wait it said the powermac g3 is up to twice as fast, so does that mean its a turtle. Well wheres the freaking HARE!?!! oh wait its the i7 rig i got standing next to me its up to 40 times as fast lol
There was a reason why AIM PowerPC chips were better than Intel chips back then, and it was the short pipelines inside the RISC architecture of the AIM chips, which allowed it to move data faster than the CISC chips, in this case Intel's case. This was an important advertisement, because it helped Apple show the public what was the MEGAHERTZ MYTH. Since then, we learned it isn't all about Mhz, but architecture efficiency. That's why a G3 was even better than a Pentium 4, and same with G4 and G5.
@andydamg Enthusiast PCs have GTX 590 SLI. It blows Apple's socks off. And it's quite funny that Apples makes a campain against Intel then a few years later a campain with Intel. And finally they talked about making their own processors...
they did made apple a4 which is based on arm cortex a8 architecture, however it's performance is so weak than even atom/pentium 4 can stomp it like garbage that they can't port it on desktop department and only stays on embedded/tablet platform like ipad/iphone. if they want to confront intel, they'd have to to bring something to surpass 5 years old conroe first. however i don't think they can even beat a netburst pentium 4 or atom at the moment...
Apple, the most assholish company ever. First, they say the PowerPC is faster than the Pentium. And now they're using the Core processors in their computers. Have you ever realized that they never use the Celeron or Pentium processors in their product lines? I guess they still hate the Pentium and maybe Celeron.
More correctly, they hate the netburst marchitecture. Doesn't matter whether Intel called it pentium or celeron, you simply couldn't put it in a laptop.
Also, Linux is good for nerds who want to compile their kernel in order to get a fucking mouse working.
I run both Windows XP (waiting for Win7) and Snow Leopard on my Core 2 Duo Mac and both work flawlessly. Linux runs 80 percent of the world's servers but to suggest it's a viable home user OS is retarded.
You want power, the only commercially available desktop with a Dual i7 (that's 8-cores) motherboard is the Mac Pro.
This was a decade ago, when PowerPC did more work with less clock cycles. To say that nothing has changed is disingenuous.
The G4 was a disaster from the start and Motorola could not properly support them, by the time of the G5, PowerPC had become what Intel was scorned for, a power-hungry liquid-cooled monster than needed to be properly coded for to take advantage of it's power. There was no future for the G5 in a laptop so Apple wisely switched to Intel's new Core technology.
@diegodaudt The problem is that the AIM alliance was crumbling down, both IBM and Motorola sold their shares inside the PowerPC project leaving Apple almost on a dead end, and the only choice by then was Intel since they were pulling out the Core architecture that saved the brand.
Plus, PowerPC stopped being a desktop CPU back then and became a server PC, just like the all-new POWER architecture is right now. And with the dual-boot feature, Apple also admitted that Windows was beating MacOS.
Linux is also good for making your own server at home. ;') Like if you have a old machine (Or a new one :'P) You can use linux and make a Damned good Home Server. xD
1: Grammar issues. 2: Of course they only say because of OS. Because they have the better processors, faster memory, and better graphics cards they want people to find out about in them ^_^.

given that, i feel apple was right to burn intel for using the mhz myth at the time.
Agreed, However I'm not sure what you're talking about when you say core 1/2's had a faster bus then the G5's. If I remember correctly the Power Mac G5 had a 1GHz fsb.
Since Snow Leopard is going to be x86 only I'll probably run it off of a PC rather then buy a new Mac.
Some of the core 2 series had 1333MHz buses and they had a littler lower memory latency but the real help was the huge cache.
IBM crippled the G5 with only 512K cache to prevent them from encroaching on their power 5 based servers though if the G5 had a 4 meg cache and a slightly faster bus it still would beat Core.
Lol, I have 2GHz Northwoord Celeron :P:P Once had a Mac G4, that one was faster then the Celeron 1.7GHz wich I had then, so... G5 is the fastest chip in the world...
lol yeah that has to be a lot faster then a intel Core 2 quad running at 1066Mhz FSB at a clock of 3.2.Ghz. The celeron is a piece of crap and a glowing reason as to why clock speed is a poor basis for overall CPU speed, BUT the Mac based processors were no faster, they simply ran a more feature dry, efficient OS.
The Apple/Windows debate is on every page like this and I don't pretend to think I am going to sway a Mac guy any more then I can sway an iPod guy. You pay a lot for a stylish product that offers severely stunted functionality in leu of a slightly more needy OS and you need to justify your purchase. Apple makes poor products and it silences its users that do anything other then praise them.
