i remember fighting this guy way way back. i got to the point were i only had the el chick (been awhile forgot the names) and gandalf alive and all the elf did was heal gandalf while he fought. took forever! ah good times
see my tactic was just keep idrial and gandalf alive and use just brute force with bolt of the valar and loudwtaer fury its so simple and give both of them arnor mushrooms and keep them alive
This boss was easy, probably the easiest in the game, as bosses go. (I play on Hard Mode) You need to have Hadhod, Berethor, and Idrial. Use Endure Flame, Endure Shadow, Company Resistance, Mountain Shield, and pretty much all the leadership buffs that Berethor offers. From there everyone has to be offensive, in order to kill this thing, you have to be offensive. or else you will die of lack of resources. When Balrog uses Pillar or Breath, use Gandalf's wizard's drain & dont forget morgul decay
Ahh, this is bad for me, I changed my ps2 console for an ipod touch 1st generation, so i cant play this game anymore... for lucky i still having this game :) oh wait.... No, my mom gift it D:
your first few turns, ladle on the defensive spells. use the mountain shield ifuv got it, and up hadhods spirit power, then have hadhod and berethor mete out physical strikes(morgal decay). idrial shud use loudwater fury and be on hand for healing, and if u dunno wat to do with gandalf ur stupid
Actually I think he can, not only does the strategy guide say he can be stunned I've tried it myself. It's been a LONG time though so I don't quite remember how it went. Lol
@theSneakySasquatch - I could be wrong since i havent played this in along time, but i always thought that all of the boss characters, including the Balrog, could not be crippled, stunned, or anything like that. However, like i said i could be wrong.
Just use endure shadow, endure fire, company resistance, fellowship grace, company might, and use morgul decay on the balrog. Thisll be one if the easier fights in the entire game. Also hadhods crippling strikes are VERY useful.
@theSneakySasquatch - Only flaw in your tactic is the unfortunately, the Balrog cannot be crippled/slowed in anyway. Other than that though, not a bad strat :)
@cshepherd13 One thing I did was added those Bruinen (sp?) waters on Gandalf and Idrial. His BoV hits went from 4k-5k to 6k-7kand Idrial's Loudwater Fury went from 1.5k to 2-3k.
ha me and my mate have gone hrough this game so many times. we glitched the balrog. :) stunned it when it was immune. lol what diffuculty you on??? (P.S nice stratergy)
Guys I know a way to kill balrog very very easy!! First have Berethor, Idrial, and Hadhod in. Then use with hadhod endure flame, with gandalf endure shadow, and with berethor company resistance... Then TAUNT FOE the balrog with Hadhod... Yes TAUNT FOE!!! The balrog will always attack Hadhod, or all together... he will not attack others... And since Hadhod is immune to Balrog' s attacks, he cannot die...Unless of cource Balrog uses the pillars of wrath, or roaring inferno...
second hardest boss for me on my first play through hardest being the witch king motherfucker took me an hour to beat sorry it was my first play through sue me i can kick his ass easily bow but this guys just straight up intimidating personally i never really upped berethors leadership abilities i always stuck to straight up combat with him and i let idrial handle all the spirit back up crap had hods my other big damager with morwen really never got use out of elegost
@Danzilla1996 compared to your characters stats, he is the strongest enemy in the game, at the hard setting i think he has over 100k hp, can one shot you (and steal your ap) in one attack etc etc.
also witch king is way to easy once you use a morgul decay on him, just use gondor rampage and win .. xD
This is the hardest SOLO monster in the game. And Helm's Deep is the hardest part because of the groups. Anyway 5/5 and congratulations on beating him ;)
if ur wanting 2 get 100% on this game just go 2 start.....then go 2 quest and find the region that doesnt say 100% completed....go 2 a save point.....travel there .....finish the quest(s) and wala....... 100% completed =)
this game is so fun and easy......it is such a classic along with other LOTR games.......ive beaten it twice now this is my third time and its easier than ever.....have fun every1.....=p
@Torinorozco Same here dude. One time when I was fighting this guy, he hit me with that attack THREE TIMES IN A FUCKING ROW!!!!! It's a good thing I was playing on easy difficulty or that would have been game over for me.
i almost shit my pants wen i saw this thing. was playn it on a 42in plasma screen. last time i was that afrade i was fighting sephiroth for the 1st time on ff7
