Back when games had more imagination than graphics. Now we live in a time when the reverse is true. Why can't we strike a balance already. Hopefully for our sake the future will see another golden age in space sim gaming where both hold true.

I wish i could have played this to the end, but the windows version allways shutted down at the final mission. Had to see the ending by opening the videos directly. Awesome game, still, i liked WingCommander3 better for some reason. The Kilrathi were... a much more straightforward foe. Here you didnt knew who was enemy or who was friend, if you made the right choices. (Then again, thats why it had more depth i guess? )
Wing Commander 3 was the first game I played with halfway decent video. WC4 was probably the best of the DOS era. It ushered in a whole new era of gaming.

@Mrbandit81 Wing Commander 3 and 4 were the first video games to run on Pentium 1 ( you could run them on less but have sooo many bugs and slow downs it was silly) in 1995!! I think they had 6 compact disks each. Luke skywalker, Biff from Back to the Future and the amazing Malcolm McDowell - you can't really get a better game cast.
@kdraper2007 you can download wing commander 4 from the PS store on playstation 3 for PS3 or PSP. there is suppost to be a wing commander game availiable from XBox live store called Wing commander Armada. just keep in mind these games are 5-6 years old now.
This was the absolute epitome of well done full motion video cut scenes woven into an excellent game. Visuals are still are quite impressive. If I remember correctly this game cost 10 million dollars to make.
I stopped playing this game because it just annoyed me as there was one mission where your friend just keeps dying it ended the game... Couldn't figure out how to save him... Grr!

What a shame. The gaming industry really has gone "down the crapper". Game developers these days should learn from this and write a few that actually have decent stories to go along with them. All we get now is eye candy and repetitive franchise nonsense.
I played this game as a teenager and didn't realize Malcolm McDowell did other stuff, and now every time I see him on TV or in a movie I always remember him for this game first.
WC games will always have a special place in my heart! I played all of them to death!
This video came in a PC demo CD that was included in some gaming magazine I bought in the mid-90s, and I had played WC3 already when I saw this video demo. The demo disc had this video as one of its "demos" and I was psyched for the game as soon as I saw this! I hopped on to my favorite BBSes on my 14.4 Zoom and started raving about the great WC4 trailer!
Glad I never saw this trailer with all those spoilers before playing the game back in the day! I can never decide if I prefer WC3 or WC4... WC3 is perhaps the better-paced game/experience, and the more epic story IMO, but WC4 is the BETTER story, technically superb, and has more fun missions. I'm a B5 fan, but always think of WC4's story with the "succession from Earth" plot line in that show!

@gamefan1980 Just a word of warning this is the watered downed Play station one version. A lot of content and the graphics had been cut so they could squeeze it on four PS1 discs.
I would have actucally wanted to watch this 10 times more than the real Wing Commander movie. This would have been better. Why did that dumbass director slaughter the WC franchise? Why!?
That dumbass director is the designer of the games - Chris Roberts. God only knows why he did so well with WC III & IV but sucked so badly at the movie.
@fmvgamer I still can't understand why the movie is SO bad, yet WC3 & WC4 are so utterly fantastic as "movies" as well as games. A genuine mystery (and a shame since the awful movie helped slam the franchise into the dirt big-time IMO).
@nicoagudelo The studio did interfere. The shooting schedule was shortened drastically, meaning they only got to shoot about 1/3 of what was planned. Several subplots were deemed too complex for the intended audience and were dropped. The end result was a movie thrown together from the crap footage that would have been left on the cutting room floor.
Rumor has it that Chris Roberts cried the first time he saw the final cut, and I can't say I blame him.
hi sid wingcommander got me into pc's had WC on my amiga. yeh i had a 486dx2 66 et4000 graphics and sb2 great spec in 92 :) all the WC games are great even now with dos box they live again.
PlayStation Network. AKA PlayStation store. You can buy a lot of old playstation classics like Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy 7 off of it and play them on the PS3 and PSP
OMG, that guy, that chinese pilot I dont remember his name, Vagabond may be. He's that chinese scientist from Dharma initiative in the LOST TV series, lol. I did know I knew that guy from somewhere.
Speaking of props and production anyone realised that the whole setting is similar to Babylon 5, which at the time of this games release was a popular hit in both UK and US television.
Without prior knowledge to either game or show, you may think they both belonged in the same franchise :D.
Anyway, this game was undoubtably one of the best games ever and at its time was at the pinnacle of the interactive movie era.
It's cool that Mark Hamill appears in WIng Commander. Too bad that he didn't appear in any of the Star Wars games.
(The only SW actors who appeared in SW games are Denis Lawson (Wedge Antilles) In Rogue Leader and Billy Dee Williams (Lando Carlrissian) in Jedi Outcast btw)
The movie also had a horrible script, an unrelated universe with a huge Jedi-Savior sub-plot, and so forth.
Chris Roberts is an idiot. He's dicked up everything he's touched since WC1. WC2, Privateer, the expansions and 4 were good because he had nothing at all to do with them. And God, just look at what his brother did with Privateer 2.
The only reason Freelancer turned out alright was them firing him.
I'll be glad if he stays out of the industry, honestly.
I gotta agree. Chris is awesome for making the first game (obviously) and he did a decent job on WC3. But the movie was simply an ASTRONOMICAL failure. It's every single scene made me cringe and my toes wouldn't uncurl until the end credits. I simply felt dirty for watching it. It was THAT horrible.
Yeah, I honestly guess I could equate him to "Lucas Syndrome," where in yes - he did invent one of the best franchises in computer gaming beloved by many, but the best installments were not directed by him (I guess that makes WC2 and Privateer the series Empire), and everything he tried to do after the main series was mind bogglingly horrible.
One of the best games of all time.