AJCOMIX: What you are reffering to is a result of the inefficiency of System Busses and external- to- die chip memory allocation, not the actual inherent speeds of the chips themselves, but, sadly, you are correct. The inefficiency of current intel architechture means that the seperation = increased efficiency, despite increased latency. Its a very sad paradox that should not exist at our level of technology.
this is no different than what car companies do compare their new gen car to the competators old gen car.
Ive used both systems, and you will never be able to take full advantage of an apples power while the big advantage of a pc is COMPATABLITY, COMPATABLITY, COMPATABILITY
old PCs can find a new life when they are stripped, paired out parts and can be recustomized as a second supporting pc.
More compatible with what? Windows? Didn't you just defeat your own argument? Macs become more compatible by running Windows not by being able to run windows and it still won't change the fact that I have nowhere to stick my new video card into on that shiny new mac.
I was pretty sure that like 90 percent of macs use onboard video chipsets. On my PC I have a thing called PCI Xpress 16x and it makes AGP look like the whiny bitch that it is. Good luck finding drivers for that video card you put in that AGP slot.
"macs are actually more compatible . . . [because] a PC can not run OS X legally"
The legality of it doesn't affect the compatibilty. It's illegal to shoplift, but does that make the human body physically less able to achieve the task? Sure, it complicates things a bit, but it can be (and is) done.
thats not very expensive, macs are much better than PC'S, I just like to buy quality and stuff which lasts my old acer laptop lasted how long? 11 months
My acer is over 2 years old and still works. First of all lets clear some issues here, Windows is not a PC and PC is not Windows so when you speak about advantages/disadvantages, for windows you can leave durability out of the equation, and for the record sitting next to me is a 7 year old Compaq running Kubuntu and XP Pro.
I don't care about windows I have used it an I hate it my macs are perfect for me I'm not interested in PC'S they bore me so much I want to jump off a building. they make the experience as boring as possible
now all yoru doing is copying commercials. Theres nothing you can do on your Mac that I can't do with my PC. In fact now that we are on the subject of "boredom" I would have to say that the fact you can't even play a quarter of the "games" on the market would be a big chunk out of the entertainment.
Anyone who buys an alienware or XPS buys it as blindly as someone who buys a mac pro. Your pricing is so incredibly far off that its hard to believe. I can build a equivalent home rig for FAR FAR FAR less then a Mac Pro. As for games the Mac Pro is still incompatible with almost any of the popular games in the OSX/Leaopard Environment.
1. Make comparisons yourself and try to prove me wrong.
2. I'll never consider a home rig built with cheap parts. Ergo, it'll still cost a bit to build a home rig with top tier components, even with discounts; you save only on labor to assemble it. As for the most expensive Mac Pro, it's hard to find anyone short of server MFRs building a computer with two quad core Xeon CPUs.
I don't need top tier parts, most people don't need top tier parts to run most of the best games/software out. I could easily build a system equivalent or better then the Mac Pro for at least 500 dollars less and I could build a iMac equivalent for at least 600 dollars less. Apple markets to main audiences, the stupid and rich, and the coffees house writer.
The "poor quality" is often at the budget end of the spectrum. I have only had 1 part ever give me serious problems and that was PCI type RAID controller, this was obviously before I learned how useless raid striping is and I never had the need for mirroring, I simply bought a better optical and hooked up the extra hard drive I wanted seperately.
3. Unavailability of games and some utilities on OS X is countered by using Win on Mac, and you have both installed in just one rig instead of two. This is handy for people who work cross-platform, like I do.
Whats the point of buying the mac in the first place if you have to run a windows environment to do everything. I always find that funny, you don't see me using a Mac emulator or VM because I don't have the need for it, it all already runs on here. As for having PCI-Xpress I am not impressed almost all modern computers have that and it has been around for years for PC based systems.
For your needs, Win may be fine. But please don't assume the same of others.
As for Win, there's more than doing stuff; it's also reliability and efficiency. OS X is leaner and doesn't have overly complex parts, such as a registry (The reg is a weakness because there are many exploits that take advantage of its complexity, such as root kits. These can be fixed, but it's not an issue on OS X.)
I can rely on Mac more than Win to stay running. For work, where time is money, that's important.
First off, I have never had a virus or virus checker for that matter on any of my machines, my lack of need for midget porn is the reason for that. I have 3 machines 2 of which run XP Pro and run constantly without hiccups. I do quite a bit on these machines, like I said find me one purpose you use a Mac for and I will tell you what Windows program does it better and cheaper.