what ya said is: Equip 1 or 2 items u won, to get 100%, but i tried it, and it didn't work, so do u do it to EACH character, or one, to complete to 100%?
i got 99%, but i dont know how 2 get 100% on my file, i tries everything, but it didn't work! HELP! Can u please reply, and help me, plz type the steps very clearly! PS: Awesome stadegy, dude!
Make sure all quests are done, make sure all scenes have been acquired, and make sure you have beaten the Evil Mode for Pelennor Fields, and save that to your 99% file. Then fight Sauron once more and you should have 100%, if you dont, send me a personal message and i will try to help you out more :)
I remember arnor mushrooms being a life saver for this battle, use idrial to keep everyone rezed while gandalf raps the crap out of him with unlimited AP :P This was a great RPG! But what I found most funny about it was when you "Missed" an attack on a Balrog or a Mumakil? HOW CAN U MISS!? LOL XD.
If you think that turn-based RPG's are supposed to be different then i pity you. FF came first, so any turn-based RPG following it will have many similarities simply bc there is only one way to have a turn-based RPG.........turn-based.
Also, the battle-system is pretty much identical to FF, the creators even admitted this.
I just beat this fellow a few minutes ago. I think I did pretty good considering it was my first time and that I hadn't been intentionally grinding at all. Only one who died was Benethor... :(
Anyway, evil mode as the Balrog was hilarious. I used Pillar of Flame which instantly killed everyone but Gandalf. Gandalf died two turns later. :)
Yep, he is the last fight in the Evil mode level of Western Moria i believe. Its really easy though, just use roaring inferno or pillar of wrath to completely drain all their AP, then the battle is pretty much over.
My people had like 3000 hp at this part and i abused Endure Shadow And Endure Flame and the Balrog was attacking, but my people were Immune. I was like Wtf... I didn't know yoy could take 0 from the Balrog.
if u beat the games you can get the best weapon for berathor it has over 220 power only in last evil mode i started a new game and after the first save point when i should have been doing 50 - 150 damage i did 700- 1000 on the first lv!i I also got super armor and all the elfstones to beat the balrog and finally i got the super weapons for hadhod and idreal and morwen and eoden to beat the witch king and saromon. i give the game 5 stars!!!!!!!
Wrong. He is right, if you do the second to last Evil Mode, you get a nice sword for Berethor. If you save that to a newly started campaign, Berethor will be a super tank powerhouse, and you should walk through the first 3/4 of the game uncontested. Its actually really fun to do that too lol.
You get rewards for playing Evil mode, like swords, shields, and elfstones. Things that you wont get anywhere else in the main game, and can only be acquired through Evil mode.
Another thing I found out was useful in my last fight against the Balrog was the item, Bruinen Water. Equip it to Idrial and it will increase the damage of her Loudwater Fury attack.
Lol right after I saved over my old account *Completed* I remember about evil mode and how I could've gotten them good stuff.... ARGH oh well :] Still fun with the nubby stuff
all i did was got my bro to complete the game then i starated a new game then i saved the new game and then i did osgiliath on evil mode if u do it u get a VERY VERY GOOD SWORD for berethor it can do 2000 damage in one hit so by by the time i got 2 the balrog i did ecthellinon wrath (the three hit combo) and killed the balrog in ONE HIT !!!!!!
The battle with the Balrog is one of the hardest battles in the game but the way of betting him is just to use Gandalf. You are only going to use him for damaging the Balrog and you're going to use Idrial as healer. The other guys are Tanks.
You must've done all sorts of backtracking and random battles to learn royal grace and valorous haste. I tend to bring in Hadhod and have him do an Endure Flame to go with Company Resistance, and I'll use Gandalf's AP drain if the others need the AP's, but my strategy involves the use of Idrial's "insurance" move a lot more than you used it, and maybe some Stone Shields. There are many solutions in this game, and it's a fun fight, especially on Hard :-D.
where is a good place i could train my guys over and over to get good skills and shit? cuz i only have very few ones atm fighing this boss and he's proving to be a pain in the ass lol
Just run in circles next to a save point and wait til the Sauron eye fills up and you get a battle. Then save your gameplay after the battle (or until you need to heal/refill HP), then repeat. Your guys should go up in a flash.
by the time i got to this fight i had learned everyhitng by everyone since my navigation skills were so god awful ¬.¬
