Hey Great video - Easy to follow and really enjoyable :)
I have just done a fun video called "History of pop in 100 riffs" , and this is one of the riffs featured in it - but for piano, so will go along nicely :)
Please check out the video on my piano and take the challenge to see if you can name the famous keyboard riffs ;)
Hope you keep on making these kind of videos , as i wish youtube was about when i took up the piano / keyboard.
All the best, and please have a look at my new vid
Beautiful tune. Paul & John continuously scared each other into writing great songs. I think the competition (& synergy) was a fundamental aspect of the band's kick ass brilliance. BTW, I've heard some of your stuff & picked up nuances I never knew about, so thanks. If you get a minute check out my songs, although it's only a few. Cheers!!
really good cover, but i think the intro part actually has john's guitar with the neck pickup on tone 0 or something. then on the verse it's john again with some simple rythym, next george joins with some more complicated guitar. I don't know i just heard an only guitars+paul vocals version
@fguka Most likely it was a Rickenbacker. It totally sounds like it and Paul used it on Abbey Road. Paul, as far as I know, never used the Fender. John had a 6 string Fender bass and he used it for example on Helter Skelter.
@RPGCream There's some really nice Fender VI playing on Back in the USSR, too. I assume it's John playing it. And you can also hear it on Birthday, with George playing the higher riff on guitar and John playing a lower riff on the Fender VI in unison.
@privettricker Yeah, they used the Fender for those songs. There's McCartney's bass on Back in the USSR and also Lennon playing the 6-string bass. But George played the Fender VI on Birthday and John played the lead. And Paul played the bass on You Never Give Me Your Money, 99% a Rickenbacker. They used the Fender VI a lot on the White Album, but I think only John and George used it, Paul never played it.
@RPGCream There's definitely both Paul's Rick and John's Fender VI on You Never Give Me Your Money and Back in the USSR. And you're right -- Paul couldn't have played a Fender VI that was strung for right-handers! Still, I'm surprised it's George on the Fender VI on birthday with John playing the guitar part. If you listen to the vibrato on the guitar parts (particularly toward the end of the song), I have a hard time believing John's vibrato could sound like that.
@privettricker I know what you mean, it doesn't actually sound like John. The basic guitar riff was composed by Paul. And I'm pretty sure there's only Paul's bass on You Never Give Me Your Money. The Rick has a really powerful tone, so it's enough. Just listen to Getting Better and you'll probably get it. And i've read those comments about your sound - John played the fuzz guitar and George got that "bell" sound by using a Leslie cabinet from a Hammond organ. But your sound is great too.
@RPGCream Hmm. I'm thinking the intro licks on You Never Give Me Your Money have to be the Fender VI. Then it switches to guitar (George on Les Paul?) at around 1:10 into it. You can hear soft chords under the "Out of college..." parts, then into the chiming guitars, etc. But no matter what amp or guitar you use, you can't get those intro licks to sound like a Fender VI. Just my guess.
@RS1Comedy1Vids The recording came out more distorted than it sounded in the room. That's a bit of a challenge for me, actually. The tone is often very different when I'm playing it versus what it sounds like on the recording.
your video are the best working tool i found tho be better at the guitar ....dude you really inspire me and i hope one day i can play as good or as close as you do ...and if i win a jack pot i 'll send you the money for your recording studio :-)
Nice job! I guess the tone was pretty hard to emulate!! The original sounds like bells - loud and crystal clear, and you were a little more distorted.
I think Abbey Road has got some of the best guitar tones and riffs on it! Awesome!
@daregularperson I'm saving up for a $100 million recording studio, a team of recording engineers, George Martin's production services, and a boat load of musical talent. So I hope to be able to re-create the Abbey Road guitar tones in a couple more weeks.
Brilliant and simply done. Nice tone.
Bravo... (clap clap).

They used the Fender Bass VI right?
fguka 1 year ago
@fguka That's my guess, yeah. Plenty of footage of John using one in the Let it Be film, so I'm assuming they used the same one for Abbey Road.

Listening to what John and George play in the middle section (1:50-2:12) shows how they truly were melodic geniuses.
Of course great work as usual, Chris? (Sorry if that's not your name, I just read it a couple of times in the comments)
Only complaint is that I thought it was a little too distorted, but still way better than what I could do.