Viruses manifest themselves in more ways than one, including ways you least expect it. Just because you don't frequent websites that may feature tainted content doesn't mean you can't be infected.
Furthermore, exploits ARE NOT viruses but weakpoints in an architecture that a malicious user or malicious code can take advantage of to make your computer do things without your authorization, even surreptitiously.
I periodically make viruses to test my hardware and if I can't make something nasty enough I pay a red hat to do it. In all reality someone who isn't a total retard knows when someone is sending an exploit. Realistically most wifi/ethernet gateways hardware are more then sufficient by blocking unknown UDP/NAT traffic at the sacrifice of some game and P2P functionality.
Pros are more and more separating themselves from the Mac platform because of scalability issues, Specs Howard barely even uses them anymore. Again my Windows machine has always run when it counts and when reliability is the issue large businesses use Unix/Linux or NT based environments not Apple.
I run pro tools flawslessly on a my Travelmate 4220 and on my Satellite pro. The Toshiba was a freebie and the Travelmate was provided by my collage store for less then 1000 dollars. I wouldn't want to pay 2000 for a computer JUST so I know it will work, I would rather shop the market and buy the best product for the money.
i wonder why some mac fanboys gave u thumbs down. u could easily get a pc thats as good as a mac but u dont get the service or a sturdy build qualitie like a mac
Not quite true, customer service on PC is what you make of it as well as the build quality. A 500 dollar compaq presario isn't going to be as good as a 1000+ dollar Acer Travelmate, the great thing about PC is that you have that choice, there is always something available to fit your needs and budget as opposed to Apple who caters only to those with deep pockets.
true they are pretty dam expensive, but if u go to ebay/macmall nu can get a good mac at a cheaper price i have a pc too but its just for my games and stuff, but because half of the people use pc's for heavy gaming, they need deep pockets too
New integrated hardware that supports shader 4.0 makes playing games on cheaper machines mroe then possible. The new intel chip runs Far Cry and HL2 without hiccups.
Macs are unique in their own way, but so are windows systems, I might switch over to mac if they actually have any major games on there, which very few are formatted for mac, but a great thing about linux is that its safer from viruses than windows. So I guess if your not a gamer, go for the mac, or the windows, whatever works for you :)
That might sound somewhat arrogant, but a mac is not built to play neat games - it's built to get your work done. If one wants to play games or "pimp/mod" a computer - don't get a mac, get a Windows PC. Linux is based on Unix and so is MacOS X - fingers crossed, you don't have problems with viruses on a Mac or a Linux machine.
Yes, but Macs now tend to become the same for home computers / multimedia. And that's the only power of Microsoft which seems to become smaller and smaller (cf. Windows Vista...)
well whatever apple is making the same things of sony ericsson, they begin with good mobile designs and now they are making "copycats" of the same models,if you compare the iphone and the ipod touch designs you can see a little sign of decadence.
The greatest quote ever to grace my ears on the subject- I use windows because when I use a Mac, I don't feel so much like the user so much as I'm just along for the Mac experience- and if I happen to get any meaningful work done along the way, so be it.
Here's the best idea nowadays. Buy a Mac Pro, with an 8 CORE Processor (2 Quads) with Mac OSX Tiger. Then install XP and/or Vista on top of it, to play all the games. Then you've got the perfect computer, the benifits of UNIX coding with the PC's wealth of games. Win/Win.
Its not an eight core processor. Technically speaking, it's two processors, with four cores respectively. You can't say that a motherboard with two LGA775 sockets each populated by its respective package, in turn populated by a quad core 65nm die has 'an 8 core processor'. Its just screwy. Its like calling an ATM an ATM machine. The M stands for machine. Why are you calling it a machine machine.
True. But with two processors, with 4 cores, four lines of processing each, working as co-processors intead of "Main" and "Secondary", I would consider that equal to 8 cores. It might even be BETTER than just one 8 core processor, due to the seperation. Just like how a single core processor at 3 GHZ isn't better than a duel core at 1.5 GHZ.
In some respects it actually is, the dual core chips were designed to be fast they were designed to be more efficient multitaskers. A P4 3.2Ghz chip with 800Mhz of FSB would whip the pants off of a dual core running at 1.66 with 533Mhz FSB for singular operations. Even a quad core running 3Ghz at 1033FSB would be marginally slower then a P4 running at 3.2 at the same FSB clock.
