Google for stencil shadows. I use the same technique but with a sphere for the "shadow volume". The sphere is centered around the surface point that you're currently targeting with the mouse, and the stencil trick means I will only draw the intersection between sphere and mesh.

1.easy user interface (easyer than that is impossible)
2.small program
3.very detailed (almost ZBRUSH)
and notices:
please add the detail level like in zbrush
