  • Seeing that freighter slice into the Queen of Victoria like butter makes me feel sick to my stomach. I sail on freighters and I can't imagine the panic on both bridges just before the collision.

  • B.C. ferries is what is called a monopoly. It is part of the Federal highway system so let the Canadian Government look after it. When Hawn was in charge he was getting around $1,000,000 were as the head of the Washington State run Ferries was getting less than $200,000 and like usual the famous GOLDEN HAND SHAKE Hawn's pension is over $300,000 per year and he is around 62 years of age so he likey has quite a few more years left.

  • Just A Dream

  • Was this filmed with a toaster?

  • sea linner of the year????????

  • it's all them ferry drivers smoking that BC bud... damn hippie canadians... lol

  • I've always loved the Ferry Ride from Vancouver to Victoria. Accidents happen on any mode of transportation. But BC Ferries is one of the largest and oldest ferry companies to this day and they're accident track record isn't that bad. And a bridge across the straight would cost alot of money. Not to mention you wouldnt get the beautiful scenery as you would by taking the ferry. Plus they've retired alot of their old ships and are bringing in new ones starting with the new "Super C's"

  • @KyOkanagan i swear to god if they do take ferrys away some one is gunna get it :)

  • thats ferry ferry bad

  • i thought the fairy fleet was a bunch of gay people?

  • It seems as though people and their pleasure crafts are just plain retarded. "Hey guys, let's get closer to that ferry and look at it". *DEAD*

  • no body takes on a soviet ship AND LIVES

  • fuck they built the chunnel- think of the jobs it would create

  • @bigezee69 this remark tell me that you are a lefty

  • Their payroll is totally unjustified. They have no competition, no performance standards. It's simply an extension of the highway system limited by weather. If you gave David Hahn an enema, he'd disappear.

  • Very sad. Skilled captains, not so skilled crew.

  • Thanks Libs!

  • It's called transportation, and accidents happen, It happens with cars all the time on a daily bases. And once in a while with a ship, a truck or a plane. It happens.

  • i like how the tape is damaged. it gives it a retro look :D

  • I remember the Queen of Victoria accident like it was yesterday. My family had been on an earlier sailing that day and we were freaked how easily we could have been on the doomed ship. As bad as the accident with the freighter was it could have been worse. The bow struck just to one side of the newly-installed enclosed observation decks on either side of the ship that were added when they installed the stretch. Had the bow plowed right through that deck it would have killed everyone inside.

  • fuckin idiots in their pleasure boats......do these dumasses think a B.C. Ferry can just pull an emergency brake on

  • I rode on this ferry from Prince Rupert to Port Hardy one year before it sank

  • Bad wish it never happened! But....

Finding your way home is so important!

    Let me guide you their....

    Mike McKillican

    Remax of Nanaimo

  • well the van one is the albertans fault they should've gone with a new one

  • Russians

  • does anyone remember hearing that they were going to make a bridge and they still havent?

  • @darthclone78

The MOT has done studies and estimates the cost of a bridge at 20 billion dollars. It would be one of the longest bridges in the world across the deepest water ever.

  • @leavebeaver2me holy sh*t thats alot of money!

  • @leavebeaver2me jesus christ really? We just made that golden ears one. I love that bridge, flew over it at 120 in no time. Beats the hell out of that 50+ minute ferry.

A bridge would be nice though lol.

  • @TheRagePassion

Uhh yeah crossing the Fraser River is nothing like the Strait of Georgia.

  • @leavebeaver2me I know, But it would be nice. BC ferries suck.

  • @TheRagePassion your mom sucks

  • @leavebeaver2me <30 miles? the worlds biggest is 102 miles....not even close to the worlds longest bridge.

We islanders just don't want you mainlanders to have easy access look what happened to Vancouver when they put the skydrain to surrey!

  • @TheyCallMeMrHappy

Most of those 100 km + long bridges are railway viaducts that cross several rivers and roads. We've only built bridges around 40 km over open ocean. Sure that's double the distance to Vancouver Island but Georgia Straight is deep.

  • @leavebeaver2me no. and a combo of floating sections and supported sections would do it. The worlds longest bridge is across a bay in China, The Jiaozhou Bay bridge is 26.4 miles long. The hardest part to overcome is only 12 miles and yes deep the mean depth is 512 ft...not impossible. It will be done some day and if we stop giving every ferry ceo 100's of thousands we could do it fairly quickly.

