Idk if it's just because I've never tried Spey casting but; it looks like the line spends too much time in the air and loses all the speed and kinetic energy you created.
Ive used the Skagit system on the Fraser river and its tributaries. Very fast flowing water and very fast sinking leaders are a must. Skagit makes these leaders and the flies a joy to cast. Thats why it was developed.
I fish with a skagit head and relatively soft rod. I use it to toss dries (sz 4 to 6) most of the time and like it very much - much better in fact than my old scandi rod / delta spey line combination. I have noticed no loss of distance (and in fact get MORE with the skagit). I also like the fact that on those rare occassions when I do want to cast a dead chicken, I can. I couldn't do that with my scandi/delta combo. One man's joke is another man's poem, I guess.
I've heard some real negative criticisms about skagit lines. First, unless you're throwing HUGE flies for dredging, it's not useful. Infact, I think it takes a nosedive for aerial dynamics. Ed Ward, the skagitmaster and I agree on alot of things but not on the abilities of this line to fly itself out of the water. These new rods to go along with skagits...a joke in my opinion. The real experts say to stick to traditional speylines for gease lining strategies...Dredging? Try skagit for steelhead.
I appreciate this video. If you get someone out there again to shoot you, it would be nice to see you fish in an actual fishing situation (in the current and doing an actual presentation to the fish).
The main purpose of these videos is to that a lot of differentstyles can be used to cast skagit lines and to show how effortless skagit casting can be
I thought I did answer earlier .I apologize I am, brand new at this kind of stuff. The answer was Meiser 13 6 7/8 MKS and 540 compact skagit. The sweeping back and forth was due to the dead current not bringingthe fly back to the dangle so I had to sweep it a couple of times to establish anchor position. MK

Dear Mike if there was a bush at your right shoulder or tree what cast would you use? with the Skagit line.
TheCaster26 2 years ago
left hand single or double spey

good footage but way Way WAY to many cuts, you concentrate on a cast and it faids away and your totally confused what is going on.
it would be grate if you could up a second video with less cuts ^^
thanks

Seeing the casts in context would be great.
