  • My mother bought this album the year it came out. I spent many hours playing it over and over again. Even though she burned it in 77 or 78 (whichever year she found Gzuz), I never forgot this song.

    Yay, interwebs!

  • @gladiatr72 why the hell did she burn it? because he came out as a bisexual and then as a homosexual?

  • Elton at his best.

  • I wonder if Axl Rose would sound good covering this classic? He said it was this song that made him want to play piano and sing.

  • Who's the drummer?

  • Brings back bittersweet memories

  • First time I heard this song, I was hung-over as hell, trying to make sure the kitchen staff had it ready to go.....

    1987, damn I was a kid...

  • This song has some sort of feel to it.

  • This has the quality of a Beatles song.

  • @klausbluetner1 lol...I hope you mean sound/style, because most of Elton's stuff is of higher "quality" then The Beatles.

  • @wwerulestna Nonetheless the Beatles were one of Elton's major influences!

  • @wwerulestna lol yeah

  • @wwerulestna lol yeah..of course...the stubby fingered piano playing cock lover is awesome..but, alas, better than the stones, the beatles, the floyd, the etc etc....? i beat on the piano too

  • @fuzzypige222 Listen homophobe, The Rolling Stones suck and The Beatles are overrated to hell as well. Pink Floyd should not be grouped in with them as they are in a league of their own, as is Elton John.

  • @wwerulestna love the song, the blue canoe is awesome etc etc Daniel, Mars etc, but the aspect of embarcing a brown dirt cowboy isnt for everyone.....sorry...like brussel sprouts arent for everyone either

  • @wwerulestna If the Rolling Stones suck according to you, and the Beatles are overrated according to you, then frankly, I can say Pink Floyd is pretentious crap and Elton John is an outdated old man.

Don't push your own opinions on artists if you don't want to hear equally ridiculous opinions pushed on the artists you love. No matter how homophobic or stupid they may be.

  • @wwerulestna disagree. big time.

  • WOW!

  • classic.

  • really good song

  • "..sitting like a Princess, perched in your electric chair..." IS one of THE best lines in rock . . .

  • I'm strangled by your haunted social scene.

  • @captainkill1 Probably a lady gaga fan. Someone with absolutely no taste in music.

  • @P2000Camaro . Lady gaga is Elton johns babies god mother. So Elton love gaga. I do too.

  • i hate wankers who write long comments

  • @coolbeans851 lol

  • A timeless classic. (Another) Funny. It held meaning 40 years (Not to mention what wonderful music lyrics). I find myseld in a hurtful place today, and this song Still holds meanings that it did 40 years ago. Amazing. Again, Glad to see Elton came out of his " rough" period, and began living life again, playing music and more. I like his new song with Leon Russel. (If it werent for bad, you'd be good.) Music/ lyrics are can be a very powerful thing.

  • this was one of my sister's favorite songs, she passed away last october but i sit and listen to this and remember her life and what she meant to me. i love you sis, until we meet again, i miss you dearly.

  • This is one of the most beautiful things Elton ever did. I love the arrangement and those background singers bring tears to my eyes.

  • Someone teach today's kids what a "ballad" is...I used to love to couple skate to this song....I feel old...but happier because of it

  • Well I grew up on ELTON ut still would love tohear an album called 1972 ? I think but hey its been 39 years so, but what a great person he is.

    With Love Tom

  • @shanemorrissey6 do you mean 11-17 71? Thats the only album of his with dates or numbers. well, almost. what year was this album you were looking for? 1972?

  • linda canción me facina ...!!!

  • This song reminds me of 7th grade dances 1975 / 1976. Great memories. What a great song.

  • And Tammy... if you see this in some weird way... It's all good.

Haven't seen you in over 20 years ??? Just a bit of nostalgia with a wink and a smile. ;-)

  • When this came out.... this song WOKE ME UP..... Elton saved me.

I was such a wimp... totally whipped... and then it occured to me... WHY does someone ELSE have total control over me ?

Told my first love I just could not deal with her anymore. After the usual few weeks of HEAVY sadness...I WOKE UP !!!

And this was a looooong time ago....... but I remember.

    Thanks Bernie (and Elton). ;-)

  • my friends out there, rollin' round the basement floor...

  • It's 4 o'clock in the morning, damn it, listen to me good..

  • One fof the best songs of all time

  • To me a song is a song when it touches your emotions. This masterpiece cradles them..

  • Boy,that "Brown Dirt Cowboy" has a whole different meaning!

  • who the fuck gave this song thumbs down??? you gotta be shitting me!

  • @captainkill1 I hear you- but captain- don't kill em!

  • @captainkill1 There are d*ckheads out there who log onto a song expecting to see a fancy video. I give thumbs up on the song, not the image. If someone doesn't like a song, why click on and listen / view it? We have better taste than that, only two fools so far!

  • @nairbennyr

    Thank you.

I almost forgot about this response and now discovered it became the most popular one. funny...