  • fail

  • I was on the queen of new Westminster a day before the queen of nanimo crashed into the dock

  • lolwut.....22 boats xD

  • I go on them every year and nothing has happened yet thankfully

  • STUPIF FERRY OPERATOR

I hope they do not sail EVER again

  • lol my cousin was on the ferry at the last one

  • they nned te hire new skippers ur sober up!!

  • wow they should be banned this bc couse so much accident or just stupid hired ferry drivers

  • wow they must have bad drivers or the other boats are like duh were stupid but its stiil sad

  • GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!!

  • Ha Ha they cant navigate and they steal our salmon. "NUKE THEM" i got a dui 10yrs ago and they wont let me in IDIOTS I was going to purchase a 1/4million dollar troller!

  • that ship is evil dude!...EVIL!

  • Lets be fair here, people. The number of accidents is actually quite small considering these ferries have been running nearly continuously, sixteen or more hours each day, over the last 50 years (since 1960) in very busy waters (many commercial, military, and private vessels in the area). Given the circumstances, occasional accidents are almost inevitable, yet few so far can be blamed on either ferries or crews.

  • Haha, i love what the announcer says at the end. 1:50

  • Wow them captains need to be re-tested.

  • I was on the Sealink collision in 1992. Got my ankle bashed by a panicking passenger

  • I went to the edge and I saw O J and he was lookin real scared

  • ive been on a Ferry boat in B.C! there like a cruise ship! and one time me and my dad went to the edge and we saw Jellyfish!

  • LOL BC Ferries must hire drunks, the last one was epic. Biffy and Buffy just docked their new 55' cruiser and frakkin BC takes it out. LOL EPIC FAIL!!

  • @gruvens What on earth are you talking about? Sounds like you're the one who's drunk.

  • I don't pilot a ferry so I can be drunk silly :-p

  • @gruvens I'm sure you would've slammed the ferry into the concrete dock and injured or killed possibly dozens of people instead of the marina then.

  • @leavebeaver2me I assume he was referring to friend of his "Biffy" and "Buffy" that apparently just purchased a 55 foot cruiser and docked it there, shortly after BC ferries ruining there new found treasure? That's the best i could get out of that.

  • @gruvens You think in that many years there isn't gunna be any accidents, they're huge ass hunks of metal they are bound to have a few mishaps. The only drunks were the Queen of the North Captain, Fail on his part.

  • @gruvens Queen of Oak Bay suffered an engine overspeed when a cotter-pin fell out of a throttle linkage and allowed the bolt to come loose. The overspeed triggered a total propulsion system shutdown. So having suddenly accelerated the ship now had no power. So all they could do was aim for a soft bit (Sewell's marina) and hope for the best. She had been drifting for four minutes before the slow motion crash.

  • @cageordie It was shoddy and cheap maintenance. The Master, who I knew personally, froze and didn't get the anchor (there's only one on these ships) ready until it was too late. The next day BCFC ordered all Masters to go into the bay with anchors cleared away and ready to drop. Sounds of retreating hooves as the stable door is bolted.

  • @gruvens THE LAST ONE WAS DUE TO COTTER PIN ESCAPING THE PROPELLER SO THE FERRY LOST POWER AND GOT FAST THEN THEY COULD ONLY STEAR

  • visita la web boatsport punto es

  • poor captains they tried to stop but the weather was bad

  • haha learn to sail i have only one thing to say to all this accidents ( only a real sailor will understand ) . . . . . . . _

  • and im sure u are an experienced captain and have driven boats this large all the time right

  • So idiots in pleasure boats cut in front of ferries, and that's BC Ferries fault? Nope. Pure Darwin.

  • christ ...that company must be cursed...worst safety record ever I imagine

  • B.C. ferries ... LOL! ? im not using them?

  • Bc ferrys have an impressive safety record

  • lol dam who the hell driving that thing....

  • Ships with variable pitch propellors have a 'Fail Safe' system for when the VP system fails. Unfortunately the fail safe inevitably put the prrops in astern mode. There have been numerous accidents due to this.

  • If your ships name has "Queen" in it, you're going to hit something. Simple as that.

  • @Legatob5 If your name has legatbob in it, you're bound to make stupid comments.

  • @vancanman2 Show me the intelligent remark in your comment asshole, then we'll decide if you've got anything worth saying, let alone reading.

  • @Legatob5 Thank you for proving my point.

  • @vancanman2 Your point was proving that only an elitist like you would miss the the intended dry humor of my original comment by trying (and failing) to defend queen and country. Hence, Asshole. Have a wonderful day.

