  • Art is best enjoyed with the "right brain". They are using the wrong senses. Critiquing a movie in this way, i.e. academically analyzing, talking about, writing about it, is like trying to enjoy how music smells.

  • @JohnHolmesFukYoMama

    You're really funny. You're a funny guy.

  • What's all that garbage about guilt, guilt after the movie etc.? Really? What about how much a movie immerses you in it, the quality of the acting and the timing, and how realistic the characters are? In other words, you enjoy the movie due to it's quality, and don't try to inject a bunch of phony, English Lit class, film school, pontificating crap into it.

  • I never agreed obviously with some of their reviews but I miss this tandem. great show.

  • I will ignore the imposter Kelly green

  • Look at Ebert. If he directs your tastes, it screams about you

  • @TheDeeFormed It screams damn good taste. He won the first Pulitzer Prize for film criticism.

  • @angryliberal1984 If your idea of 'good taste" is this ugly hick who co wrote failed porn such as "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls", you have told us all about you

  • @TheDeeFormed Just out curiosity, you realize he is a widely respected film critic, right? They don't give out Pulitzer Prizes like candy, do they?

  • Siskel and Ebert are brilliant.

Disregard the cowardly moron below - KellyGreen5556 - who hacks accounts and then posts garbage.

  • @KellyGreen5555 You hacked my account. I am the real Kelly Green, you are a look alike of the drunkard Ebert

  • Number 1 on my top twenty favorite films of all time. This film is awesome.

  • @marvelfan12 It's number 1 on my top 20 as well. But number 2 on my top 45.

  • @JohnHolmesFukYoMama

    I prefer Deepthroat myself....

  • Somebody at the Oscars clearly doesn't like Martin Scorsese, he should of won at least 4 best Director Awards, his first finally came in 2006 and "The Departed" yes a good film but it isn't one of his better films.

  • @5eurocups2005 yup aviator, raging bull, goodfellas, and taxi driver all should've won and i feel casino got robbed

  • @jhop4life There was a rumor going round a few years ago about how there were people at the Oscars having something against Martin and also Michael Mann, Mann should of won Oscars as well with films like Heat, The Insider and Collateral

  • I prefer Casino.

  • @FreeArtFreestheWorld me too since there's more joe pesci scenes in it hah.

  • "i settle down with a girl almost every night ma"

  • @Kronicyumyum

I like this one. One dog goes one way, and the other dog goes the other way, and this guy's sayin' "What do you want from me".

    Looks like someone we know.

  • Everyone here loves to attack Roger Ebert's look, and it's sickening. So, he looks ugly, who cares? He's the best reviewer out there, and I never got to see Gene Siskel, but even in these old reviews, I prefer Ebert, not because I agree with him, but because he articulates things so amazingly. Now he made a mistake with that ridiculous Ryan Dunn comment, but we all make mistakes in life, so stop holding that comment and his appearance against him.

  • @TonyMaster007 These little creeps are just sore that Ebert spoke the truth about the Jackass star who died due to the fact that he was drinking and driving. The shocking thing is that Ryan didn't die sooner, as his family and friends state that this was normal behavior for him.

So what do these idiots do? They post vile comments about Ebert - a cancer survivor - and hack Youtube accounts.

  • I'm hip. I'm cool. I'm 65

  • You can't get worse looking than Ebert. Who would seek his advice when he has always been so tasteless?

  • @TheDeeFormed feel better? i doubt it.

  • @TheDeeFormed can I be friends with you? You obviously need some, you're too negative!

  • He says "these guys are scum" in an artful and beautiful way

  • EBERT=UGLY

    FANS=LOSERS FROM ANOTHER CENTURY

  • @TheBitchinbabs you're a wonderful person, you need hugs from everyone. Cmon guys lets give him a hug, make him feel better.

  • @cancerfider50 You are an internet troll who signed up today to mask your cowardly self. Too bad you hate being ugly and cancer ridden but, face it, you are. Ebert was no Lincoln. He is a 3rd rate failed sleaze writer ("Beyond the Valley of the Dolls") and former drunk who pompously pontificates now about drinking. Take you potty mouth and go seek mental therapy in addition to your cancer therapy. Your stalking people will backfire. I love it. Will post more.

  • @TheBitchinbabs I'm sorry, did you say you'd "post" more? I'm sorry, I thought all you did was copy-paste the same bullshit over and over and over, on every Ebert video you can find.

  • ebert makes money off other people's work.

  • Robert Dinero = Born to play a gangster

  • Comment removed

  • Ebert is ugly

  • Karen!

  • @RandiSierra LOL made me laugh

  • I loved this movie so much, I got a huge poster of the movie looking at me right now. And it looks like Robert De Niro approves of Siskel and Ebert's opinion

  • You know my mother doesn't understand why people think this movie's so good. Really weird

  • the oscar's should go home and get their shine box.

