@geekforlifevandc Yes, but back in the day, here in europe, there were processoeres from AMD, IBM, an several otheres had made clones of this. But there were not as good as the intel, the Intel processer was the one to get. I even cloced my first 8088 from 4,77 to 12mhz without problems.
These are packed in almost the same way as surplus Soviet ammunition was packed - boxes look alike and are paper-wrapped in a similar fashion. Not much more was required I suppose.
Now, do you have a system to use the CPU in? Would love to see that.
As I understand there are literally dozens of these things floating around in the former USSR- many of them were made during the last years of the Soviet Union.
I know that in slovakia which was a part of USSR had tesla brand which made processors and other electronic components. They would reverse engineer cpus from USA and remake them.
I dont understand this, I read somewhere that the soviets never had any silicon chip manufacturing plants and had to import even basic LED displays and electronic chips for their pocket calculators.
I wonder if the CPU dies of the 8088 and the Soviet clone are similar or did they just reverse engineer the instruction set and electrical characteristics.
The logo shown is that of Kvazar (Quasar) which was based in Kiev. These chips were used quite often in government/military hardware so they had to be reliable.
Read up on the history. When East Germany was formed, Carl Zeiss' company was divided between West and East. Some time after the wall fell, the companies were basically reunited.
Thus, the East German portion of the company, when it existed, was per definition an East Germany company.
I always thought the Soviet clones looked so nice. They often had interesting packaging or designs.