  • @Legatob5 I might not have missed it if your "intended dry humour" had actually worked out. "Hence, Asshole" I already acknowledged that you had proven my point, but thank you.

  • @Legatob5 also the number of deaths will have a 3 in it (Y)

  • This is typical of the news blowing smoke up your ass. All a bunch of needless facts. Thanks why dont you ask the britts what happen to all there gold how about why the honkong is moving there gold and why the us has no more silver or gold in storage and why the chinese are selling silver and gold to there people for cheap.

  • what do you mean? i dont get it?

  • 1:50!! WTF lol

  • the proppeler stopped working, that only happend last year. and realy big ships cant stear worth a damn

  • lol i think the captain was drunk

  • jeez....

  • shut up idiot

  • no.

  • lol the insurance premium will be sky high for this company!!

  • As somebody that has taken the BC Ferrys more times than I can think of, I can honestly say...I can only hope one day they will build a bridge above water or underwater from Vancouver too Victoria! Stupid greedy BC Ferry's.

  • I.. dunno... on first viewing, it seems like most of these incidents where not the fault of the ferry operator (or their captains/crew).

Mind you, the one where a ferry runs aground is spectacular. Was this the inspiration for the movie "Speed 2: Cruise Control" ?

  • The last accident dealing with the sinking was definately the crew's fault. It was all over the news.

  • please watch my ferries and hovercrafts vid by morganwilson123

  • bad bad queen of victoria

  • that first clip is really cool raw footage

  • @chronzie99 It was probably taken with 8mm film, given the era it happened.

  • The Queen of Victoria was sold to some country in Central America. For the bargain price of five hundred thousand dollars. Somebody got one hell of a deal.

  • i've been on the spirit of vancouver island and nothing seems to be wrong plus how could the queen of victoria resume service and then be sold to some company in aisa after it got sliced in half after that retarded freighter hit it?? By the way i have never seen a freighter in the pass!!!!! And how could the queen of oak bay still be running???And i live in Victoria and it is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!except my schools staff sucks

  • 6 accidents and less than 10 fatalities (god bless them) is really not a bad record for transporting millions upon millions...... I mean more people get killed by icecream and rainbows.....

  • Ice cream and rainbows? Explain.

  • it's a joke, cuz they're harmless, you mental midget.

  • @79jer1979

What's a joke nutjob? These things did occur. Have you had fun going round youtube and calling people names tonight - sad that you don't have anything better to do.

  • @androsborsato

Agree. Especially since 1/2 the incidents sounds like it wasn't the fault of the ferries anyhow.

  • the name must be :problem ferries

  • Are a lot of the people who work for this company related ?

  • I Was on the Spirit Of Vancouver Island today , i didnt know anything about this accident, everything seems normal.

Look at my videos on it :)

  • that is funny and clever but not enough to make me comply

  • scary stuff lol

  • For everyone: The incident regarding the Queen of Oak Bay running a ground was a steering malfunction. As for the pleasure crafts that were crushed, under the Canada Shipping act all pleasure craft must stay clear of comercial vessels, and Comercial vessels must stay in marked shipping lanes.

And in the collision between the Russian ship and the B.C. ferry the B.C. ferry had right of way yet the Russian ship made no attempt to stay clear.

  • I bet no Russian Freighters are allowed to go through Active Pass anymore - I've never seen one anyway. I was 12 when this happened, living in Vancouver. I couldn't believe it then and I still can't.

  • @Picardy I was 9, our family had gone to Vancouver for a holiday the day before.

I remember seeing a picture in the paper of a man running on deck, I believe his wife and child were two of the people killed, they were below deck in their car is my memory serves.

and no there are no freighters at all allowed through there.

  • How Russian of them.

  • i wouldnt trust cruiseliners. the laws of the country you get on the boat when you leave dont apply when youre out in th emiddle of the ocean remarkably. theres been dozens of accounts of murder theft abduction and rape. and the cruiseliner companies ALWAYS get away with it.

  • the BC ferries never hit the open ocean, i don't think. I took one a couple years ago to get from the Mainland to Vancouver island so i could go to Victoria.

  • they should rename the company the big crushers!

  • im down for that

  • all these accidents..isnt this industry regulated....

  • holy crap somone should shut them down before more people die.

  • That was Sophie Lui from Global BC at the beginning!

  • Look, at the end, it's the trailer for Speed III, lol

  • what about the truck ferry crash ?

