  • Did u use the 2 cylinder generic sound set? Sounds cool.

  • whistle. Niice. What route is that?

  • Guys this is definitely vaporware...

  • Where can I download this? These locomotives are great!

  • Are they avavilable for free on the Internet yet? Please reply.

  • Sounds like the N&W 1218 whistle...nice video.

  • hey man love ur video the C&O allgheny rocked

  • Hey man do you have have a facebook not to bug u or anyhting but i have a group on there about C&O steam

  • WHERE CAN DOWNLOAD IT?

    thankz

  • Awsome whistle! Hey, how do you create a msts steam loco? I mean, what do you use, because this looks awsome!

  • gotta love that whistle!!

  • Where can i get this to add to my train simulator game? Is there a certain route i have to have to get this?

  • where did you get the Alleghenie steam engein?

  • I'm telling you right now, the bearings may be better, but 1604's boiler is not good. Hidden from sight, there is a hole about a meter in diameter on the right side under the first pair of cylinders. We asked the museum and they said it would cost close to 1 million to get her running again. If I were you I would count on 1601 not 1604.

  • @barronzm For any class 1 mainline steam locomotive, you should always expect a million plus in expenses to get them running again.

  • Unfortunately only one operational Allegheny (still dripping oil) survives. Seeing as it is housed in a private collection as a museum piece in a controlled environment inside a building, It is doubtful it will ever run again. But potentially it could. From what I hear, the only other Allegheny still in existence is non-operational.

  • No opperational Alleghenys are left. The one in the best COSMETICAL condition is the one at the Henry Ford Museum, #1601. 1601 has not been moved an inch since it was givin the the museum, so the berrings are pratically flattened. The 1604 at the B&O Museum is not in good cosmetical condition but has a better boiler and berrings because it has been moved about 4 or 5 times since it was retired.

  • Why are they retired now? They were pretty strong.

  • coal became more expensive.

  • Can someone tell me where I might find a good sound decoder and speakers that would allow me to get this husky sound into two Rivarossi Allegheny locos I have.

Most of the ones I've heard on the market are not this good.

  • tsunami heavy steam. got one in mine.

  • And how did you arrange the speaker(s)? One big oval one or two round ones? If a pair, did you series wire them, or parallel?. Are they pointed down in the tender ,or up thru the coal load? Are they the newer hi-bass speakers?

  • two one inch round ones wired in parallel. one pointed down in the tender the other out the coal load. they arent the hi bass speakers though. i just bought the southern steam tsu 1000 heavy steam today. i'll get it installed tomorrow. the southern single chime sounds very similar to the actual c&o whistle used on the h-8. check it out on soundtraxx's site.

  • The C&O just never had a job that this engine could do. It was just wasting it's impressive performance on hauling coal on slow steep grades... The Big Boy could pull a train five miles long on a flat grade. I imagine the Allegheny could do that and probably a little more.

  • @lawrence142002 no the allegheny was perfect for the job c&o designed it to do i dont think the bigboy could do this or any other super powered engine could pull all the cars over the steep grades as the c&o allegheny did

  • the hooter whistle sounds better on an N&W Class A ;)..hehe

  • your right..to some extent. they were the heaviest, most powerful locomotives built. but get your facts right, C&O kicks ass! keep the N&W out of C&O territory. =P

  • not overrated, just never given the oppurtunity to show what it could do. well, not until it was too late.

  • Just a question, does the echoing occur for every engine on the route, or is it just the whistle file?

  • I just noticed. No caboose. It goes behind the pusher engine.

Apparently, this is all working up from Hinton to the Alleghany Tunnel. Wonder if you could simulate brake/retainer smoke on the run down to Covington, VA?

  • I am a fan of the Allegheny. I wish 1601 would be restored to operation. Talk about big steam. The east coast would truly have the most powerful loco in action in the world. An LIMA built it!! Go Lima!!!

  • While that would be undeniably cool, it will never, ever happen. There's not a railroad out there today that would let that thing on its track. It's way, way too heavy.

  • AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!love the sound affects

  • chesepeake and ohio alleghnies have the same whistle as Norfolk and Western 1218

  • no it doesnt.

  • my grandfather told me about how the buildings around the train yard would shake every time one of these beast would pass by

  • Where and is there any real footage of this monster working? I saw the video at the Henry Ford museum, but haven't seen any other. Amazing giant!

  • yeah it is haha.. melancholic but BEAUTIFUL!

  • They think that they were more powerful

thant the Union Pacific Big Boy's. It's a shame that they never put them behiind a

time freight to see what they could do.

  • the Union Pacific Big Boy is overrated I think. the C&O Allegheny had more power than the Big Boy. i know that don't sound true but, if you look closely, the Allegheny has a bigger firebox than the UP Big Boy because there's 6 wheels that hold the weight of the firebox

  • what about the Yellowstones? I rarely hear anybody talk about them

  • the B&O Yellowstones (2-8-8-4) were powerful locomotives.. they carried mostly coal east of the Alleghenies. None of the yellowstones are around.. all have been scrap. And I don't not hear the B&O Big Sixes (2-10-2) mentioned a whole lot either. The Big Sixes were assigned alot on the B&O's Sand Patch grade on the Pittsburgh Division. my godfather was a fireman and then became an engineer by during the last years when the Big Sixes were being used

  • I know that the Yellowstones the DM&I had are still around 2 if I'm not mistaken

  • Just the weight of the tender on an Allegheny is equal to, or more than that of a 2-8-2 Mike.

  • According to a lot of sources the Allegheny had 8000 HP and the Big Boy only at 6290 HP.

  • yep the Allegheny had the most horsepower compared to the Big Boy and its firebox was bigger than the Big Boy. many people have mistaken the Big Boy as the most powerful locomotive. The Allegheny puts the Big Boy to shame any day. i think people look at the wheel arrangements between the locomotives and thats why they claim one is more powerful than another

  • For the Big Boys they are the longest steam engine built and had a faster top speed than the Alleghenys. Plus they lasted a little longer with 4023 being in service along with Challenger 3985 until 1959.

  • @kmothersil the allegheney had 7498 hp the site you got that number from was wrong but the hp rating on the bigboy is correct

  • @darkhound891

Had a feeling it was low, but it was close by 502 HP though. Thanks for the info.

  • Comment removed

  • @kmothersil I think the Pensylvania RailRoad's Q2 Freight Duplex also make 8000 Horsepower

  • @kmothersil

The Allegheny had 7,000, not 8,000.

  • @STICKGUYMB The Allegheney had 7,498 HP

  • @darkhound891

Oh ok. I just saw 7,000 hp a few times, though.

  • @STICKGUYMB haha but you gotta admit 7,498 HP is pretty impressive from a single

  • @darkhound891

    Hell it is!

  • @STICKGUYMB lol

  • @kmothersil The Alleghenies produce 7498 HP. I heared that on Trains Unlimited. The episode is 'When Giants Roamed'.

  • the only problem with the Allegheny was that the C&O never really had a job that these engines could've worked to their potential on... hauling coal at 25MPH was a waste of performance

  • I agree. They didn't get their full money's worth when they retired them. I don't think the scrap pile paid for them either.

  • the nice thing about the big boys is that they were able to reach their peak performance. UP was smart enough (wow, that's a first) to use the RIGHT engine for the RIGHT job. Fast freight rather that coal drags.

  • yeah thats true. thats whats sad. it would have been nice if the C&O let them Alleghenies worked to their potential on another couple of years. I also love the B&O EM-1 Yellowstones

  • So true,

I would to see the Allegheny go head to head with a big boy, or wish they would have, I'm sure these would have shamed them. and even thought the big boy is impressive, my all time fav is still the beauty of the Allegheny,

even so I popped 350 bucks on the HO scale one when they were coming out.

  • @dking133115 You can't say one locomotive is better than another. The BigBoys and the Alleghanies had to deal with very different conditions. For example, the coal the Bigboys used was of far lower quality than than elsewhere. The working conditions were different as well. You can't just say a locomotive is overrated or better or worse than another.

