  • Yep it was done in Nov 2011

  • Hi there bud long time no chat. Street Machine Magazine Australia did a current spread on the Interceptor just recently were you aware of that?

  • @boxy351 Depends on what "recently" means. I know an in depth article was done a few months ago, but I've been way to busy with a film to chase after a copy.

  • I hoped to see how the Big Bird going but like most of us, it seems you have not enough time or the money to go further ATM either, hope 2012 is a good one for ya Mate

  • @RedOct74LH I've been working on a film with Ghost Walk Productions all year. We shot it from March to September when we could. I just got done editing a short mini-version for the Producer, now I will begin editing the full version. You can read more about it at thefarmfilm website. Just add 3w's at the begining of that and a c o m at the end. You can't type URL's here.

  • I hope 2012 goes well for you, I keep saying next year with my lil Escort, but its in the garage finally and I will make some vids along the way, watching your vids has got my brain going. Cheers.

  • @Escorticus LOL, that sounds familiar. It took 2 years for my car to find it's way into the garage. Keep me posted on your project. I am looking forward to your videos.

  • Now searching for part 4 .5 ha, thanks for letting me know, I have subscribed so i'll keep following your progress, I live in England and spent 12 odd years restoring rusty yank cars,we specialised in American restoration, no such word as cant, you're doing a fine job, all the best.

  • @Escorticus Thanks a lot, I appreciate it.

I was shooting a movie this year and I am editing it now, so I haven't done a thing with the car. I expect 2012 to be very different though!

  • Great vids, ended up getting hooked and watched all 6 ha, keep up the good work.

  • @Escorticus Thanks, glad you are enjoying them. There's actually 7 videos. Did you see Part 4 1/2? It's some interesting info about similarities between my car and the movie, as well as an interesting coincidence involving my wife's car.

  • Hi 1001Hobbies, The latest "Street Machine" magazine here in Australia has a great article about the Mad Max interceptors (there was 2 made) all the way from when they were purchased and built up until the Fairmont based one was wreaked and the other one went to Peter Nelsons motor museum in the UK.

Anyhow, If you can't get a copy off the net, let me know and I'll send you a copy.

If nothing else, it will re-ignight your passion for your project!

  • what part Australia did you get the car from.

  • @jonothekind It was bought in Biloela.

  • How much did the car cost you? I'm only 15 but I'm kinda obsessed with Mad Max.

  • @JACKxRAWR If you are obsessed with Mad Max your parents are bringing you up right! LOL! What the car cost me when I bought it in 2003 doesn't matter anymore because you won't be able to buy one in that condition at that price anymore. Check out the aussiecoupes website, dot com, where I bought mine from. He lists price ranges there for the cars. Expect to pay about $20K for one in very good condition.

  • @1001Hobbies Time to cut into my collage fund. Thanks!

  • Hi 1001 hobbies

You’re worried about warping of the panels try looking at SODA BLASTING one of my mates hear in Australia uses soda blasting. look at Imperial Exports & Imperial Blasting Cameron was great help with my coupe and now a really good friend if you need to know anything about the XA XB XC he may just help. He uses soda for all his XA XB XC`s he restors

  • @Damo2282 If I can find a place that does soda nearby I'll go. I am familiar with that. In the meantime, starblast is specially made for just such an occasion.

  • Comment removed

  • its been a year, and you stilll have that ponytail.... i know its nit picky but, its a pony tail.

  • @cphitau12 I haven't done a video in a year, lol! But yeah, still have the ponytail, the wife likes it, sooo.......

  • G'day 1001 hobbies, Yeah a video would be good. I'm just in the process of building and fitting out a new garage so my time and money is slim at the moment. I am also half way through a 347 windsor build for the fairlane, It was originally a 302 but I wanted the extra cubes without sacrificing the original block the car is matched with. Have you heard of a magazine "Australian muscle cars"?. It had a good story all about the original interceptor. Might be worth getting a copy, if you can. Cheers

  • @bolt74 Yeah, I'm going to try to get my hands on that magazine but I have been too busy to pursue it. I am working on a short film. Good luck with the car. I have not been able to work on mine this year because of the film I am working on.

  • Hi There 1001 Hobbies,

Just watched all the video's nice work mate I think your doing fantastic work.

The Interceptor is just a magic looking car so can understand people wanting to build one.

I know of a guy that has 2 XB 2 doors in his wrecking yard so keen to try and get my hands on one. I also like the 1971 Torino's... very cool cars.

Anyway keep up the great work.

    Cheers From

    Boxy in Australia

P.S You sure do have a lot of trains go past in the background lol..

  • @boxy351 Hello Boxy. Good luck getting your hands on a coupe. I know they are very expensive now. Yeah, I realize how many trains there are when I do videos, otherwise I just tune them out and am not really aware of them. They are actually about a mile away. I plan on putting a blooper reel together with that kind of stuff on it, planes too!

  • @1001Hobbies Look forward to the bloopers video. Just curious are you going to run a working blower.