  • also, hey, hope you enjoy singapore or w/e, have a good one..lol

  • I guess I did go overboard and for that I am sorry. I just don't take kindly sometimes to agressive people. I should have came off less agressive

  • one last comment here...-take a knife, and bore a hole thru the 200 layers of paint on a typical bc ferries boat...you might find a reddish stain underneath that used to be metal >;)

  • i live on one of the gulf islands and my mom used to work on the ferries, some are simply 2 ships welded together, which isnt exactly the best way to make a boat lol..the fleet is mostly held together with paint anyways.. luckily most ply fairly sheltered waters or thered certainly be some sinkings imo ;p

  • The ferries are fine, it is the incompetent workers I am concerned about. I have served with former BC ferries personell and I tell you they are a royal pain in the ass, don't know there job that well, and shit their pants in weather that people on the East Coast consider mild seas. I am sure your mom is probally a good worker, but her union has got to go.

  • thats exactly what some govt person or head of corp would say...but ive lived here my whole life, so i think i know better than you about the ferries..ive been riding them since i was 5

  • BC ferries are likely not the most modern ferries, but they are by far not the worst in 1st world countries. I work as a Seafarer, third mate to be exact, and trust me if you think the fleet is bad, you haven't seen nothing yet.

  • and btw: the union is the only thing holding back even worse degredation of the already-ancient fleet..not to mention the fast-ferry fiasco costing hundreds of millions...who the fuck are you ro ralk to me about the bc ferries???? lol

  • The union is a joke - I am not against unions as I do like the SIU, but the workers on BC ferries are a joke. I have worked with them and trust me these idiots are not people who I would work with by choice. I have also talked to a person who have went to BC ferries to quit soon after joining. citing stupidity from other staff. Now the fast ferries were a joke and thank god we have outsourced conttruction to Germany for many of the new ferries

  • "who the fuck are you ro ralk to me about the bc ferries" Ralk eh, well I stated my current position - additionally I have served on countless vessels, been to every continent, literally lost track of how many countries I have sailed and travelled to. On numerous occasions I have seen the results of 2nd rate workmanship by both current and former union members. Like I said there are good unions, but the one governing BC ferries has to go.

  • You likely ride a ferry what once a week - you sit inside enjoying a nice mocha reading the paper (Yeah I can tell you are totally nauticallol) You have me who eats, lives, and breathes ships. While you sleep at night there is a good chance I am out on the Grand banks or Singapore with Secunda battling high seas and other crap that comes with working in the marine industry. 2/3 of my year is literally spent on board a Vessel and not some occasional trip on a glorified commuter ferry.

  • before i go back to my mocha instead of responding to the paragraphs of stuff, i just have one question:

    y so srs?

  • So Ferry Rider go back to sipping on your Mocha and quit playing wannabe on the net.

  • i was on a fuew of dos boats

  • I was on the queen of oak bay when it lost power, everyone was freakin' out, and i was going to be on the queen of the north when it sank but three weeks before the trip we changed out travel plans and we were on the third last voyage. that freaks me out a little, but i think i would survive, because bc ferries are very responceable and practice good safty.

  • that newsreader's quite smart...

  • OMG...Accidents happen!!!! Even in the 70s!!!

  • 95% were not ferrie's fault.

1.First guy thought he could slice right through the ferrie and continue on.

2.Second one sounds like the pleasure craft decided to play chicken with the ferrie.

3.Third guy sounds like he is impatient and thought he could beat the ferrie.

4.Albertan's are the worst driver's ever so that explains it.

5.Old people thought they could outrun one of the biggest bc ferries...

6.Last one the driver was drunk. But he didn't hurt anyone...huh

  • comeplety true i totaly agree

  • @taylor781 lol there is a new one now The Queen of Naniamo slammed into Mayne Island yesterday

  • WHy the fuck is that ship going around crashing into poeple.. Lmfaooo..

  • My friend was in that last accident, all the power on the ferry went out and everyone inside was screaming.

  • funny how people are afraid of the dark

  • I agree with nvanwendy! All the small boats got in the way of the ferries. The chinese familey it turns out was not even on deck wheb they got killed. As for the queen of the north yes two crew mwmbers were rumered to be doing the naughty. But that has not been proved. How do you run into an island?

  • If you discount idiot boaters (professional AND amateur), it definitely cuts down the number of accidents you can blame on BC Ferries (learn to spell, all you "ferry's" people). The Queen of the North sinking referred to is inexcusable, though, and certainly crew negligence.

  • So someone thinks the ocean is empty - have you looked around lately????? It's full of idots not knowing what the hell they are doing. Take notice - and why don't you need a licen to drive a boat?