  • What a great writing/production creation. Gus Dudgeon is such a loss - as is Dee Murray.

  • es mi cancion favorita me identifico

  • Never truly understood the underlying message, all I know is that it struck a very melodic chord within my soul at the encouragable age of 7 and has never left. I miss those days of this album and of other artists in that era.

  • @earehart1

When I was a kid in '76, I had an Elton magazine. In an interview in the magazine, Elton said Bernie wrote these lyrics about the time Elton was depressed and seriously contemplated suicide by sticking his head in an oven and lighting a match. Elton went on to say that his girlfriend at the time (about 1970) talked him out of it and showed him the importance of his life and what he had to offer the world. I read that from Elton, so it could be true, I suppose. Editors could have lied

  • @sheephider82 Thanks for the info. Bernie Taupin is one of my favorite writers and coincidently this song has pulled me thru some really tough times. I'm sure the info is legit, and even if not, I'm glad he (Elton) chose not to take that road out.

  • Dear 1KSarah,

This song is awesome. But it's funny you "held a girl close" while listening to it, since it is all about a manipulative woman trying to emasculate Elton and take away his music.

  • @spockmonster

It's the atmosphere that counts, silly!

  • All these (mostly) wonderful comments, and no one has mentioned the fact that much of this song is autobiographical. Elton was engaged to a "dominating queen," but a friend talked him out of it. "I would have walked head-on into the deep end of a river ... praying to your stocks and bonds, paying (?) your HP (=High Powered) demands forever..." CAN ANY OF US IMAGINE WHAT THE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY WOULD HAVE MISSED OUT ON IF HE HAD MARRIED AND LEFT HIS MUSIC?!?!?

  • this song is so epic

  • This is beautiful.......

  • this tooooo every one else, didn't forget you...... couldn't figure out where out to place you>>>>>>>>> still love you, everyone that ever touched my life.... cat fights n all.......that made my life where my wut it is today........i wouldn't be who i am today if you weren't a part of my "LIVE" wut more is there to say..........@----{[{[}]}]}]>>>>

  • What a voice! Youthfull adolescence tinged with the cusp of experience. Takes me back to the time befor the grumpy ol man, befor the responsability, befor the debt there was Elton and there was music in the world and anything seemed possible. It was and is more valuable than you can imagine.........

  • This is an amazingly beautiful song. The lyrics are spectacular, his struggling with his overwhelming emotions.

  • I was doing some late evening shopping last December. I was walking across the carpark with my overloaded trolley when suddenly the bread fell off the top and landed in the path of an oncoming car. A quicked witted shopper quickly grabbed it before it was squashed under the wheels, and gave it back to me. He then walked off before I could say thanks. I shouted to the other shoppers, "Someone saved my loaf tonight !" They began applauding at this heroic act. The guy never looked around.

  • When I look back on that period I now realize how much Elton's music shaped my fearful, formative and uncertain transition into adolescence. His music will always hold a special place in my heart and soul. I always founds his music to be a sanctuary when things got rough. Thank you for that.

  • Este album me trae tantos buenos recuerdos, me transporta a otra epoca y eso me hace feliz

This album brings back so many fond memories, transporting me to another era and that makes me happy

  • gives me goose bumps hearing this :)

  • god bless those stupid brits and their fç%king music.

  • BOLLOCKS Stupid Swiss. The only good thing to come from your stupid country is army Knives and chocolate.

  • @Kokoots wrong! what about assisted suicide?

  • I was given this album when I was 11 in 1976... It changed my life.

  • Elton is a good boy.

  • This song deserves a 1000 comments not 15.

Used to be one of the favorites in my high school disco.

My heart still skips a pulse when I hear it.

I used to hold a girl very close to my chest, dancing very tight together at 2 o'clock in the night, feeling the melody of the song as one.

It was dramatic, it was romantic, it was deep, it was everything a 17 year old boy could have hoped for. Lucky me.

I miss those days that are now far away, shining like diamonds through the mist of the past.

  • @1KSarah I totally agree!

  • @1KSarah I love this song it takes me back to the wonderful days of Junior High, I love the comment above mine I can so relate to what he is saying, I remember getting my first Captain Fantastic album it was da bomb back then, now I need to go find the cd, however, these songs really do make you miss those days

  • @1KSarah I totally relate to your comment, I do get a little teary eyed missing those days

  • @1KSarah you can relive them watching the 70's Show ;D

  • @1KSarah wow bro..thats deep..this song also brings back memories for me too...cheers

  • @troy42100

  • OMG!!! 7th grade, growing pains and growing up...He was EVERYWHERE and EVERYTHING!

  • a gem among musical jewels, elton john is amazing and so is this album! 1975 was such a good year for albums

  • prima donna lord you really should have been there ... the line reminds me of my friend donna who used to smirk at this line ... she died in a head on collision when she was 20 ... if she was alive today we'd smoking a doobie getting chinkified painting on my wall.