  • the oscars is just bullshit :(

  • My favorite of all time.

  • For ME this is what Godfather PT3 SHOULD'VE BEEN

  • @JudasAngel666 AHMEN!

  • Goodfellas is awesome.Period.

  • Easily one of the best films of all-time. Liotta is fantastic, so strange that he had basically no career after this.

  • The Godfather is far from boring and if you think it is, you're a fucking idiot.

BUT, I still think Goodfellas is better than The Godfather as well.

  • Should have won best picture

  • great fucken movie.

  • @ovarylicker amen to that brotha!

  • Goodfellas is waaaaay better then The Godfather! Ive tried to watch The Godfather like6 times and I fall asleep or turn it off. It's Boring, yes I said it... edit out 45 minutes of it, you wouldnt even miss those cut scenes.. The second one is way better, but still not as good as Goodfellas

  • I could watch the Coppa Club scene all day. The camera followed Henry and Karen all the way to their table in one take...amazing directing and acting.

  • I think what makes a great film is the ability to watch it again and again and find something new each time. Goodfellas has that ability times ten.

  • @lonelygnome1 Couldnt agree more. This movie is accurate, and entertaining as well.

  • Comment removed

  • I bought this movie on Bluray. So awesome film

  • Dances with Wolves was awesome, but Goodfellas is clearly superior.

  • -"What do you mean 'don't be like that'?" [smash]

    -"Ha ha ha ha ha!"

  • 3:28 "Mhm, mhm."

  • "Now go home and get your fucking shine-box!!!"

  • What's with these two and their obsession with the fucking mob?? It's demented.

  • @JohnFernelius Goodfellas is a great movie there is no doubt about that...However The Godfather is better.

  • @Envenomed69 The Godfather is a great cure for insomnia.

  • casino is better

  • way to begin an episode! :D

  • movie sucked

  • @Razersun Ya know somethin'? YOU SUCK.

  • @CoolerKing37

    No, YOU SUCK.

  • @Razersun I couldn't understand you. You're sucking too much.

  • @CoolerKing37

    No, you sucking too much.

  • @Razersun

    Moron

  • RIP Ray Liota. You WILL be missed.

  • @rufusbaron Ray Liotta hasn't died yet, wikipedia confirms it.

  • @rufusbaron You do realize that Ray Liotta is still alive?

  • @rufusbaron Ray Liotta is still alive he is 56 for gods sake, why would you say he's dead? He actually in the middle of doing a Film Cogan's Trade.

  • I love Gene Siskel's aside about Roger Ebert, "I've never done that to you, onscreen" as he was talking about Joe Pesci's performance and his exploding anger at being insulted.

  • @50bhhamnt . why did you remove your comment? you typed to me: "@SparksDrinker I'm afraid your Aunt Helen is a dumb bitch. Sorry man." . well don't be sorry, i never said she wasn't, but that really wasn't the point. there are a lot of dumb bitches out there that would walk out after the opening scene. your original comment was silly.

  • @50bhhamnt my aunt helen watched the opening and decided she didnt like it so she left the theater. your premise is shattered.

  • Better than the godfathers in some ways, but not all. I liked Godfather II where pacino is the lead the best I think, and that film, Goodfellas, and Scarface pretty much round out the best modern crime films.

  • The music really works well in this movie :D

  • @xaxie1 i know the violinist in the copa scene. great film

  • @Razersun

    lol?

  • LET'S CUT THE CRAP

    GOODFELLAS

    IS

    THE

    BEST

    MOVIE

    OF ALL TIME

  • @MrStonecold69 in your opinion.

  • I have DAMN NEAR worn my DVD of this BRILLIANT movie OUT!!!!!!!!! And when I do wear it out - I'll go buy another copy!!!!!!!!

  • such a great movie

  • ScorSESe I thought it was scorSASe, my whole world turned upside down.

  • Goodfellas is a masterpiece, one of the best films ever.

  • One of the greatest movies ever!

Dances With Wolves? Piece of crap.

  • @50bhhamnt I agree so much that I had to reply to you. Its actually one of the best openings ever! It grabs you and never lets go.

  • I'm funny how? Like a clown? Do I amuse you? GoodFellas is in my top 5 favorite movies of all time.

  • @nickmordo what are your 4 other favorite movies?

  • @Freeskier475 Taxi Driver, Shawshank Redemption, Blow, Pulp Fiction, Big Lebowski

  • high on drugs?!?

    uh oh

lol what a funny way to say that, RIP Gene

  • goodfellas & raging bull are in the top 10 films ever made. taxi driver & casino wouldnt be to far away either.

  • @tdv123456 YOU DONT WATSH ALOT OF MOVIES DO YOU TOP 15 IDIOT

  • @dacritter I don't know what it means to "watsh" something sorry.