but i mainly just used gondor rampage (berethor) and deavastating shield+mountain shield (hadhod) aura+power of the valor (idrial) and gandalf just used lightning whenever possible + morgul decay at the beginnin :p
but yer the method in the vid is quite effective ^^
Since Hadhod is immune to the Balrog's attacks, I use Taunt and stone shield (or Mountain Shied if you trained him very well). Then I use Aura of the Valor then later on Power of the Valor. I use Berethor's Fellowship Grace and I also used Morgal Decay, an item that eliminates your opponent's armor entirely.
Im not sure exactly what level they were, but they were not very high, i basically did a speed run this time around. Usually, i train my people much better than this, but i was in a hurry lol.
My strategy of defeating Balrog is to have Berethor, Idrial and Hadhod... I use company might, company valor, fellowship grace and company resistance with Berethor. Gift of Galadriel, Haste of the elves to gandalf, aura and power of the valar with Idrial. Stone shield and endure flame with Hadhod. And all of the gandalf' s spells due to each situation. By this way, Hadhod is immune to Balrogs attacks!!! And the others take damage for only 300 HP...
I normally use Hadhod as well, this is the only part of the game where the game basically tells you, "USE HADHOD!" lol. But on this go around, i decided to use Elegost instead.
Ive tried several times, all my tries Ive only gotten to about halfway... I tried switching hadhod for Idrial, but I think the prob is I didnt use Idrial the ENTIRE way through Moria... so she is at the... her third spell, the greater healing one... and she has like 1200 HP
Nice vid. This game was awesome, but it was a joke in terms of difficulty. If you really wanted to, you could just spam Idrial's Aura of the Valor and not have to worry about trying in 99% of the fights.
Thats an easy tactic, but towards the end, if you play on hard mode, the enemies can use attack which prevent Idrial's spirit attacks. If you dont pay attention, you could wind up losing to them, but simple items can get rid of that, i think Dwarven Ale gets rid of spirit paralysis, but im not 100% sure
the best defence trick i know is to have gandolf use enduring shadow and hadhod use enduring flames since the balrog's attack is fire and shadow. the two defence spells will reduce the attack strengh of the balrog.
The only time you can have a 4th player is when a character from the original fellowship (besides the arrow guy whose name eludes me atm) join forces with you during boss battle (i.e. Gandalf, Aragorn, Legolas, etc.) You cannot have four players from YOUR party on the battlefield at the same time.
Its called training dude, not that hard. I actually barely trained up to this point, and just fought every battle using at least 5-10 moves from every character. Its really simple...
i know me and my friend played this game a while back, 2 player, we slept over three days at my house and we played it all the time, i had my ps2 on my room beside my bed so we played and played, the game time on the save file is only 32 hours but thats just cuz we fuckt up our chars so we had to make a new save file, everything into str on all chars aint a good choise :P
hey dude if you used morgul decay at the beginning, gandalf would have easily hit 13000+ damage with the bolt of valar. because it takes away all armor so..yeah.
haha I tried it yesterday against the balrog, and there was absolutely no difference :(. But if you find yourself in need of more morgul decays, go to helm's deep (after you've beaten it) and fight some uruk-hai in the courtyard and the treasure reward almost always includes morgul decay.
Lol I was playing this today but I don't understand one thing - when I was fighting those two trolls - one with a drum set and one normal one before this battle, you can see Gandalf fight Balrog! When I got to the boss fight, Balrog had full health. Gandalf did too, so I guess it's a give and take...
It is a fun game. I normally don't like this kind of battle set-up but it works for this. Visually it's incredible. Playing Evil Mode is pretty cool too although at times I do wish I could go past the battle screen and jsut run around as the Balrog. That would be AWESOME! The cutscenes are a bit silly at times, but ultimately I think it stands as a good LOTR game. I think the Fellowship of the Ring game is the best though cause you get to explore but this is still great. Definately a must play.
my favorite boss right here... but he takes forever to get to... mines of moria was huge.... its funny because he is probably the hardest boss to fight in the whole game... if you dont use the right skills.... and he kills gandalf pretty easily....
balrog is awesome!!!!!!!

