Now, if the UK became a Republic - that's equally stupid. There are countries which history and culture set themselves as Republics and Monarchies. For example, I see both Portugal and Spain, Germany and Austria as Monarchies. France and Greece, Italy and Russia as Republics. As simple as that.

@heathey2 It was a gift to the US in solidarity over 9/11. The US anthem was played by the queens guard outside Buckingham Palace. The only other anthem to be played apart from our own. Many turned out to show they respect. She even mention it in her xmas speech. Still every year we have have memorial for the dead. Even during the BP, many students offered to go out & help with the clean up. Yet Obama kept calling it British Petroleum, which ceased in the 90s. Many Brits see him as anti British.

@lordofwrath88 In the British system, the Queen is head of state and the PM is head of government. Here in the US, the president fills both roles.
Basically, the Queen's role is to lead the nation while the government handles the administration. Most of her duties are basically ceremonial but there's a lot that rests on her performance, so she's not just for show.

The military is under her command thats why all her children have to have miltary roles. If US attack Canada & canads ask for the support of the queen she can order the miltary because canada is under the british commonwealth US is only an allied.

The queens dont receive this as their r women not fight (old fashion). When the US attacked us the king had 2 stay in Britain because we were attacked by France & Spain due to kicking out the catholic. The ruling monarchy cant leave the country in time of war, The king stayed in London during WW2.

The queen is well respected over the world, she shown great compassion to the american who were in the UK on 9/11 she got the queens guard to play the US anthem for them this as nver been done before.
