GS are great dogs, but they are police dogs for a raeson and are not the best dogs for kids or first time owners at all. It is nice to show off the dogs intelligence but we must be realistic. GSD's are not recommended as children's pets but mature peoples. Boxers, labs, retrievers are kids dogs :)
Heh now i know that i passed a long of time on a Forum about dogs and i think i can call myself an expert :P and thanks for replying an 1 year old comment !! :d
According to USA bite laws "When a child less than 4 years old is the victim, the family dog was the attacker half the time (47%), a 2006 study " The resulting risk index showed that German Shepherd Dogs were 5 times more likely to cause bite trauma than pit bulls" They are a working dog and need respect and mature handlers. I would still not recomend them to be around kids alone or first time owners. They are not the 'best' breed for children, tho lovely dogs for a mature handler and family.
ps-I'm not trying to offend you, just merely saying altho that dogs really great- 'best' for children is not true when there are less active dogs without the innate drive to herd/nip that would suite families with babies better than a high maintenance working class dog. I understand you tho..they are good dogs.
Stoic is a beautiful dog! And so big for 6 months old..
How did you train him to stay even when you throw the toy? I got a GSD/mutt puppy from the shelter recently and she is so smart and attentive.. but she's only 3-4 months old and her attention span is too short to "stay" for very long.
I'm trying to teach her fetch too.. she likes it sometimes but other times she'll only fetch the items that she wants to, and gets bored of it easily. Any suggestions of getting her better at fetch or stay?
how in the world that dog did not run when u threw his toy. and only ran when u asked him to?
my gsd in 6 months old, i have heard time to get him stay. he just follows me all the time?
How can i have him stay and not move?

This isn't true. GSD's are excellent with kids. As long as they are welled trained and know their place in the pack.