berethors best sword does 250...
LostC0g 2 years ago
Wrong. He is right, if you do the second to last Evil Mode, you get a nice sword for Berethor. If you save that to a newly started campaign, Berethor will be a super tank powerhouse, and you should walk through the first 3/4 of the game uncontested. Its actually really fun to do that too lol.
cshepherd13 2 years ago
ok well mine best sword does 250 its called: 1st age mithril longsword of the valar.
But I can't find berethors best armor (numenorian steel armor) where can I find that?
LostC0g 2 years ago
@LostC0g
The sword of isildur does 205 damage and is unlocked after osgiliath evil mode

@cshepherd13 really for what is good evil mode???plz can u tell me dude?
nikoshaskas 2 years ago
You get rewards for playing Evil mode, like swords, shields, and elfstones. Things that you wont get anywhere else in the main game, and can only be acquired through Evil mode.
cshepherd13 2 years ago
Another thing I found out was useful in my last fight against the Balrog was the item, Bruinen Water. Equip it to Idrial and it will increase the damage of her Loudwater Fury attack.
GamingGenius 2 years ago
I found this out when I remembered a part of this video. The part where you used the item, "Arnor Mushrooms". So thanks for that aid!

No prob.

Mercury515 2 years ago
@Mercury515 just try doing this if u want 2 complete the game in about alltogether 12 hours it took me 13 hours
ChiefGibbo123 2 years ago
all i did was got my bro to complete the game then i starated a new game then i saved the new game and then i did osgiliath on evil mode if u do it u get a VERY VERY GOOD SWORD for berethor it can do 2000 damage in one hit so by by the time i got 2 the balrog i did ecthellinon wrath (the three hit combo) and killed the balrog in ONE HIT !!!!!!
ChiefGibbo123 2 years ago
The battle with the Balrog is one of the hardest battles in the game but the way of betting him is just to use Gandalf. You are only going to use him for damaging the Balrog and you're going to use Idrial as healer. The other guys are Tanks.
Ivversen 2 years ago
all i did is use gandolf and when he had low health i would just use items to restore it and if low ap i would use wizard drain
jared7645 2 years ago
You must've done all sorts of backtracking and random battles to learn royal grace and valorous haste. I tend to bring in Hadhod and have him do an Endure Flame to go with Company Resistance, and I'll use Gandalf's AP drain if the others need the AP's, but my strategy involves the use of Idrial's "insurance" move a lot more than you used it, and maybe some Stone Shields. There are many solutions in this game, and it's a fun fight, especially on Hard :-D.

where is a good place i could train my guys over and over to get good skills and shit? cuz i only have very few ones atm fighing this boss and he's proving to be a pain in the ass lol
dragonboy424 2 years ago
Just run in circles next to a save point and wait til the Sauron eye fills up and you get a battle. Then save your gameplay after the battle (or until you need to heal/refill HP), then repeat. Your guys should go up in a flash.
cshepherd13 2 years ago
Meant to say refill AP...
cshepherd13 2 years ago
by the time i got to this fight i had learned everyhitng by everyone since my navigation skills were so god awful ¬.¬
but i mainly just used gondor rampage (berethor) and deavastating shield+mountain shield (hadhod) aura+power of the valor (idrial) and gandalf just used lightning whenever possible + morgul decay at the beginnin :p
but yer the method in the vid is quite effective ^^
wobblybits6 2 years ago
he traind the guys good nice hp is good str good idrial need al their ap on magic hits fucking high then

your strategy is boring must be more action more attack

then dont watch my video...
cshepherd13 2 years ago
I just finished with this battle.
I used Hadhod, Idrial, and Berethor.
Trust me, it works =)