  • I really enjoyed that! I saw the 2-6-6-6 Alleghany they have at the B&O Museum in Baltimore just today. A shame there are only two of them left.

  • I realize you're probably sick of being asked this but whats to prognosis on this thing? Any progress being made towards a release?

  • n&w hooter doesn't fit the c&o allgheny. the whistles were pneumatic, supplied by the nathan manufacturing co. there was no cord, equaling no tonal variation.

  • this locomotive's sound awesome, good sound!

  • I might just re-install msts just for these beasts you're making.

  • Imagine hearing that whistle in real life :O

  • Did you made this or download this if so tell me were you got it.

  • He made them but I don't know when or if the will be able to download.

  • Awesome what's the name of the route?

  • Info says The Pocahontas Route.

  • awesome, where did u get this train and route

  • How many coal cars were on the train?

  • 66 cars

  • I NEED ONE OF THOSE!!! that is the absolute nicest MSTS steam locomotive i have ever seen or heard! if you ever need a beta tester for it, just ask! i'll be more then happy! if not, then release it! its truely an amazing masterpiece

  • My great Grandfather worked on the C&O and he was able to work on the Allegheny's so chances are he worked on the real life version of that loco.

  • I'm a big fan of articulated steam locomotives. Where do I download the locomotive from?

  • that's cool, it sounds like the Tyrannosaurus Rex from Jurassic Park!

    What's the program?

  • Microsoft Train Simulator

  • man do i gotta get some new locos! i'm im wayyyyyy to tired of the "flying scottsman"!!!

  • I know how you feel

  • How do you turn around like that in the cab?

  • I am not much of a C&O fan but, a B&O fan. I gotta tell you that this is one of my favorite locomotives. This is awesome!! The Allegheny is the most powerful locomotive. Gotta admire the horespower it had. I love the sound of that whistle. Melancholic but, beautiful. Thanks for posting this

  • Gotta love that echo!

  • that's raw power.

  • How'd you get that echo effect? Sounds really good!

  • WOW!

You need to be very proud of the work you did on this H-8 Allegheny.

    Awesome video!

Question: Why B&O Hoppers and not C&O Hoppers?

  • Their all from the same place, sort-a. But eather way, the lines of B&O and C&O are met in ohio, so it doesnt matter:)

  • The B&O and C&O had the same kind of hoppers. I think they called them hoppers fish belly hoppers.

  • thanks for not puttin g in any music

  • Beyond sweet!

  • You are KILLING me. I don't know why you would want to rebuild them because they are already so awesome.

  • Dude that is AWSOME...I do want that loco :)...How soon till shes done???

  • Well......Now that I've seen a msts Alleghany, I want one for my MSTS but can't find it. Where did you get it or if you made it yourself, do you sell it? Please let me know.

  • awesome sounds!!

  • The sound is the best part!

  • Great looking C&O Alleghenie the H-8 is my favorite steam engine been hoping someone would make one for msts keep up the good work and hope to see this one soon

  • Man, cool! C&O Action!

  • I would most defiantly buy these! If you have them for sale on a site let me know. These are excellent models!

  • Not available yet (I have plans to rebuild them), but when they will be made available, they'll be free :)

  • thank you for them going to be free.

    I can't wait!

    hows the work coming?

even if you don't know a release date, how about a work update.

  • Great trains and great whistle. It brings back memories of Class A 1218!

  • How did you get the whistling to be different per blast?

  • The Alleghenies are among the finest locomotives ever built, and your model work is of the same level of quality!

  • Do you have a website we can purchase these locomotives when they are available?

  • What a Horn! That's cool!

That's alot of coal cars. How many coal cars did you have?

    Cool Video.

  • where did you get that locomotive?? SO COOL!!!

  • I made it :)

  • cool

  • Nice, not a real big fan of the C&O Alleghenies though but very nice. We need to keep in contact with these trains of yours for train simulator. My email is traintownofcowee@yahoo.com.

  • 'Tis a fine beauty. I'll take 25 by Wednesday!!
