  • Saw them here in Colorado two days in a row...once at the Black Sheep then at Mishawaka....got kicked out of the Black Sheep for smoking a cigarette....fuck the Black Sheep though, I wouldn't piss on fire to put it out if it were burning.

  • saw them at city arts. fucking epic

  • I'm not feeling this at all. Sorry. Zzzzzz...

  • "After a while you know their style and that's enough to know they suck"

reminds me of all the times I've tried to learn and relate to the ways of popular and/or interesting people. now i just realize most people do indeed suck and what i thought was 'cool' turned out to be crap. this music is all the cool i need :)

  • YEAH FOR IDAHO!

  • you guys are crazy...best band in the world? Not takin any credit away from them, cause they r awesome, but the guitar whailin is very uh...radiohead esque

  • The vocalist sounds an awful lot like Ben Gibbard from some of Death Cab's older stuff. Not so much in this performance, but he really does in studio.

  • If they sounded like death cab they wouldn't have any fans(death cab sucks)

  • He does.

And you have a very interesting perspective on music, if you like really indie music but don't like Death Cab.

  • Bull shit. First of all, "indie" is a stupid category; nobody should listen to artists just because they aren't signed to a label. Two different bands could be "independent" and sound nothing alike or even use the same song structure. Secondly, just because a person likes one so called "indie" band doesn't mean they have to like all "indie" bands. Thirldy, Built To Spill is signed to Warner Bros. and Death Cab is signed to Atlantic; you can't even call them indie.

  • Haha, none of that matters to me. Death Cab is just a good band.

And they're pretty weird for a mainstream band.

And "indie" is often associated with "weird".

  • well have fun putting your music into genres.

  • Lol, I just said none of that matters. I just like Death Cab.

And this guy sounds like Ben Gibbard, imo.

The band sounds nothing like Death Cab.

  • genres and labels help narrow it down. Im guaranteed to not hear any music-by-numbers crap if i type in indie...experimental, low fi, shoe gaze, alternative and rock are good too.

  • Just in case you didn't know, BTS came before DCFC. Ben Gibbard has stated BTS as one of his influences.

  • That explains it.

This band is pretty awesome. Especially if you're really into guitars.

  • I absolutely how the guitars are layered in this song!

  • waaaay before

  • radiohead blows

  • So many amazing guitar parts to this track. You don't hear stuff like this much anymore... even on college radio.

  • I love the guitar in the beginning so much. Favorite part of the song, and this is my favorite song they played live.

  • I love built to spill, if these guys were good looking they'd be the biggest band in the world. But they're not and that what makes them great. They don't care and its a kind of child-like naivety almost that comes across in their appearance and the music which just makes them so endearing. Doug Martsch is, in fact, a genius.

  • Yeah! This makes me want to do jumping jacks.

  • Incredible.

  • Who is playing the red SG?

  • that's Jim Roth. He's been a touring guitarist for years and and official member since You in Reverse.

  • thanks

  • Awesome band. Three guitars!!! I've seen them a few times. Always fun. Gotta love that old red Gibson SG Jr. Thanks for posting.

  • I wouldn't say indie/alternative stuff is exactly popular among teenagers. It's more popular among college students though

  • I'm 13 and I love this stuff. This, Modest Mouse, Middle Distance Runner, some Queens of the Stone Age type stuff.

  • Dido!

    :D

  • "college rock" hehehehe.

it don't matter much the age, especially outside the usa, where theren't many fans of crap stuff like staind and other active rock bullshit.

  • I'm 14 and I also love it as well. The wombats, The cribs, Vampire Weekened and all that jazz = ]

  • One of the best songs ever

  • Amazing. Anyone find any other good quality live performances of BTS? This is one of the only ones i could find.

  • this song is really cool

im an indie kid and it pisses me off when they compare indie to emo >P

  • fucking love them

  • Doug, best strat player of the last 20 years?

  • Pretty great, but you can't forget Mark Knoppfler (or however that's spelled) of Dire Straits.

  • David Gilmour is the best strat player over the last 20 years. Don't give mediocre guitarist credit they do not deserve because you like the band a lot.

  • well, I guess that settles that!

You could take some of your own advice, but it seems you're beyond hope...

  • Hey, I think David Gilmour is great but hes had his time. Doug has a very interesting style I don't think a lot of people can imitate

  • xAnycolouryoulikex and DeathBySitar, can you guys both shut the fuck up? I'm tired of watching music videos with people trying to argue who the "best" guitarist is. Anyways, you guys are comparing two completely different guitar styles. Wait here's a better idea, argue which is better, a pencil or a pen.

  • Perhaps i shouldn't have been so bold as to say hands down that David Gilmour is the best guitarist ever. I just want people to understand there is awesome shit out there to be heard that isn't indie rock. And people that listen to indie rock like BTS, the Shins, DCFC think they're are cool because they listen to that stuff and its currently popular among teenagers and those people refuse other types of music and think their's is the elite.

P.S. pencil its better for the enviroment

  • I feel bad for those people.

  • yesterday they have done one of the best gig seen in rome, and they've played a paper planes cover from female rapper m.i.a.!

    Love this band.

  • Seriously? Thats fucking awesome I'd love to see that!

  • Not from Boise, from Twin Falls... they built their audience in Boise though... playing at the Neurolux Lounge

  • The question was asked where are they from not where is Doug Martsch from. Doug had Warner build him a studio in his house in the north end, more than 10 years ago.

  • i think seattle... maybe idaho

  • Classic BTS here. I'm not too crazy about their last couple efforts, but still a great band, especially live.