They changed to Intel because Intel has much better mobile processors. IBM just failed to put the G5 on a laptop and his future roadmap look even worse.
lmfao shut the fuck up go back yo using your crap windows operating system and macs are for people who know computer and have a brain to buy a good computer twat
Yes the G3 600 MHz was fater than the P3 but what 3 times more expensive and no at the time the P!!! 1.0Ghz Kicked ass, do you see any one runing a G3 at these days? *oh yes at school, and my brother has one and My granma has one and some one I know has one...
And how many of them are still working?
*Macs work?
I can f**** run Xp pro in a PII 400Mhz and still Kick Macs's Ass...
true. The PII was actually a terrible design- the thing that made it successful was that it was competing with similarly backward designs of its day such as AMD's K6 and 7 processors and the 'millenium' series of short lived pitiful cpus. The PII wasn't very good- it was just marginally better than its competition at said price point. IBM PPC processors at the same clock rate were at the time, albeit pricier, better performers.
Hmmmmmmmm. Isn't "gay lesbian" a double negative? Kind of like calling someone a gay fagget. Oh yeah...Mac is for queers and hippies. Intel is the shit.

FullMentalPanic 3 years ago 3
Apple mostly moved to intel because IBM either could not or would not make a portable G5.
The G4 was getting old and apple needed a new processor for their notebooks.
Though they could have waited for the e600 which is a dual core 64bit G4.
The first core 1 and 2s were slower then the G5 but the faster bus on them helped compensate for this.
Was this a wise move not sure as it's now pretty easy make make your own mac.
But then maybe hackintoshes could be thought as viral apple marketing.

lol yeah that has to be a lot faster then a intel Core 2 quad running at 1066Mhz FSB at a clock of 3.2.Ghz.

Apple makes poor products and it silences its users that do anything other then praise them.
nottafanboy6954 4 years ago
AJCOMIX: What you are reffering to is a result of the inefficiency of System Busses and external- to- die chip memory allocation, not the actual inherent speeds of the chips themselves, but, sadly, you are correct. The inefficiency of current intel architechture means that the seperation = increased efficiency, despite increased latency. Its a very sad paradox that should not exist at our level of technology.

this is no different than what car companies do compare their new gen car to the competators old gen car.
Ive used both systems, and you will never be able to take full advantage of an apples power while the big advantage of a pc is COMPATABLITY, COMPATABLITY, COMPATABILITY
old PCs can find a new life when they are stripped, paired out parts and can be recustomized as a second supporting pc.
godscuttingyoudown 4 years ago
macs are actually more compatible than PC'S intel macs run windows where as a PC can not run OS X legally
Rjnicko 4 years ago
More compatible with what? Windows? Didn't you just defeat your own argument? Macs become more compatible by running Windows not by being able to run windows and it still won't change the fact that I have nowhere to stick my new video card into on that shiny new mac.
nottafanboy6954 4 years ago
well on my mac with have a thing called an AGP slot
Rjnicko 4 years ago
I was pretty sure that like 90 percent of macs use onboard video chipsets. On my PC I have a thing called PCI Xpress 16x and it makes AGP look like the whiny bitch that it is. Good luck finding drivers for that video card you put in that AGP slot.
nottafanboy6954 4 years ago
well macpros don't and the new iMacs don't the notebooks and the mac mini does
Rjnicko 4 years ago
MacPros start at how much? 2400 dollars?
nottafanboy6954 4 years ago
"macs are actually more compatible . . . [because] a PC can not run OS X legally"
The legality of it doesn't affect the compatibilty. It's illegal to shoplift, but does that make the human body physically less able to achieve the task? Sure, it complicates things a bit, but it can be (and is) done.
ScotsmanRS 4 years ago
thats not very expensive, macs are much better than PC'S, I just like to buy quality and stuff which lasts my old acer laptop lasted how long? 11 months
Rjnicko 4 years ago
My acer is over 2 years old and still works. First of all lets clear some issues here, Windows is not a PC and PC is not Windows so when you speak about advantages/disadvantages, for windows you can leave durability out of the equation, and for the record sitting next to me is a 7 year old Compaq running Kubuntu and XP Pro.
nottafanboy6954 4 years ago
I don't care about windows I have used it an I hate it my macs are perfect for me I'm not interested in PC'S they bore me so much I want to jump off a building. they make the experience as boring as possible
Rjnicko 4 years ago
now all yoru doing is copying commercials. Theres nothing you can do on your Mac that I can't do with my PC. In fact now that we are on the subject of "boredom" I would have to say that the fact you can't even play a quarter of the "games" on the market would be a big chunk out of the entertainment.
nottafanboy6954 4 years ago
Depends on the model.