This was the absolute epitome of well done full motion video cut scenes woven into an excellent game. Visuals are still are quite impressive. If I remember correctly this game cost 10 million dollars to make.

I stopped playing this game because it just annoyed me as there was one mission where your friend just keeps dying it ended the game... Couldn't figure out how to save him... Grr!

What a shame. The gaming industry really has gone "down the crapper". Game developers these days should learn from this and write a few that actually have decent stories to go along with them. All we get now is eye candy and repetitive franchise nonsense.

I played this game as a teenager and didn't realize Malcolm McDowell did other stuff, and now every time I see him on TV or in a movie I always remember him for this game first.
WC games will always have a special place in my heart! I played all of them to death!

This video came in a PC demo CD that was included in some gaming magazine I bought in the mid-90s, and I had played WC3 already when I saw this video demo. The demo disc had this video as one of its "demos" and I was psyched for the game as soon as I saw this! I hopped on to my favorite BBSes on my 14.4 Zoom and started raving about the great WC4 trailer!

Glad I never saw this trailer with all those spoilers before playing the game back in the day! I can never decide if I prefer WC3 or WC4... WC3 is perhaps the better-paced game/experience, and the more epic story IMO, but WC4 is the BETTER story, technically superb, and has more fun missions. I'm a B5 fan, but always think of WC4's story with the "succession from Earth" plot line in that show!

@gamefan1980 Just a word of warning this is the watered downed Play station one version. A lot of content and the graphics had been cut so they could squeeze it on four PS1 discs.

That dumbass director is the designer of the games - Chris Roberts. God only knows why he did so well with WC III & IV but sucked so badly at the movie.

@nicoagudelo The studio did interfere. The shooting schedule was shortened drastically, meaning they only got to shoot about 1/3 of what was planned. Several subplots were deemed too complex for the intended audience and were dropped. The end result was a movie thrown together from the crap footage that would have been left on the cutting room floor.
Rumor has it that Chris Roberts cried the first time he saw the final cut, and I can't say I blame him.

hi sid wingcommander got me into pc's had WC on my amiga. yeh i had a 486dx2 66 et4000 graphics and sb2 great spec in 92 :) all the WC games are great even now with dos box they live again.

PlayStation Network. AKA PlayStation store. You can buy a lot of old playstation classics like Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy 7 off of it and play them on the PS3 and PSP

Speaking of props and production anyone realised that the whole setting is similar to Babylon 5, which at the time of this games release was a popular hit in both UK and US television.
Without prior knowledge to either game or show, you may think they both belonged in the same franchise :D.
Anyway, this game was undoubtably one of the best games ever and at its time was at the pinnacle of the interactive movie era.

It's cool that Mark Hamill appears in WIng Commander. Too bad that he didn't appear in any of the Star Wars games.
(The only SW actors who appeared in SW games are Denis Lawson (Wedge Antilles) In Rogue Leader and Billy Dee Williams (Lando Carlrissian) in Jedi Outcast btw)

The movie also had a horrible script, an unrelated universe with a huge Jedi-Savior sub-plot, and so forth.
Chris Roberts is an idiot. He's dicked up everything he's touched since WC1. WC2, Privateer, the expansions and 4 were good because he had nothing at all to do with them. And God, just look at what his brother did with Privateer 2.
The only reason Freelancer turned out alright was them firing him.
I'll be glad if he stays out of the industry, honestly.

I gotta agree. Chris is awesome for making the first game (obviously) and he did a decent job on WC3. But the movie was simply an ASTRONOMICAL failure. It's every single scene made me cringe and my toes wouldn't uncurl until the end credits. I simply felt dirty for watching it. It was THAT horrible.

Yeah, I honestly guess I could equate him to "Lucas Syndrome," where in yes - he did invent one of the best franchises in computer gaming beloved by many, but the best installments were not directed by him (I guess that makes WC2 and Privateer the series Empire), and everything he tried to do after the main series was mind bogglingly horrible.