  • is that the best you can do a misspelled letter ,your still a fuckin idiot

  • This is a great film. I first watched this film just a week in a half after the 9/11 attacks and I hated the film. And I think it was because the film was violent and the last thing I wanna see is a violent film at that time.

  • This might have been the only Scorsese film where De Niro didn't stand out.

  • @LPfanatic102 de niro didnt stand out cause his character didnt appear as much, but he still gives a great performance. when he finds out that tommy (pesci) got whacked, thats one of my fave scenes right there.

  • i remember seeing this in college...scorsese's mother makes this film much better... the most underrated actor in the movie

  • Amazingly, the studio executives (and first test screenings) didn't like this film very much while they loved The Bonfire of the Vanities. Imagine their shock after both films came out. Fortunately Scorsese didn't try to make the characters any more likable, as the studio wanted him to do.

  • @DistinguishedFlyer oh yes he did, I don't want to diminish this movie, it's a great film, but if you read about the real life characters they are much, much more vile than these fellas, scorsese made them more bearable, this would have been an horror film otherwise

  • I meant that he didn't make any changes after the previews.

  • This movie is considered as the best gangster movie after The godfather. And the best film of the 90's....I don't think so and just because many people considers only american pictures. On the other hand It's a very good movie but somehow I kinda felt I fed up with gangs stories.

  • I think The Godfather is a way better film, the importance of family and values is shown in a much better light.

Goodfellas is a good film but it shows no values whatsoever. Maybe it's not about that but it's not the definitive Mafia film.

  • I love Goodfellas, one of my favorite films, but The Godfather and Godfather 2 are superior

  • But to be fair, I'm open to hearing the moron explain why this guy should like Godfather better simply because a bunch of other guys did.

  • goodfellas rule..... casino was better... contrary to popular belief....... gimeny glick or roger ebert!?!?!??!? lol

  • @50bhhamnt thats true, even when the edited version plays on tv, no matter what part of the movie is playing i end up watching the whole thing.

  • goodfellas should of beaten the buffalo at the oscars

  • The best film I have ever ever seen.

  • Goodfellas was far superior to Godfather. Godfather romanticized the mob too much, whereas Goodfellas cut through the superficial glamour and really showed the ugliness of the criminal lifestyle.

  • Couldnt have said it better, the Godfather is based on fiction and never portrayed the ugly lewd nature the people of the mob really are. The only intellectuals they have are the jews and business puppets working for them.

  • Is that why critics and directors consistently rate The Godfather as one of the five greatest films of all time?

  • Oh look, a moron. Hello moron.

  • Comment removed

  • Some guy says that Goodfellas is better than The Godfather and I claim that the vast majority of critics and distinguished directors respectfully disagree and I'm a "moron"? You don't believe me, check out the 2002 Sight & Sound list or the recent theyshootpictures list (the two most distinguished lists in film criticism).

So why don't you take your dumb ass and slither back under that rock you crawled out from under. Moron.

  • We are all entitled to our own opinions. You're not a moron and he's not a moron. What if Godfather was better than Goodfellas? What if Goodfellas was better than Godfather? Will it benefit anybody?

  • In the top 10 greatest films of all time.

  • if u hate this movie u dont understand great movie and cant call yourself a fan of film go back to watching some slapstick comedy or something

  • this movie had crap pacing, the ending was aweful and i had to try to keep my attention, on the other hand, the first godfather film kept me glued to the tv, it knew how to get and keep my attention, and it had a satisfying ending that made me want to see more, goodfellas, both me and my brother watched it and we couldnt care less what happens to the characters

  • crap pacing that was the best thing about it, it went at a rip roaring pace it is the best mob movie of all time i love the godfather but as a mob movie this is better surely u had to at least like joe pesci's performance

  • yes i liked joe in this one, the only thing i liked actually lol

  • WTF are you talking about. Get your head out of your ass. This movie is an all time classic and its based on a true story. Too bad none of these guys crossed paths with your gay ass to knock some sense into you

  • It's a true story dick head.

  • @GearsOfChainsaw

It's a true story, yes, yet Henry Hill admits that they took liberties with alot of the material. For example, Hill admits that he "whacked" three guys, yet this is never mentioned in the film.

Still a great film, which one will return to again and again.

They don't make em like they used to, not even Scorcese makes em like this anymore. That said, he don't have the same calibre of actors either.

  • Fantastic movie, way better than the overrated phenomenon known as the Godfather.

  • I completely agree!!!!!

  • i know its your opinion, but wow dude, terrible comment, worst i ever saw, god father kept my interest 100% through, i had to TRY to keep my attention off my toe nails watching good fellas

  • @davidkolo

well, to tell the truth, I didn't see the entire Godfather, just most of it. So I can't really form an opinion.