  • Haha, gimme a break, it's the second largest passenger ferry company in the world, and has been run continously since the early 1900's. You want to see epic fails? Look up Phillipino ferry accidents, how about when the entire ferry catches fire and thousands of people die??

BC Ferries is run by competent crew, a few mishaps at sea is nothing out of the usually for any marine company.

  • omg... how do these accidents happen? these are far too simple to ignore!

how do you run into boats when the ocean is so big and empty!!!! ESPECIALLY IF YOU HIT THOSE BIG TANKERS! HOW CAN YOU HIT SOMETHING SO BIG IN A BIG EMPTY OCEAN!!!!!

    i dont get it...

  • retard

  • the retard is the captain that with even millions of dollars worth of "sophisticated" technology can't prevent a simple catastrophe. revise your brain and think before you make a 1 word statement.

    "RETARD"

  • only one of those insdences had anything to do with the crue.... and he got fired... all the rest were retards turing infront of the boat.. and the oakbay insdent was a mechanical failiour .......... ur a fuck shit

  • thanks for making a complete ass of yourself lol

    have a good day. :]

you need hooked on phonics, dude.

  • i cant believe what an idiot you are. gawd ur a fuck shit

  • wow ur one of those anemia faggots this makes all the beter

  • Wow dude. Honestly, I wish you can insult me on something better. Those 'anime' videos are my sisters. I'm not the only one that uses this computer. Maybe I should get her an account so you can stop trying to say "wow, you are gay! look at the anime you watch"

It's not insulting so I'll keep this account.

    Lates :)

  • dont use bc ferrys

  • i agree bc ferries suck

  • This sort of thing should be happening in America, not Canada. Canadians dont deserve this sort of thing , but Yanks do!

  • I'm glad to see that a country that prides itself on helping others has few people like you.

  • that boat has bad luck....that boat should-of been a reef at the bottom of the seas. build a new1...1 that dont kill people....

or get a new captain :)

  • I think you're a idiot.

  • what a clever answer !...

    what an insight ! ...

do you know how much ferry accident they had on the Channel since 30 years ???...

Incidents, yes. Accidents that put passengers lives at risk. NONE !...

    PERIOD.

And there is far more traffic here than there, you should know that, Mr Know It All.

  • I think you don't know what the fuck you are talking about. People living on Vancouver Island, and the Gulf Islands, DON'T HAVE A CHOICE in order to get to the mainland. Safety is of uptmost importance, I have travelled on these ferries as many times as fingers and toes we both have. I've NEVER seen a time when they have neglected passenger comfort and safety. South Asian countries have WAY more accidents with ferries than BC ferries has ever had

  • comparing a company from 1 of the more affluent country in the world with those from a 3rd world country is NOT an an argument in favor of the FORMER.

You should compare it with English, German, American or other countries.

Sorry to say that I DO KNOW "WHAT THE FUCK I AM TALKING ABOUT" as being a former captain of Brittany Ferries that has been crossing the Channel on several lines for more than 15 years. I NEVER heard of such an accumulation of mishaps on a single line of a single ferry company

  • Ok mr captain, ever hear of the Herald of Free Enterprise? 193 people died crossing that channel, so there goes your "100%" safe record out the window. It was caused by an incompetent, careless crew who didn't close the bloody bow doors on a RORO ferry. That was an english company too. 11 people have died in BC ferries hands.

Should I bring up the MV Estonia while im comparing 1st world country marine accidents?

  • Every major vessel has a black mark or two on its record, BC Ferries is no exception. WIth the sheer volume of people carried and sailings made each year, they are actually very safe. The Queen of the North sinking is with little doubt employee error (how the fuck do you sail into an island?), and the Queen of Oak Bay the same. Mechanical errors happen on any vessel, but that the crew was not able to drop an anchor after losing power and before hitting the dock is ridiculously poor seamanship.

  • Well yeah, the QotN was bullshit, I agree.

To be fair though, (and it's funny these happenings are within the private take-over), the crew were never instructed to stand watch by the anchor, which may or may not have prevented this happening. As written in the report, the Master ordered the anchor be dropped when it was too late (two minutes prior to grounding). Just a shame.

  • captian must be pissed!!!! or blind?

  • did someone jynx this thing or what?

  • why did they not pull up the hand brake....durrr....fucking dope heads....lol

  • the ship couldn't stop. It had a mechanical failure. The captain was credited for not crashing into the dock also for giving everyone an early warning.

  • the boats power shut down the captain ouldnt control shit all

  • lololololololololol drunk crivers