  • Boise Idaho! They have been signed to Warner for 4+ albums and over 10 years. In the mid to lat 90's Modest Mouse used to open for them. Doug Martch the front man and creator of the band has been a pioneer in the music industry for 25 years. By my count the most talented musician/songwriter of our time!

  • Does anyone know where this band are from and how big are they

  • Boise Idaho! They have been signed to Warner for 4+ albums and over 10 years. In the mid to lat 90's Modest Mouse used to open for them. Doug Martch the front man and creator of the band has been a pioneer in the music industry for 25 years. By my count the most talented musician/songwriter of our time!

  • It's spelled Doug Martsch

  • Pavement and Built to Spill are two of my favorite bands! Love the bass line in Stop The Show

  • Vaya cancionzaca!!

  • Way better than the recorded version IMHO - really great live sound. Most underrated band ever - after Polvo, that is.

  • that was freaky. the computer asked me if i was gay.

  • They shore gotta lotta geetars in this here band

  • who is the guitar player in the middle? is he no longer in the band, it seems like he is the sound that is now missing on thier newer album

  • he is still in the band.... its brett netson

  • how did i not know about this band sooner?!?!?!

    they're fucking awesome!!!

  • "and after a while you learn to smile" does anybody know if that's a Beatles' reference from their song 'good morning, good morning"?

  • i'm seeing these guys live with meat puppets and dinosaur jr.

  • yeah i think im going to go to that too... id be stupid not to...

  • FREEBIRD!

  • damn, i wish they would have played this when i just recently saw them in Minnesota....I recorded the whole set, if anyone sees this and loves this band...check out my videos too, i think they came out pretty great, considering the camcroder that i used....check em out!!!!

  • That's funny, I actually have a recording of BTS playing Freebird! It's better than the original!

  • fuckin awsome

  • more people should like this band.

  • This is one of the best videos I have ever seen.

  • Uh huh. Lennonism failed to accomplish a single damn thing 40 years ago, in addition to still being a pile of bullshit. Stop polluting my internet.

  • Divided Love...get out of here!!!!

  • and this relates to built to spill how?

  • Makes us horny, i mean, makes me horny.

  • I just saw them last night, but they weren't as into the show as they are here. You could tell they really hated the crowed they were playing for, and for a good reason too, everyone was yelling out "CAR!!" the drunken bastards...

  • I had that exact same experience a few months ago. i felt bad for doug

  • ahha I saw them at ATP and I was shouting that! After a while I was shouting freebird as it was obvious they weren't going to play anything I was shouting!

  • They probably couldnt hear you over the 20 other people shouting "freebird". Try shouting "SLAYER!" next time.

  • nah people don't do that in England, no one gets the joke really. Freebird isn't an institution in and of itself like it is in the US.

  • Seriously? That is ALL people do here. Any time my band ever played all we heard was "FREEBIRD!" and "SLAYER!" I can't imagine a world where that doesnt exist...but it sounds lovely.

  • hey isnt the long haired dude playing 2nd lead from caustic resin?

  • yes, they play together a lot...

  • built to spill and caustic resin are both from boise and they do alot of stuff together but I think he is with bts full time now

  • The look on Doug's face from 4:04 to 4:07 is so fucking intense.....I've watched this countless times and it catches me off-guard each time.

  • Feuer & Eis

  • Liked the studio intro better, but this is pretty epic for a live show

  • Really well done video.

    Thanks!

  • God i love BTS!!!!!!!

  • Yes, Doug Marsch!

    <3!

  • this is a great performance.

  • I'm going to see em live saturday at the egyptian theatre. Someone lives, lived in twin falls Idaho and they're around Boise all the time. They have quite a following here.

  • love the name

  • dummy he lived in boise

  • no one i know have even heard of this band here in the u.k. one of the best bands about!!!! fookin love em

  • yeah they aint too "Popular" in the us eitha.

  • I love this song. Perfection. real music!

  • They played this as the encore last time I saw them in Atlanta. Greatest show ever!

  • built to spill kicks ass!!

  • Probably my favourite album/song...

  • what album is this on?

  • Perfect from now on

...man that title really fits^^...it is perfect!

  • Holy smokes ALL over the place. Can't wait to see them again

  • Holy smokes... flawless! I can't believe a song like that could be pulled off live so perfectly. Hat's off.

  • built to spill is a great band i wish they would play more then once every 2 years in ther home town

  • I FRICKIN' LOVE YOU, DOUG!

  • You can see doug pretty much laugh at how perfect the slide/chorus was..Awesome stuff!

  • i fucking love this song

  • built to spill rules so hard.

  • awesome... most definately my fav BTS song

  • mmmm doug is amazing

  • Thankyou, thankyou.

  • I like this video but on Perfect From Now On this song has a 2 minute guitar intro. Does anyone know why they never play the intro live? I have their live album and the intro is absent on that version of this song too. I think that intro is cool, it's really a shame.

  • i have a ton of live shows of BTS and they play the intro sometimes. if you can download torrents, look for their shows and you can hear them play this and the intro

  • do you happen to know where i could get a bts dvd? maybe a torrent or a b&p?

  • AMAZING!

  • This is such a fantatic song, and they really play the shit out of it here. Thanks for sharing it!

  • Absolutely freakin' awesome. I saw these guys live about 10 months ago. I am determined that there is noone that could put on a show like them.

  • is that from 'reverb' on hbo a few years ago??

  • Yeah, this was from HBO's Reverb, filmed at The Ritz in NYC back in 1999.

  • Oops, I meant Irving Plaza!