  • throughout the 4th minute (3:00-4:00), while Gene is talking, Roger just goes Ahhhm Ahhhm all the time, pretty oddly funny

  • with the huge buzz around avatar, i saw it and the first comparison that came into my mind was this film, oddly enough. in both, the directors create entire worlds. avatar's world is visually stunning, but so is scorcese's. goodfellas is intellectually and emotionally stimulating, while avatar was a simplifyied metaphor of baby boomer naivete and guilt. see avatar, enjoy it, but watch this film to experience what a real masterpiece is.

  • What's amazing about the movie is that you can not like a single character in the entire movie, yet still be enthralled by it.

  • This one is IT fellas.

    THIS IS THE ONE.

My single favorite movie of all time! Goodfellas. Scorsese does it better than anyone else in this movie.

Goodfellas is right at the top of my list which includes: Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Schindler's List, Shawshank Redemption, Godfather 1 & 2, Heat, Saving Private Ryan, Unforgiven, Dances with Wolves, Forrest Gump, and other greats (note: I've not seen too many films from before 1980s)

  • I like this. :) Goodfellas is actually my number 1 movie of all time, I never get tired of watching it.

  • I still can't believe this movie lost the Oscar to Dancing with Wolves.

  • @KovyOMGPewPew i'm even more in shock that kevin costner beat scorsese to the director oscar... that shocks me even more than this picture losing to dances with wolves. both are great films, but this was better

  • @KovyOMGPewPew I KNOW, the only thing worse was saving private ryan losing to shakespeare in love

  • @KovyOMGPewPew Thats Bullshit this movie should have won.

  • @KovyOMGPewPew right?!! i like to think that his oscar for the departed was just an apology for that

  • @KovyOMGPewPew

LOL. Get over it. For the price tag, Dances With Wolves totally deserved that Oscar. It is a truly magical film, made for nothing.

  • @LukeLovesRose Err...Dances With Wolves had a budget of $19 million which is fairly standard for a studio picture, and only $6 million less than Goodfellas.

  • @LukeLovesRose Goodfellas >>>>>>>>>>>>> Dances With Wolves.

  • @LukeLovesRose Dances with Wolves is a cliched story driven by white guilt in which, guess what, the white man is still better than the natives, only now he's better at being a native. There's nothing magical about that. I got nothing against Kostner-as an actor. He needs to stay on that side of the camera. Whereas Goodfellas is just the best directed and best shot movie ever made.

  • @KovyOMGPewPew In ten years people are going say the same thing about The kings speech and the superior social network ...

  • Greatest movie ever, in my opinion, even better than oth Godfathers. Movie is just spectacular.

  • i agree. godfather is very close, but this is one of my favorite movies of all time, let knowing gangster movies. awesome. awesome. do a couple little fuckin steps for me there, spider.

  • I loved Goodfellas, one of my all time favorites.

  • I've had a nightmare where Joe Pesci asks me to get in the front seat of a car with him in the back seat, holding a screwdriver..."get in the cah"

His character truly terrifies me in this film.

  • I enjoyed this movie more than The Godfather

  • Henry was such a sleaze. Read the book.

  • Na. Henry Hill was half irish/itallian

  • i thought the Henry Hill character was half jewish?

Also, i think Scorsese's best film to date, and the one he should have won his first Oscar for Best Director...is Gangs of New York...and how Daniel Day Lewis didn't win best actor for that film...is a tragedy...up there with Shakespeare in Love winning best picture over Saving Private Ryan... oh well, fuck the Oscars...

  • but Adrien Brody(who did win the award for Best Actor) was amazing in The Pianist, and 100% deserved the award.

  • Adrien Brody over Daniel Day Lewis for best actor? Ummm...not so much.

  • GoNY wasn't one of the defining performances of DDL's career; his work in There Will Be Blood and My Left Foot, the films he did win oscars for, will be remembered for far longer than GoNY(which wasn't even a defining work of Scorsese). Brody's work in The Pianist is a revelation; have you even watched it? Or are you another one of those "DDL is the greatest actor of all time and everyone else pales in comparison END OF STORY" purists?

  • Ironic he had to make a movie in Boston to finally win an Oscar.

  • he got one for the movie with leo decaprio? i can NOT think of the name right now, but i own it.

  • That's the one I mentioned. It's called The Departed.

  • 4:11. my pop's that way

  • Goodfellas is a great film because it breaks new grounds and its something we have never really witness something so powerful before. Ebert is rite though this film is more about guilt and its very sad that henry hill still wanted to do those nasty things.

  • does any one know where i can find these guys review for Jurassic Park? (1993), the frist one.

  • DIE FRIST IST UM...

  • one of the best films of all time. a goog rwiev

  • Scorsese is unlike any artist I've seen where the older he gets, the better he gets.