Did you see the write up all about the Mad Max Coupe in Australian Muscle Car Magazine??

    Cheers

    Boxy

  • @boxy351 I think I mention in one of my other videos that the blower will be fake like in the movie. Time and money is the reason. Maybe I'll have bloopers done over winter. I am editing a short film right now.

  • Hello 1001 hobbies,

I am an Australian and my brother and I are mad about old falcons. I have a 71 Aus made fairlane and a XB falcon 4 door GS. If I had more room I would have a coupe. My brother has a 76 XC coupe work in progress. I am a qualified auto mechanic and do all my own work so its good to see someone else having dramas with bolts and so on. It seems some cars are just easy and others fight all the way. If you need help on parts etc I am willing to help. I have some good connections.

  • @bolt74 Hey, thanks for the offer! Yeah, my wife's 66 Mustang faught me every 1/4 inch of the way too! Cool stable of cars you have there. You're going to have to post videos of work on them too.

  • where is part 7 ? i cant wait

  • 1001Hobbies this is Audio I talk to you about a year ago I was the one asking you about that kick ass interceptor shirt you had on. Looks like things are moving along for you on your project im still keeping up with your progress hang in their man you will have it done soon and driving that machine down the road will all be worth it if i get married ill rent it from you for a hour I want to drive away with my bride in it. Keep up the Good Hard Work!

  • @AudioAndroid Hello Audio, I remember you asking about the shirt. I haven't done anything with the car as I am shooting a film and have been busy with that, but I want to get back to work on the car soon. The car may be available for special occasions, but I will be the one doing the driving! ;) My kids won't even get to drive it.

  • S.O.

I was talking of hiring pro not a kid.

  • @bittman2 You can go to a pro shop, but you know the modern business model. It's always a roll of the dice.

  • S.O.

I disagree. Do the entire car.

I think you should have the entire car sandblasted and then you can concentrate on the repair/paint/build of the interceptor.

I'd like to see this finished before either of us is eligible for retirement!

    JB

  • @bittman2 John, my concern is for warping the broad panels. There is no replacing them if anything were to happen to them, and leaving their fate in the hands of someone who may only be getting minimum wage, or can only hold a hose that blows sand, is a gamble I am not willing to take. ;)

  • I cant wait to see more, I have been following this build for some time now.

Just make sure you do it right and we will all have patience.

I would love to have my own interceptor but cant right now.

Until then, keep your eyes on the prize!

  • @firefight77 You and me both! Been shooting a film and haven't had time for the car. I hope to get to work on the cart underneath it soon though.

  • this is great, keep on the good work, greeting from Croatia!

we here are grat fans of the "Mad Max" trilogy!

  • @Addalucija I find Mad Max fans are in just about every part of the world. Thanks for the encouragement. I am working on two short films right now so working on the car is delayed. I plan to put together a video of out-takes from the footage I have shot over the time I've been making videos about this. Those are usually even better than the original videos!

  • No need to explain who John Carey is for most Aussies, unlike other nationalities we have a wonderful understanding of what is happening in the rest of the World, maybe explain to your own conpatriots LOL

  • @hardyboyzrko John Kerry has fans in Oz? LOL.

  • @1001Hobbies OZ is where the Wizard lives mate, we're from AUS

  • @hardyboyzrko I realize that, it's just that a lot of my Aussie friends and Aussies on the Australian Ford Forums message board say and type "Oz." Maybe it's not used by all Aussies?

  • Hey mate, is there a part 7?

  • @webbusinesskit Not yet. I am up to my eyes in a short film (films) I am working on and also had to do some repairs on the daily drivers. I am hoping to fabricate the cart under the car soon.

  • @1001Hobbies Okay no worries. Im an Aussie, and when I saw the car had gone to the US I was a bit saddened. However after watching your videos Im very pleased that the car has gone to someone that is doing a thorough job and paying attention to every detail. I really enjoyed watching your videos mate. Will subscribe!

  • @webbusinesskit Thanks. I have had several Aussies convey the same sentiment. No worries for the car, it has been my dream car since I was 16 (46 now) and it will be done right. It also will never be sold, it will be a family heirloom. I have a number of Aussie friends now and always look forward to meeting more. We hope to travel to Oz in a few years. Hey, with the exchange rate more XA/XB's are going back to Oz from US!

  • @1001Hobbies All good mate. I grew up with these cars as a kid. My family always had them. XA falcons, XB's, we never had an XC falcon, although my Auntie did. Most of them ended up rusting away. Rust was a common problem on those cars here. Especially around the sills and rear windows/boot area. I always remember our XA Fairmont. It was purple with white interior, all factory standard. In its day, was an amazing car. 351 engine If I remember rightly. Our XB fairmont wagon (white) had a 302.

  • have you thought about Soda blasting her, its a lot more kinder to the panels in so far it does'nt cause the heat build up that warps the panels and it washes out of the inclosed areas like the chasis rails ect unlike the sand or nut shells which just stay there

  • @RedOct74LH Yes, I have, but I don't think the place I am taking it to uses that. I'll have to ask them. If not, no biggie. I mostly don't want to have to cart the car too far.