Im not sure exactly what level they were, but they were not very high, i basically did a speed run this time around. Usually, i train my people much better than this, but i was in a hurry lol.
cshepherd13 2 years ago
balrog of morgoth is very hard. but i find helm's deep harder
Peppepoppldoppl 2 years ago
Helm's Deep is the toughest battle in the game, at least imo.
cshepherd13 2 years ago
Here is a real chalenge! Beat the Balrog without Idrial!!!
Ainstain2008 2 years ago
That would be very challenging indeed lol
cshepherd13 2 years ago
You have a good strategy...
Ainstain2008 2 years ago
I normally use Hadhod as well, this is the only part of the game where the game basically tells you, "USE HADHOD!" lol. But on this go around, i decided to use Elegost instead.
cshepherd13 2 years ago
Ive tried several times, all my tries Ive only gotten to about halfway... I tried switching hadhod for Idrial, but I think the prob is I didnt use Idrial the ENTIRE way through Moria... so she is at the... her third spell, the greater healing one... and she has like 1200 HP

Nice vid, pal :D
I most saay that you are exellent in this game. I have the game too, and i think u are better than me!
Eikemafia1 2 years ago 2
Nice vid. This game was awesome, but it was a joke in terms of difficulty. If you really wanted to, you could just spam Idrial's Aura of the Valor and not have to worry about trying in 99% of the fights.
HobbsMadness 2 years ago
Thats an easy tactic, but towards the end, if you play on hard mode, the enemies can use attack which prevent Idrial's spirit attacks. If you dont pay attention, you could wind up losing to them, but simple items can get rid of that, i think Dwarven Ale gets rid of spirit paralysis, but im not 100% sure
cshepherd13 2 years ago
use frenzy? get her then berethor/your two best people. then just finish them....
fireemblemcolmowns 2 years ago
the best defence trick i know is to have gandolf use enduring shadow and hadhod use enduring flames since the balrog's attack is fire and shadow. the two defence spells will reduce the attack strengh of the balrog.

how you get 4 people in the battle i can opnly get like 3 and the 4th person doesnt show? o.o
jonathangarcia11 2 years ago
The only time you can have a 4th player is when a character from the original fellowship (besides the arrow guy whose name eludes me atm) join forces with you during boss battle (i.e. Gandalf, Aragorn, Legolas, etc.) You cannot have four players from YOUR party on the battlefield at the same time.
cshepherd13 2 years ago
when i fought the balrog when he used roar inferno and pillar of wrath everyone exapt gandalf get's destroyed!

Xman42635 2 years ago
hey dude if you used morgul decay at the beginning, gandalf would have easily hit 13000+ damage with the bolt of valar. because it takes away all armor so..yeah.
celticdoom98 2 years ago 2
true, but I prefer to save morgul decay for guys like Fellbeasts, Mumakil, and the Witch King.
GamingGenius 2 years ago 2
haha I tried it yesterday against the balrog, and there was absolutely no difference :(. But if you find yourself in need of more morgul decays, go to helm's deep (after you've beaten it) and fight some uruk-hai in the courtyard and the treasure reward almost always includes morgul decay.
celticdoom98 2 years ago
For the balrog be sure to have Aura of Valar and put it on every character 1st put on idrial lol then on gandalf then the 2 others ya got there :)
eqSlowed 2 years ago
Lol I was playing this today but I don't understand one thing - when I was fighting those two trolls - one with a drum set and one normal one before this battle, you can see Gandalf fight Balrog! When I got to the boss fight, Balrog had full health. Gandalf did too, so I guess it's a give and take...
SkullfaceMcfireball 2 years ago
maybe gandalf was just talking to the balrog when u saw him :P

Get Idrial to learn Aura of the Valar, and then just spam it on every character and its a win.
This also works on every other boss fight in the game.
Antlion666 2 years ago
