i saw that an eastern painted turtle needs a 60 gallon tank but urs looks to be doing fine a 30 gallon. how much did ur tank coast? an is ur filter good cuzz i dont want that cheap shit.
well it all deponds on the type of turtle u get some only need shallow water and some are deep do read up on what u are getting and dont get a red eared slider what people dont know some have been known to go 20 inches and that mean 10 gallons per inch of turtle get a painted male
i dont really know what that is, but the problem with tap water is it has chemicals in it that could harm the animal, what you cuold do to make it easier is to go to a local pet store and ask if they have chemical remover for tap water, its usually found in the fish area of the pet store
Owning reptiles is about stimulating natural habitats but i do disagree with a few things in the description box. You say turtles are mainly from lakes, ponds, streams, rivers ect. that is true however but keep in mind these are captive turtles and captive-bred turtles which means they were born in a aquarium and thats all they ever have known its not as if they were in an actual lake, pond, or stream so being a tank with shallow water or with deep water is all they will ever know.
regular aquirm fuliter thig is that the water level so low that the water spills over bigger making it look as if it was a water fall, so yeah just get a regualer one and lower the water level to give it that look like mines
Hey i just seen your video i was wondering How deep should my water be for my new baby painted turtle hes about 1 inch in size and i just got him as a gift lol hes in a 10 gallon tank with about 2 inches of water right now i have the lights and getting a filter soon for him i just need to know how deep the water needs to be for a new born painted turtle
Beautiful set up!! I wanna know what filter you have....I just got a zoo med 501 but I want one that looks like a water fall. I love my turtles and I'd love to get them a nicer filter.
fruits vegies and commercial food.. i gotta warn u if ur gonaa switch to another diet of food itll take awhile for the turtle to get used to it.. sooo u might wanna secretly mix it in with the turtles regular favorite food
Hey I'm getting two baby red ear sliders (about 3 inches) and I want to put a pleco and my two comet tailed goldfish (about 1 3/4 of an inch.) What are the chances of them getting eaten/harrassed? The tank will be 30 gallons.
don't worry about the pleco i have one in my tank also he just hidding but anyway the pleco wont be killed by your turtles b/c he literally to hard for them lol the fish may get harrassed, possibly may get eaten when the turts get bigger, turtles that R fed offtend with pellets wont be intrested in the fish but sometimes that want help though so its up to you if you want to test it out. The fish in my tank were ment to be eaten i didn't want them as pets but my turtle don't them neither lol.
I see, yea they're really small turtles so I was going to just give it a try. They haven't been eating fish so I plan to keep it that way. I'm just counting on the fact that my fish will grow faster than my turtles. Thanks for the help, we'll see how it goes.
thanx, i luv my turtle. Now the golfish, they been in that tank for too long, he just don't want to eat'em. he used to eat'em but now he justwant food from me thats it. Strange
I have a 1 1/2 inch western painted turtle. I want to get him a bigger tank. His name is Snappy and he is about a year to two years old, im not sure, i got him from a friend. I just got him and hes in a really small tank right now. What size do you suggest. would 20 gallon be sufficiant? What kind of plant life do you have in there?
Cool tank set up!

do painted turtles need air?
joeyscooter 3 years ago
no offense but REALLY why post such a dumb comment!
animalhouser54 3 years ago 9
@animalhouser54 well yes and no. When they hibernate they absorb the oxygen in the water through their skin, but other than that they breath air :)