Mac Pros make exclusive use of PCI-E ports and they have LOTS of them.
As for cost, there is parity when you compare a Mac Pro to a comparable Alienware Area-51 or Dell XPS system, much less a homebuilt rig.
Plus, you can run Windows and Linux on an Intel-based Mac natively either through Boot Camp or through virtualization ala VMware or Parallels.
As for support of AGP video cards, at least with ATI and nVidia, drivers are easily available.
Watcher3223 4 years ago
Anyone who buys an alienware or XPS buys it as blindly as someone who buys a mac pro. Your pricing is so incredibly far off that its hard to believe. I can build a equivalent home rig for FAR FAR FAR less then a Mac Pro. As for games the Mac Pro is still incompatible with almost any of the popular games in the OSX/Leaopard Environment.
nottafanboy6954 4 years ago
Watcher3223 4 years ago
I don't need top tier parts, most people don't need top tier parts to run most of the best games/software out. I could easily build a system equivalent or better then the Mac Pro for at least 500 dollars less and I could build a iMac equivalent for at least 600 dollars less. Apple markets to main audiences, the stupid and rich, and the coffees house writer.
nottafanboy6954 4 years ago
Using top tier parts does not necessarily mean using high end parts, but using quality parts.
I've seen a good many errors in computers as a result of using poor quality parts.
Power supplies is one example of how top tier in even the lowest end stands out over crap in significant ways.
Watcher3223 4 years ago
The "poor quality" is often at the budget end of the spectrum. I have only had 1 part ever give me serious problems and that was PCI type RAID controller, this was obviously before I learned how useless raid striping is and I never had the need for mirroring, I simply bought a better optical and hooked up the extra hard drive I wanted seperately.
nottafanboy6954 4 years ago
3. Unavailability of games and some utilities on OS X is countered by using Win on Mac, and you have both installed in just one rig instead of two. This is handy for people who work cross-platform, like I do.
Watcher3223 4 years ago
Whats the point of buying the mac in the first place if you have to run a windows environment to do everything. I always find that funny, you don't see me using a Mac emulator or VM because I don't have the need for it, it all already runs on here. As for having PCI-Xpress I am not impressed almost all modern computers have that and it has been around for years for PC based systems.
nottafanboy6954 4 years ago
For your needs, Win may be fine. But please don't assume the same of others.
As for Win, there's more than doing stuff; it's also reliability and efficiency. OS X is leaner and doesn't have overly complex parts, such as a registry (The reg is a weakness because there are many exploits that take advantage of its complexity, such as root kits. These can be fixed, but it's not an issue on OS X.)
I can rely on Mac more than Win to stay running. For work, where time is money, that's important.
Watcher3223 4 years ago
First off, I have never had a virus or virus checker for that matter on any of my machines, my lack of need for midget porn is the reason for that. I have 3 machines 2 of which run XP Pro and run constantly without hiccups. I do quite a bit on these machines, like I said find me one purpose you use a Mac for and I will tell you what Windows program does it better and cheaper.
nottafanboy6954 4 years ago
Viruses manifest themselves in more ways than one, including ways you least expect it. Just because you don't frequent websites that may feature tainted content doesn't mean you can't be infected.
Furthermore, exploits ARE NOT viruses but weakpoints in an architecture that a malicious user or malicious code can take advantage of to make your computer do things without your authorization, even surreptitiously.
Watcher3223 4 years ago
I periodically make viruses to test my hardware and if I can't make something nasty enough I pay a red hat to do it. In all reality someone who isn't a total retard knows when someone is sending an exploit. Realistically most wifi/ethernet gateways hardware are more then sufficient by blocking unknown UDP/NAT traffic at the sacrifice of some game and P2P functionality.
nottafanboy6954 4 years ago
I doubt you'll find much that tops Pro Tools.
There's Pro Tools for Win, but to get a Win rig of the kind necessary, you're going to spend a lot anyways.
Why not just get OS X and be assured that it's more likely to stay running when it counts? That's why pros use Mac.
Again, time is money. I'm not going to save a few in the short term just to lose it when the work is lost from a crash.
