Did some of the guys decide to have an underwear run? I know it's the year 2000 (eons ago, I know), but I don't think those were shorts styles, even back then..... :P
SO close to being absolutely perfect. Tight, musical, It's incredible how they phrase their rolls and have such consistency from drummer to drummer. Probably one of my fave drumlines ever. I think I'm gonna watch it again. =)
@cwsmith73 It's all about sound quality. The technique was designed with that specifically in mind. And after playing it for a while, it actually is pretty natural.
A couple dirty moments (1:45 for example) But really that's all there is to it. Really tight playing, awesome phrasing, and great interpretation from drummer to drummer. This is also one of my fave front ensembles (possibly the best...forgive me if you disagree) that I've seen from the Cavies.
omg i love the cavies..... i remember when i saw this on tv when i was in highschool. Yelled out so loud when the snares were bobbin their heads to the grove part.
You are right, I am well respected. I don't care for all of the technical excuses. I base my actions on absolutes; if it sounds thick, then its dirty. Simple. My comment was for a few seconds of a 2 minute video. In no way was I shitting on them as you said.
oh you mean where the left hand goes to upper right edge of the the head, which should sound shorter/lighter than the center of the head, can you tell the difference?
i know this is 6 months ago, but i'm gonna have to back up my man tacomeet on this one, there are a lot of factors unaccounted for to make an objective judgement as to whether or not there is a "dirt fest" at 1:40 and beyond
some of what i heard that was distorted was more of the side-to-side relationship between subsections
In a way I wish the cavaliers would go back to the strict technique and kuhn days. I guess the past few years they had to change their styles due to the music being played (laid back stuff) but I have to say I miss the old days
Sickest line I've ever seen in the flesh. That may not say much for my years of watching lines, but these guys made you take a step back and assess what was really happening in front of you.
Sorry, not to overanalyze or overstate. These guys were the balls. End of story.
This was a great drumline... All in favor??? AYE!!!!!!!!
And you doubters... It's just so transparent that you've never done anything with your lives. It just is. Take it from and aging vet and enjoy sweet playing wherever you find it.
Oh yea after some thought its weird man not pounding accents i've never seen anything like it, its amazing and weird and out of this world!!!!!!!!! I can't believe I was such an idiot sorry friend.

Really interesting technique snare to snare. Wonder what the mentality was (beyond the obvious "Have absolutely no tension.")

nowhere, he/she doesnt realize how corps like these put so much intensity into a drum and still be relaxed

I also have to say that Cavies' snare technique is weird. There's also not too much emphasis on accents, it seems.
braquemar 4 years ago
well the idea is if there are 9 people doing it there is no need to overdo it, I think it sounds better that way.
