I saw it, loved it. Would see again. It seemed clearly an allegory for US as world police and the ingratitude that role engenders and the frequent futility of its outcome. Ed Harris has denied any such meaning but the ending reinforces the allegory intrepretation, imo.

I don't know if you should compare them, just because they both played out in the old west. I think this movie was alot about Ed Harris love for Zellweger and how it inflicted upon his work as a marshal and his comradeship with Viggo. Both movies were great, this one I loved because it felt more "real" than most old west movies =)

I saw last week & was just slightly disappointed at it but now I actually realise it was actually a very good movie. Some critic was spot on when he said Mortensen 'just oozes coolness'. There are also some fantastic lines - like the one where the rich fat chaps in the tailored suits complain of Irons & his men 'feeding off the town like coyotes off a carcass' to which Harris replies, 'Hell, anything that eats meat feeds off a carcass' and gives them this 'I hate rich fucks' stare - brilliant!

The storyline is not even interesting. I don't even think there is one main storyline. I think there are several mini-storylines. One ends without finishing the story and the other starts right after that one and so on.