  • What a great project!

  • @philontilt Thanks Phil. I've been up to my eyes working on daily driver cars and my filmmaking endeavors and haven't been able to get anything done. I'll be working on the cart to roll the car around on next!

  • Hey Steve, tried to send you an email, came back undeliverable. Did it change? Steve I,

  • @dianai51 Nope, still the same. I don't know why it would bounce back. Go ahead and try it again. I'll send you a quick one too just to verify the address.

  • Hi there steve i have a rather intresting idea for you iam a big fan of the mad max movies and own all of them but when iam not watchign movies iam a mechanical engineer and i have a few ideas i would like to throw your way reguarding your engine and super charger .People say that the idea of a functioning ondemand super charger canot be done easyly BUT IT CAN send me an email and i would love do it for you

  • @titainiumtitantesla Have you accounted for the compession issue at boosted and unboosted states? Turning the blower on and off has been figured out very reliably, but as for a boosted/non-boosted application and the compression needs of both conditions, in these generations of engines, it's not happening. If you have something that accomodates these issues I would be very interested to read what you have in mind.

  • Steve, I admire your tenacity. I came to Australia from Canada in 1986 also wanting to own a Mad Max style of car. Since then I've owned two Valiant Chargers, XC Falcon Hardtop update, Ford Landau and still have my 1967 Oldsmobile Delta 88.

I spent a lot of time and money on the two Fords which has soured me on the Geelong factory and it's lack of QC back in the 70's(my manager used to work there). Keep going and don't let yourself slow down over time ptherwise you won't finish. Good luck!

  • @arnbo88 Hey, all car manufacturers in the 1970's left a lot to be desired in the QC department. That's ok, from the 60's to the early 70's they designed the best looking cars though!

Hoping to fab up the cart underneath the car soon. I am real busy with filmmaking things right now though.

  • Just a tip If your door hinges are drooping when you open them, swap them from left to right, there interchangeable, So long as it has not been done.

  • @MyAussieDay Hey, thanks for that. I didn't know that. I was planning on looking to see if any of the Mustang or other US Ford hinges would work. It's nice to have a back-up plan.

  • I forgot to say, It looks like you need more storage space in your garage. I had the same problem.I found a bunch of upper kitchen cabinets in the junk and put them up.I was able to walk all the way around my car after filling them up.

  • @budro6968 Yeah, NO room whatsoever. I need to do another thorough straightening up of the place before I get it blasted so that I have room to shoot it with epoxy primer when I get it back.

  • I like the project.. I too am a big fan,and my 3,5, year old girls are mad max fans also.I stumbled onto the scene also. I also would love to have the car too. A couple years back I found a 72 AMX, They think its Max's car.. too funny, they are always climbing all over it. The AMX was rescued from the crusher,Like I needed another car hanging around. Any how,Look forward to more cause I am too busy to do much with my cars, as you know life happens... Bud

  • @budro6968 I love the Javelins/AMX's too. Those of us who own the Aussie Falcon/Fairmont in the US sometimes have our cars mistaken for a Javelin because of the "hips" on the car.

  • just stumbled upon this and watched all your videos tonight and cant wait for the next one to see your progress. I am a huge Mad Max fan and am a bit envious that what your doing is something i wish i could be doing and own my own Interceptor. you seem to really know about cars to be doing this mostly yourself in your garage

  • @vldmaiden Hey, thanks a lot and glad you are enjoying them. Yeah, I've worked on cars all my life, graduated from an auto tech school, did it for a living for a while. I am also a Toolmaker and an artist, so I have a creative urge, especially for things I love like this Interceptor. I built a 1966 Mustang for my wife and customized it as well. I had a video on Youtube about it but it is private while I shoot a short film that will feature her car. ;)

  • Just love to see the car when you get it finished. R.H.D. would really suit me here in Ireland! Best of luck with the big quarter panels!

  • @batmanmot There are a few of these cars in the UK but I don't know about any on Ireland. You could be the first! ;)

  • soda blasting isn't as bad as sand blasting . It really comes down to technique . You can't keep the media in one area too long. You need to take large sweeping arcs across the areas .Everything has it's place . There are areas that chemicals stripping works best and where blasting is better. A good soda blaster can completely strip the entire car a a few hours compared to days of chemical stripping.

  • @XA351GT That IS it in a nutshell, Tom. The place I am dealing with doesn't have soda as far as I know. They are cheap enough and do really good work. I just would rather not take a chance on the broad panels without soda. They use coal dust. Besides, I already have the stripping chemical.

  • sand blasting body panels isent really a great idea due to heat and warpadge sanding or cemical stripp is alot better.

  • @citydriver That's why I am only getting the contoured parts blasted, like the engine compartment, underside, passenger compartment, etc. I state that I will be stripping the broad body panels myself. ;)

  • luv the voice overs, good luck looking forward to more.

  • @muzzleray Thanks a lot!
