First off I didn't type "straight pipes" anywhere, I said running unrestricted exhaust without tuning the intake decreases performance. No wait I implied that because I assumed you'd have the slightest idea how a motor works.

Second off do you really think ghost rider just took a stock busa, threw some short pipe on it and called it a day... no. Also the turbo runs off the exhaust but that is way beyond you..... did you even read anything I typed or did you specifically gloss over "tuned"?

I have yet to hear a valid argument as to why changing exhaust pressure, WITHOUT adjusting air/fuel mix and intake pressure, will not in any way harm the over-all running condition of the motor.

Tarra him self said he sacrificed low-end torque for his straight pipes yet what is suspiciously absent is that he also added a Ram-Charger (oh excuse me "hyper charger") and adjusting his main jet to #140.

I want to see a bike with no exhaust pressure, maybe 2-foot pipes, no adjustments to the carb or air/fuel intake. I want to see how that runs without hurting the motor.

For anyone that thinks this sounds good, please understand this is very bad for the bike and you can hear it really hurting. Motors need intake and exhaust pressure to run correctly or be tuned for the lesser exhaust pressure.

Friends don't let friends drive untuned bikes!

@sandsz if it is bad, then why does the moto gp bikes run straight pipes. the only loss is tourqe which is due to the loss in back pressure. i run my cruiser straight piped no problem

Your right! Then again there is a huge difference between highly tuned moto gp and a street bike!

Think about this, length of pipes also play a role. Cut your exhaust three feet shorter and it's guarantied to run like crap and backfire like a mofo! OH it will sound "great" and backfire is cool, but its not all that great for the motor.

There is a huge amount of information online if you want to check it out! Over a Century of study on this can't be wrong hehe.

@sandsz its not gaureented to run like crap. look at ghost riders turbo busa. his pipe is cut off at less than 3 feet and it runs great. yet again i will say IT DOES NOT HURT ANYTHING!!! if it did the pros wouldnt run their bikes straight piped. apparently you need to check your info. i also think that it sounds great straight piped.

4 into 1 header and a straight pipe. He probably shaped it weird to make a noise like that. Sounds like a low pitched trumpet to me.

If I were going down the street and heard a sound like that, I'd figure it was another Honda Civic with a fart can.

I have an '85 450, but the '82 750 has always been my favorite Honda...still lookin' for one in good condition. All these old Nighthawks are great bikes. I ride with a lot of newer bikes, and mine attracts just as much attention as the big cruisers, mostly because of the great condition it's in.