Watcher3223 4 years ago
Pros are more and more separating themselves from the Mac platform because of scalability issues, Specs Howard barely even uses them anymore. Again my Windows machine has always run when it counts and when reliability is the issue large businesses use Unix/Linux or NT based environments not Apple.
nottafanboy6954 4 years ago
Go to a real school. In the real world, media companies use Macs almost exclusively. ("RTV5-89" so I know what I'm talking about.)
AaronD12a 3 years ago
As for some other audio projects, like basic recording and editing, I use Audacity, which is freeware for OS X and Windows.
Watcher3223 4 years ago
I run pro tools flawslessly on a my Travelmate 4220 and on my Satellite pro. The Toshiba was a freebie and the Travelmate was provided by my collage store for less then 1000 dollars. I wouldn't want to pay 2000 for a computer JUST so I know it will work, I would rather shop the market and buy the best product for the money.

i wonder why some mac fanboys gave u thumbs down. u could easily get a pc thats as good as a mac but u dont get the service or a sturdy build qualitie like a mac
gino800 3 years ago
Not quite true, customer service on PC is what you make of it as well as the build quality. A 500 dollar compaq presario isn't going to be as good as a 1000+ dollar Acer Travelmate, the great thing about PC is that you have that choice, there is always something available to fit your needs and budget as opposed to Apple who caters only to those with deep pockets.
nottafanboy6954 3 years ago
true they are pretty dam expensive, but if u go to ebay/macmall nu can get a good mac at a cheaper price i have a pc too but its just for my games and stuff, but because half of the people use pc's for heavy gaming, they need deep pockets too
gino800 3 years ago
New integrated hardware that supports shader 4.0 makes playing games on cheaper machines mroe then possible. The new intel chip runs Far Cry and HL2 without hiccups.

Macs are unique in their own way, but so are windows systems, I might switch over to mac if they actually have any major games on there, which very few are formatted for mac, but a great thing about linux is that its safer from viruses than windows. So I guess if your not a gamer, go for the mac, or the windows, whatever works for you :)
BriggsRed 4 years ago
That might sound somewhat arrogant, but a mac is not built to play neat games - it's built to get your work done. If one wants to play games or "pimp/mod" a computer - don't get a mac, get a Windows PC. Linux is based on Unix and so is MacOS X - fingers crossed, you don't have problems with viruses on a Mac or a Linux machine.
AtomicGarden1983 4 years ago
of course....macs are made for graphic designers and offices.
neoceluloide 4 years ago
Yes, but Macs now tend to become the same for home computers / multimedia. And that's the only power of Microsoft which seems to become smaller and smaller (cf. Windows Vista...)

hmmm... that's right....
of fuck!
macs are in danger!
well whatever apple is making the same things of sony ericsson, they begin with good mobile designs and now they are making "copycats" of the same models,if you compare the iphone and the ipod touch designs you can see a little sign of decadence.
neoceluloide 4 years ago
The greatest quote ever to grace my ears on the subject- I use windows because when I use a Mac, I don't feel so much like the user so much as I'm just along for the Mac experience- and if I happen to get any meaningful work done along the way, so be it.
111olbap 4 years ago
I also heard a quote, when I use windows it depresses me so much I want to scream and jump of a building thats why I use macs
Rjnicko 4 years ago
Here's the best idea nowadays. Buy a Mac Pro, with an 8 CORE Processor (2 Quads) with Mac OSX Tiger. Then install XP and/or Vista on top of it, to play all the games. Then you've got the perfect computer, the benifits of UNIX coding with the PC's wealth of games. Win/Win.
AJComixII 4 years ago
Its not an eight core processor. Technically speaking, it's two processors, with four cores respectively. You can't say that a motherboard with two LGA775 sockets each populated by its respective package, in turn populated by a quad core 65nm die has 'an 8 core processor'. Its just screwy. Its like calling an ATM an ATM machine. The M stands for machine. Why are you calling it a machine machine.
111olbap 4 years ago
AJComixII 4 years ago
In some respects it actually is, the dual core chips were designed to be fast they were designed to be more efficient multitaskers. A P4 3.2Ghz chip with 800Mhz of FSB would whip the pants off of a dual core running at 1.66 with 533Mhz FSB for singular operations. Even a quad core running 3Ghz at 1033FSB would be marginally slower then a P4 running at 3.2 at the same FSB clock.
nottafanboy6954 4 years ago
They changed to Intel because Intel has much better mobile processors. IBM just failed to put the G5 on a laptop and his future roadmap look even worse.

BlackHatLinwix 4 years ago
the pentuim 2 was just no mace to the g3
djneo92nl 4 years ago
