I've always felt, ever since first hearing this piece, that the slow bit, beginning at about 3:42, should have words, and be the national anthem of England. I feel the melody perfectly expresses the weight of history, the glory, the joy and sadness of Britain through the last 2,000 years, from the earliest battles against the Romans to the defeat of the Spanish Armada, to the great courage of the people during the Blitz......anyone else agree with me?
