@solarikrobert honestly, cliff is my favorite, and i love pantera, exodus and megadeth, but cliff is the only one of that is dead that i can call my favorite at what they did.
@337camo That's the same thing I'm experiencing, after having learned a bunch of Metallica songs etc. by ear or from tabs years ago. Now that the bass-only tracks are out, I find out I've been playing them wrong.
@IsThis4Entertainment That's a cop-out... I wasn't consciously reinterpreting them; I thought I was playing them the same way they were on the album, but I wasn't, ergo I was playing them wrong. "I was just playing them my way" sounds like something a bassist with an ego would say.
Stop sticking Cliff Burton in these comments, I bet even he wouldnt care who is the best. Metalheads are always like a big family, they never call themselves or want to be best, aiming to be best doesn't make you like that.
I doubt Cliff meant that literally. I'm sure he just meant that as, "I'm going to try as hard as I possibly can in order to honor my brother's memory," not "I want to become the undisputed best and I hope that long after my ashes are scattered, my fans will still belittle anyone who doesn't think I was!"
I like that David Ellefson is much more ordered than cliff. Cliff tries to hit too many notes too fill up the song, david does great and shreads his bass when he has to.
@AnaheimDucks1993 I think Ellefson gets shoved in the back of the band more because Dave is a shredder on the guitar, which makes it harder for others to get more attention. Ellefson also used a pick, and cliff doesnt. They use different styles...
Burton was also a rhythm bass player, but I find it less easy to do Burtons stuff, while Ellefson has easier stuff. They are both easy, but Ellefson uses easier sounds and less complicated lines (my opinion.)
@fearcross lol are you kidding? Cliff was just a rhythm bassist? thats why his style is known as lead bass, no clue why must be all the bass solo's and fills he has in his stuff songs. Look at Orion, Call of Ktulu, and the killer speed in battery fight fire with fire and master of puppets. Cliff studied Classical music and composed his riffs according to those. I still think Cliff is a better bassist than Ellefson because of all the influence he has in ever song, and all the fills
It's kinda sad...you drop an f bomb and they slap that Parental Advisory Explicit Content Label on there...Seriously folks the kids hear their own parents drop more f bombs than the artist does on the record.
@Koffe113 That specific intro riff mightv'e been written by Mustaine, but the bass track as a whole is very strong, Ellefson has a very cool style and tone.
So fucking fun to play :)
