Yeah, it's definitely not flares or at least any I've seen. Typically flares all shoot off at once trying to create a brighter heat signature than the plane. The "ir" in flir is for infra red, meaning that's what kind of video we see. (heat=light)
All we know is that it was pretty hot like melting wax or phosphorus from a flare.
There may or may not have been a flame.

i used to live near long beach (carson) and remember one night seeing something very similar to this . it wasnt just me either cos my family saw it as well as there were people standing off to the side of the street looking up and pointing. still dont know what it was we all saw.

Yeah, it's definitely not flares or at least any I've seen. Typically flares all shoot off at once trying to create a brighter heat signature than the plane. This tricks the older gen missiles to lock on to the hotter heat source. They don't pop off one at a time for 3 minutes. I shot off plenty of flares over Iraq. These aren't flares.

No official report. The reporter from KABC Los Angeles interviewed a spokesman from the Long Beach PD but the pilots would not talk to her. I did not see the actual event and I don't know of any witnesses other than the pilots and those of us who have seen the footage.

The more I see obviously weak explanations, the more I think that these "balloon/plastic bag" people are trying to plant disinformation and confusion in the analysis of this video. The source is solid, its not a plane, balloon, meteor, etc. I have read no plausible explanation so... IT IS A UFO. If you disagree, give a reasonable explanation. Scientifically minded people are not fooled by your lame excuses....actually making an effort to "muddy the waters" makes me MORE convinced it real.

As teens, we developed a balloon born system for "distributing" pyrotechnic devices we made ourselves. We launched these at night . We sent up mostly rockets or payloads of M-80 firecrackers. We "generated" a lot of UFO reports this way. We lit up clouds with "internal light" and created "mysterious" aerial explosions. The FLIR (infra red) camera shows what looks to be one of our pranks. I notice that there's no audio - no way to hear what the observing pilot said.
